THE SPECIAL SHELTER NOVEMBER 2001 EDITION

Hi Readers!!

The focus of this month's edition is on Shelter. A shelter gives protection to those who dwell in it. I will like to refer readers to a special shelter, The Shelter of the Most High . David, the Psalmist, gave a unique description of this shelter, illustrating the peculiarities and the special advantages of dwelling in it. Readers should go to Psalm 91 and read through. It does not matter if my reader is a Moslem, atheist or animist. It is important to peruse this beautiful poetic and highly descriptive passage from academic and spiritual perspective.

The Psalm shows David as a King versed in the knowledge of the animals around him and it also shows the King as a good geographer. From spiritual perspective, the Psalmist wrote in 2 tones: first as the one being protected and secondly as the person who owns the fotress (shelter). It was obvious that the reliance of David on God was not in doubt. This impeccable trust bestowed on him the special child syndrome. He was right to occupy a special place in the heart of God because of his seeming helplessness 'without God'. He was always superfluous in praising God. Obviously, the Shelter of the Most High has enough shadow to cover him. Now, whatever your religion, who protects you from all hazards and dangers that loom in this perveted world? Our complete reliance on God for protection rather on physical barrier, fences, guns, bows and arrows gives us sense of security - the one that stays with us even when we are asleep. Think about this!!

NIGERIAN NAVY SCHOOLS

I received a mail from Adia Sowho an old student of NNSS. Adia is a co-moderator of NNSS site and has asked me to give a brief on NNSS Ojo and Abeokuta. NNSS Ojo was founded in Jan 1982. NNSS Abeokuta was founded on Mar 91 I have been priviledged to be in both schools at different time. At present I am in Jaji with the first Executive Officer of NNSS Abeokuta Cdr SJ Ajiboye and the Executive Officer that took over from me in 1988 at NNSS Ojo, Cdr E I Ikiere. They are both Directing Staff at Command and Staff College.

The Commandants of NNSS Ojo in series (military) Capt EA Molokwu (then Cdr), Capt J Okitikipi, Capt V Laseinde, Capt E Abegunde, Capt JJ Owonubi, Capt O Olanipekun and the incumbent Capt PC Amaechina, The Executive Officers of that School had been, Lt O Shelle, Lt E Anyadike, Lt SEA Olamilokun, (Acting) Lt PC Amaechina, Lt EI Ikiere, Lt Cdr T Awoniyi, Lt Cdr ROT Obayemi, Lt Cdr DD Nabaida, Cdr DT Hinga, Cdr DI Gom and the incumbent Cdr E Arfo. Some of the Vice Principals which I can recall now were Mrs EA Dina, Mrs Mofunnaya, Mrs Mbelu and the incumbent are Mrs G Onyia (JS) and Mrs Irebisi (SS). The NNSS Ojo used to have a Cadet Corps which I founded in 1986 to inculcate discipline among boys and girls. Some of the old cadets such as Cadet Gagariga are already commissioned officers in the Nigerian Armed Forces. I am particularly conscious of the impression created among students about their XO being a fierce no-nonsense officer who harassed them always.

I am happy that many of the students who passed through the school under various XO agreed that such disciplines, as inculcated then, had helped in shaping them up as adults. My goodwill to all the old students of NNSS Ojo and please visit this site next month for some statements on NNSS Abeokuta. Also, in the January edition I will try to roll out in retrospect what an XO day looked like then.

I am very proud of the products of NNSS Ojo, especially those that I knew personally when I was there as XO. One of them, a promising young lady, Miss Remi Dawodu died some times ago. I discovered this while browsing through the NNSS sites some months back. I recall with nostalgia the End of the Year Activities in the School Auditorium where this young lady then a young girl sang alongside my humble self and some other school mates. I played the piano while they sang Akwai wata Gari (Hausa) and other songs. May her soul rest in peace. This edition of the 'Akintomide On the Web' is dedicated to her.

DATES AND BIRTHDAYS

The month of September is a very important one to me. It is a month before my birthday. Most importantly, on the 20th of this month my wife celebrated her birthday. I join the rest of the family, Harold and Michael, in wishing her long life and prosperity. We thank God for the strength he has given her and pray that she lives to see children children in Jesus Name. We dedicated the Edition of 'Akintomide on the Web' to her.
The month of October is Nigeria's Month. Nigeria clocks 41 on 1 Oct 2001. The month is also my month because I will be celebrating my birthday on the 21st Oct 2001. What else can I say. To God be the Glory great things he has done. Please check the site "Make Nigeria Great" and "Count Your Blessings". These sites reflect my emotions and inspiration for the month of October.
