Star Quality

CJ Muere admits to feeling disappointed that he didn’t bag the title of Ultimate Male Survivor (despite ending up with the most number of votes that evening) he knows that there is life after Starstruck. Shows and endorsements have started to pour in. it’s really quite mind-boggling for CJ, who joined – and was eliminated from – the second season of Star Circle Quest before making it to Starstruck. The boy initially thought his earlier failure might affect his chances, so he decided to come out with it during the Starstruck Auditions. “ Ang inisip ko baka hindi ako tanggapin kapag nalaman nila, kaya sinabi ko na agad, ” says CJ, who, it is now clear, simply heeded universal timing in order to reach for the stars. Just imagined he joined SCQ and got knocked out. He joined Stastruck on the very last day of auditions and made it, but was eliminated, then brought back as a wild card entry. In fact, people tried to drive a wedge between CJ and Benj Pacia, who was booted out to make way for his return to the show. But CJ refused to bite. After all, all’s fair in love, war and reality TV. “ Malakas lang talaga ang fighting spirit ko, ” laughs CJ. “ Syempre nakakalungkot din na hindi ako nanalo, pero wala naman akong dapat pagsisihan kasi naging masaya naman ako sa Starstruck. ”

Heard Through the Grapevine

When CJ says, “ malakas ang fighting spirit ko, ” you can take that statement literally. That was evident from CJ’s very first moment of life. When his mother was three months pregnant with him, a robber broke into their house forcing CJ’s mom to make a quick exit through a fire escape. From there, it was a 12-foot drop to the ground. Miraculously, she survived, and so did CJ. Then when CJ was born, doctors gave him 50-50 chances for survival, having been afflicted with problems in his blood sugar and glucose levels. Yes, CJ very nearly didn’t make it, but maybe, just maybe, someone up there was looking out for him, and he managed to pull through. Then when he was 5- years old, CJ suffered an accident that left him with 3rd degree burns all over his body. “ Natapunan ako ng yaya ko ng kumukulong tubig, ” he says. Noting our incredulous look, he continues: “ Totoo! Papaliguan niya dapat ako, so nagpakulo sya ng tubig. Tapos inaakyat na niya yung tubig sa taas, paakyat siya ng hagdanan, nag-trip siya at natapon sa akin yung tubig. ” CJ had to stay in the hospital for almost two months, going through countless skin grafting procedures. But again, he pulled through.

Claim to Fame

CJ had fun during his own run at the eliminations, where he counts that time he had to rap with Andrew E. in the middle of a pizza parlor as one of his most memorable moments. “ First time kong mag-ganon, pero okay lang, kasi dahil sa Starstruck mas lumakas ang loob ko, ” says this would-be star who was busy playing basketball with friends in San Pablo, Laguna, when his sister called him and said she’d read about the Starstruck auditions in the papers. She knew that CJ had always wanted to go into showbusiness, but CJ didn’t warm up to the idea immediately, especially since his SCQ experience was still fresh in his mind. But there’s no escaping from destiny. CJ is obviously a survivor – he hurdled all those crises, didn’t he? And though he didn’t win the title Ultimate Male Survivor, he knows that his time will come. When it does, nothing and no one will stand in his way. Not even his critics (yes, he has them already) who assert that CJ is just an idle RICH KID who joined showbiz for lack of something better to do. CJ a rich kid, with both parents as practicing dentists, the Muere Family’s Unico Hijo is well provided for, but he hopes that people wouldn’t take it against him. “ Masipag lang po kasi magtrabaho ang mga magaling ko. ”
