BHARATANATYAM
Bharathanatyam, is one of the most ancient dance forms in India, and the whole world. It was developed in Madras more than 2000 years ago. Young female dancers, danced it in temples, in devotion to the Hindu gods.
Most dances are based on stories from Hindu mythology. Instead of words, we tell the stories, by using body movements, and facial expressions. We try to express our devotion, therefore Bharatanatyam is a dance of prayer
These days, Bharatanatyam is taught and performed, all over India, and in many places in the world, mainly in halls, and temples stages.
In some dances, we dance a mythological story (called Nritya) and in others there is only dance (called Nritta). In Nritta the spot-light is on TALA (rhythm) or time measure.
We dance in devotion to Lord Shiva, Vishnu, and Brahma (the three greatest gods).

Shiva, is the god of creation and destroying.

Vishnu, is in charge of protecting and keeping the universe.

Brahma, is the creator of the universe.
An incarnation of Vishnu, is Krishna.

Krishna is very beloved and admired by the Indians, and many stories are told about him.

Ganesha , an elephant like god, is widely worshipped because he is the god of wealth and prosperity, and he is the god of wisdom, and he destroys the obstacles to our success.![]()
