The day gecko vivarium is different to other gecko's they require lots of tall stiff leafed plants such as plams, Sansevieria, Orchids, bromeliads, and other tropical plants (from daygecko.com).start with the big ones at the back then the smaller ones at the front and there must be enough soil for them to be planted in. Also some sticks or small logs should be provided for climbing and basking. Coconut hides are also a good idea because they like to hide in them and cork hides are good too it is important to provide plenty of hiding places for day geckos which will help to reduce stress, but they don't do much hiding they mostly stick to walls all day The plants must be sprayed every day and watered once a week, if a plant is dying then remove the dad leaves if it is dead remove the plant. The day gecko will require a UV light to aid in the production of calcium in the bones, also some low lighting such as a red bulb is a good idea. but a hide will be good for it to climb and go under when the light is too bright, also a water dish such as one of the natural rock looking ones are nice. on the floor of the vivarium you will need a layer of pebbles for water drainage under the soil which the plants are planted in that is what comes next the soil you must have enough soil so the plants will fit in and it will cover the roots, then followed by a surface layer of bark. A few logs and sticks are a good idea to have laening on the wlls of the walls of the vivarium of drilled into the sides so they can climb and bask in the UV light on them. A thermometer (below) should also be provided so that you can monitor the temperature in the vivarium. at the very bottom of the vivarium there shhould be a layer of tiny pebbles or stones at about 1/2 inch thick for drainage followed by a 6cm layer of soil, then bark on the top. |
