Besides the many sculptures on the street, the longest shopping street in the world, the Little Mermaid etc., there are a whole lot to explore in Copenhagen. If only I had more time... Getting around in Copenhagen is easy. If you only have time for a short city tour, a map of Copenhagen, available free from the Tourist Information centre and many hotels, suffices. Otherwise, a day ticket is all you need for all buses around the city. Almost all buses stop at the bus stations around the Townhall plaza. However, the direction may be confusing. Make sure you board the right bus at the right direction. If in doubt, the bus driver is more than willing to help. Dragor Bus No. 30 This small village is right next to the Copenhagen Airport. Take bus till the last stop, and walk around 1 hour along the quiet seaside to reach a pier for yatchts, and a beach facing Sweden. This is the best place to view the Oresund Bridge, which links Copenhagen with Malmo in the other Scandinavian Country. Netto Badene Canal Tour Boarding Points: Homens Kirke or Nyhavn For a price of Kr.20, this 60-minutes guided boat trip takes you to almost all the tourist spots. The experienced guide introduces all the spots in four languages (English, Danish, German and French). Take the seat at the last row for the best photo taking results. The only downside is that the Little Mermaid faces the land -- which means you will be seeing her back from the boat on the sea. The more well advertised DFDS Canal Tours offers boat trips following the same route but at a higher price. The Carlsberg Visitor's Centre Bus no. 16 Open: Tuesday - Sunday 10am - 4pm This is a bit disappointing as the brewery tour is no longer available. Instead, visitors are greeted with a self-guided tour of the history of the brewery and beer production, with many historic bottles on display, in the museum-like visitor centre. On entering the centre, visitors are given two coupons redeemable at the bar at the exit of the museum. You can choose from a range of Carlsberg beers, or, if you don't drink like me, soft drinks are also available. There is no sign to what I reguard as the symbol of Carlsberg -- the elephant-guarded door. It is located at the Pasterusvej from the Ny Carlsberg Vej. |
