Roland Callingham, a London accountant, was responsible for the hobby that grew into a tourist attraction.

Since 1929, when it first opened its doors to the public, the village has given many people of all ages the satisfaction in seeing the time capsule of an era, almost a hundred years old. A view of the model village taken in 1998.

There is something for everyone in this growing garden of beauty, 40,000 sq.feet of Bekonscot, with more than 400 plus feet of miniture railway track and a full size signal box to manage the many trains that run to a timetable.

Bonsai trees and real miniture hedges are all to be seen in this well kept garden with bridges crossing rivers, trams of yesteryear in livery of that day going from terminus to terminus, castles, fairgrounds and even a fire service on call and putting the fire out.

The whole village of Bekonscot has given to charity over £3,000,000 and is in the hands of the Church Army, as it has been since 1978.
