Hampshire Mineral & Fossil Show Details

The 2011 Show will be held on Saturday 3rd September. Doors open at 10:00 and the Show finishes at 16:30. Admission is only £1 for adults with accompanied children and RockWatch members free.

The Show is in two halls, all on one level, and is suitable for visitors with mobility disabilities. Facilities for the disabled are present in the venue. Refreshments are available throughout the day at reasonable prices. Further details on the Show can be obtained from SMFS using this link.

The layout of the Show has all of the sales and dealers in the Linden Hall and all of the exhibits and displays in the Pine Hall. This allows the exhibitors to be able to spread out gives better access to visitors to view the displayed material.

Mineral & Fossil Show Highlights for 2011

The 2011 Hampshire Mineral & Fossil Show will again be in the ideally suited Lyndhurst Community Centre with over fifty tables of mineral and fossil related displays, for the greater enjoyment of our visitors, and also with many dealers in fine specimens crystals and jewellery amongst others.

  • Among the guest displays for 2011 will be Hampshire Museums Service who will be showing some of the geological collection relating to Hampshire and promoting the Museums Service and their activities. To find out more about the collections visit http://www3.hants.gov.uk/museum/geology.

  • The Dorset Group of the Geologists' Association will be displaying their latest work on geology of Dorset which now world recognised for its importance. To find out more about DGAG visit http://www.dorsetgeologistsassociation.com/.

  • A mineral collector from France will be displaying and selling self collected specimens from Europe and Africa.

  • Paul Lowe will be showing his range of display cabinets with the unique daylight compensated LED lighting system that brings out the true colour of your specimens. For a preview go to http://www.cabinetleds.co.uk/.

  • High quality dealers will have the best specimens from the UK, and the rest of the world.

  • One dealer will be selling meteorites.

  • SMFS will have a display of memorabilia to celebrate the 40th anniversary of the formation of the Society in 1971.

  • The Russell Society (Southern Branch) will be promoting their activities and will be available to identify your mineral specimens.

  • SMFS members will have displays of their personal mineral or fossil collections showing the range and interests of our members.

  • One member will be displaying his collection of dinosaur trade cards from all over the world.

  • Bring along your unknown mineral and fossil specimens for identification by experts who will be present at the Show.

Hampshire Mineral & Fossil Show Location

In the centre of the Lyndhurst, Hampshire, in the New Forest, Lyndhurst Community Centre has good facilities and ample parking. It is easily accessible from Junctions 1, 2 or 3 of the M27 and is on the the A35; follow the signs for the New Forest Visitor Centre that is in the same car park. The lovely town of Lyndhurst is the administrative centre of the New Forest and has many other attractions to make it a great day out for the whole family. Regular Show Features

There are over 40 tables for the sales of minerals, fossils, gems, crystals, second hand, out of print and antiquarian books and maps. There are minerals and fossils from worldwide and British locations at prices to suit all pockets. An ideal way for a beginner to start a collection. There are also cut and polished ornamental pieces and jewellery for sale.

There are 10 tables of displays of minerals, fossils and geology by national institutions and groups, local Societies and individual collectors. All of the people on these stands have considerable knowledge and will be pleased to see your specimens and unknowns - who knows you may have something that is rare.

Throughout the day there will be food, tea, coffee and other refreshments on sale at very reasonable prices.

There is a demand for tables at the Hampshire Mineral & Fossil Show but we do occasionally have vacancies due to a participant not being able to attend. If you would like to be put on the waiting list for a table we would be happy to hear from you. The cost is very reasonable for a single or double 6 ft long table space.

All dealers are in one well lit large hall that is laid out with sufficient space to allow our visitors to browse in comfort. Power is also available for lighting. If you would like to join us let us know using this link.
