ABRUZZO
Abruzzo is situated on the east side of central Italy and includes both the Adriatic coastline and the Apennine mountain range. Abruzzo is 60% mountainous and 35% hilly. There are three national parks, a regional park and about 30 nature reserves which all together make up a third of Abruzzo's total area and make Abruzzo the greenest region in Europe. The Gran Sasso and Majella are the two highest mountain peaks in the Apennines. Vineyards, olive groves and farms dot the countryside.
You will not find Abruzzo in many tourist guides or travel brochures and remains in general undiscovered by the typical tourist. Herein lies part of its natural charm and beauty. Discovering its extraordinary landscapes, strolling through its historic and ancient villages and towns, the visitor will embrace a region that remains untouched by the modern world. Abruzzo is both splendid and unique.
