BILLINGHAM EAGLES V BRADFORD BULLDOGS
ENHL NORTH

A short benched Eagles ( U19 away at Kingston ) opened their home game campaign for the season by welcoming Players fans and officials of Bradford Bulldogs. Bradford have spent the last 2 seasons shoreing up the bottom of the League, last season saw a marked improvement in their game, was there going to be another noteable improvement ?

1st Period

The first few minutes of the period confirmed as expected that Bradford would again be on a damage limitation excercise as the Eagles set up base camp in the Bulldogs zone. The deadlock remained unbrocken for forty seconds when Eagles took the lead with a goal from Andy Fletcher assisted by Paul Windridge and Ian Richardson. Under a minute later the Eagles thought it was 2 : 0 when a goal was waved down following a deflection from the net minders helmet. The pressure was turned up but Bradfords netminder Jonney Muff proved worthy at thwarting the Eagles advance !

A 2 minute holding penalty to Bradfords Andy Roberts presented Eagles with a powerplay that allowed Gary Dowd to skate through from the point fake a shot and then deke right pushing the puck home to make it Eagles 2. Eagles picked up a bench penalty for too many men on the ice at 15:48. Ten minutes later saw Eagles get their third when a combination of Windridge, Fletcherand Richardson proved too over powering for the Bulldogs and Paul Windridge got his first of the night. The first closed Eagles 3 : Bradford 0

2nd Period

FlintshireEagles moved up a gear in the second period fireing home seven goals in a ten minute window, goal number four was scored by Brian Perry when he lifted the puck over a sprawled Jonny Muff assists to Windridge and Fletcher. under a minute later the same three Eagles combined with Perry scoring the fifth. Simon Hehir was very unlucky when he pounced on an uncovered puck at the feet of Muff, moments later Hehir applied the finnishing touch to put the Eagles 6 goals up. The seventh was a well taken and low slap shot from the point from Gary Dowd. Number eight came when Ian Richardson hit a one timer to get his name on the score sheet. Another low shot from the centre ice from Martin Lewis made it Eagles 9, the third closed 10 : 0, after Andy Fletcher and Andre Malo found themselves 2 on 1 in a short handed play with Jonny Muff, a colision after the whistle left scorer Andy Fletcher in pain with his lower back.

3rd Period

The action in the third continued in the same light Andy Fletcher hit his hat trick assisted by Paul Windridge and Brian Perry with Bradfords heads down the Eagles powered on to score five goals in a nine minute window. Goal 12 for the EAgles came from Martin Lewis assisted by Simon Hehir. The thirteenth arrived at 53:44 when Liam Thompson scored assisted by Simon Hehir and Martin Lewis, 2 minutes later Paul Windridge hit his second of the night assisted by Andre Malo and Gary Dowd to make it Eagles 14 : Bradford 0. Two minutes from time Brian Perry sealed his hat trick assisted by Ian Richardson, with under a minute on the clock Martin Lewis collected his hat trick assisted by Simon Hehir to close the game Billingham 16 Bradford 0.
