Eastern 076/01 5 July 2001 TYNE TEES SEARCH FOR MISSING DIVER Tyne Tees Coastguard requested the launch of the Tynemouth lifeboat, scrambled a rescue helicopter from RAF Leconfield, and tasked the South Shields and Tynemouth Volunteer life brigades after a female diver went missing in the North Sea on 4 July 2001. The search was launched after the diving boat ‘Deep Blue’ reported one of its crew missing a mile from the entrance to the River Tyne. Divers on ‘Deep Blue’ contacted the coastguard after the woman got separated from her diving partner and disappeared for half an hour. However, just as coastguard were getting prepared to throw everything at it, she came up." The woman was not injured. Also, Tyne Tees Coastguard received a call from a concerned member of the public claiming that two teenage boys were stranded after being cut off by the tide and in possible danger at North Point, Tynemouth. Cullercoasts Lifeboat and Tynemouth Volunteer Life Brigade were called at 4.50pm, but the two 14-year-olds managed to wade ashore safely without aid. |
