The Envrionment is our home, it gives us a place to live and a lot of work is put into it to bring out the results that we see around us everyday. So it would seem incredabbly wasteful not to recognise the problems as well as the good things, and then do something, be it big or small to help redeem it to its natural, healthy self.

About 85% of radiation comes from natural sources. Up to 100,000 homes may be affected by radon.

Figure 2: Average annual doses from natural radiation in England and Wales

Radiation is an increasing problem in the uk, for radiation has a number of different sources, all around us. It is a very hard problem to stop.

About 85% of the average individual radiation dose comes from natural sources. Natural radiation consists of three principal components:

  • cosmic radiation

  • radionuclides naturally present in rocks, soils and building materials

  • radon-222 and its 'daughter' radionuclides which emanate as gases from the ground and from building materials
