P-47D  42-22360  - FARMINGTON,CT, 11/4/1945

The P-47D of the Air National Guard was on a routine training
flight when it went missing and dived into a forest at Farmington,
CT, The pilot unable to bale out died in the crash.

The crash site was visited in September 2007 and although the
trail is fairly well marked and in fact signposted, apart from the
memorial erected by locals, very few pieces of this aircraft remain
to be seen, however some small pieces of once molten and torn
alloy were found along with a few rusty steel parts. Behind the
site we found a large depression and shallow crater plus tiny
fragments of alloy at the foot of two old tall trees.

More research will be done on this accident and findings will be
posted here.

PILOT:  LT  VINCENT HUGH CORE.  USAAC.

THE ROUTE TO THE CRASH SITE & MEMORIAL

The scene of the accident is about a 2 mile walk in the
forest and is well marked by sign posts.
