Orion Nebula

The Orion Nebula

Return to Deep-Sky

OBJECT  M42 The Orion Nebula

Located below the three belt stars in Orion, this magnificent nebula is a impressive view on a dark crisp night. With the nebula covering nearly 1deg of the sky it is a wonderful site in binoculars. The trapezium are many hot young stars which fuel the surrounding gas. This group of bright stars can cause many problems to the photographer as they will saturate in the long exposure needed to capture the faint outer details of this nebula. The Orion nebula is one of the most photographed objects in the sky.
