IMPORTANT NEWS UPDATE

The Dorah Mokoena Charitable Trust is in the process of closing. All its activities and more are being taken over by Children of Fire International.

The charity will still continue to help Dorah Mokoena whom, in October 2001, was admitted to a normal state school in Johannesburg. The path ahead for Dorah remains immensely difficult but the acknowledgement from South Africa's National Department of Education, that she deserved a chance was a significant milestone. Sadly in September 2002 her educational future again seems to be in jeopardy despite the Government's policy of mainstream inclusion for disabled children, and the theoretical acknowledgement that children should be able to remain with their families and attend a school within a few kilometres of their home. The trust is waiting for a response from the Education Minister, Kader Asmal.

The majority of Children of Fire International trustees met in London on 7th September 2002. The trustees are: Robert Orr, Rebecca Wright (secretary), Kathy Brisk (treasurer), Frank Jarvis, Angela Lambert, Bronwen Jones, Peter Owen, Veronica Dyde and Julia Ray. David Birchall was voted on as an additional trustee.

Children of Fire International was registered in the Central Register of Charities (England and Wales) on 8 October 2001 (Registration No. 1088785).

The charitable objects are:

1) The relief of persons in the area of benefit in need of assistance as a result of their having sustained burns before having reached the age of 26 years.

2) To advance the education of such persons with a view to minimising their dependence on others and so that they may achieve their full potential in society.

3) To advance the education and training of children and adults in the area of benefit with a view to reducing injuries and loss of life through burns.

The area of operation is national and overseas.
