I don't have many hobbies really apart from computers and competitions, my interests include Football, Music, Films, Reading, Poetry, Star Trek and keeping Vi happy (it's in my own interest to do that).

Computing
When I was younger my family had an Atari games console, remember playing Pong? When I got married in 1984 my parents bought us an Atari console as a wedding gift (I still have it somewhere). Then back in 1984/85 just after my Dad died my Mother bought an Amstrad CPC 6128, mainly to play games like Scrabble to help her while away the hours. She soon lost interest and I bought it off of her. I threw myself completely into my new hobbie. I used to run a very small Amstrad CPC games fanzine called 'Play Mates', if anybody remembers it let me know via E-Mail. After a few years I bought an Amiga 500, which I used solely for games. I just used the Amstrad CPC for games, DTP and letter writing.

I also later bought the ill-fated Amstrad console (I still have that as well). Then in October 1997, I bought my first P.C., from
Eversham Micros. It's was a Vale Platinum SE 200MMX, 3.2Gb hard drive, ZIP drive, AWE 64 sound card, Matrox Millennium II graphics card, Modem and Iiyama 17'' monitor. I later added another 3.2Gb hard drive (wish it had been a bigger one), extra RAM and changed the graphics card to a 3DFX Banshee. I also bought a Playstation which I didn't use as much as I as I would have liked to, the P.C. (DTP,Games and Web set up) took up all of my spare time.

I sold the Amstrad CPC, I tried to sell the Amiga but with no luck. I have lent it to a neighbour so she could type her letters. I also sold my P.C. And brought a new computer from MESH in June 2000. This P.C. had an AMD Athlon 800Mhz, 40Gb hard drive, ZIP drive, DVD and CD rewriter, Creative SB Live sound card, G Force 2 graphics card and a Mitsubishi 19'' monitor. I have since upgraded the memory, graphics card and have added external hard drives (2 x 100 Gb) and DVD writer.
I used the P.C mainly for games and DTP. I produce a family newsletter (also called Surry with a Fringe on Top) and a joke newsletter for work. Both only small runs, on both sides of a single A4 sheet of paper. They may be small but it's surprising just

On the games front I only really play First Person Shoot-Em Ups (FPS), I'm mad about these type of games, not good at them just mad about them.

Nowadays we have 4 computers. 3 Mesh tower systems and a Compaq laptop. Vi has my old Mesh and the Laptop which she mainly uses for basic games and the Internet. I have the 2 newer more powerful tower systems, one for the DTP and Internet and the other for my FPS games and some Internet, mainly because some games like Half Life 2 you need the Internet to be able to play them at all.

Competitions
I love entering competitions, mainly in magazines and newspapers I read, but enter other competitions if I fancy the prizes. I must say I win my fair share of prizes, all small prizes on the whole. I have won Records, T-shirts, Books, Videos, CD-ROM's, Games for P.C. and Playstation.
