Based on historical events that took place in 1912 during Captain Scott's fatal second expedition to the South Pole, ANTARCTICA is the forgotten story of The Northern Party, a scientific expedition made up of 6 men from the larger expeditionary force that left base camp to conduct their studies in another part of the continent.

Facing hurricane-force winds and frightful cold without winter clothing, only seven weeks of rations and six months away from the advent of spring, they face the biggest challenge of all - the fight for survival.

They dig a cave in the snow, kill seals for food, and keep track of the passage of time during one of Antarctica's  worst-ever recorded winters,  unsure that the Terra Nova will come back for them.
They then marched 250 miles over the glacial wilderness back to base camp, surprising those who thought them surely dead.

ANTARCTICA explores the social mechanisms that carried these 6 through their ordeal, a mini-society striving to maintain social order and their sense of humanity while stranded in the wildest extremes of nature and completely cut off from all the touchstones of human civilisation.

Based on a true story, this critically acclaimed new play by David Young was a smash hit in Toronto in 1998 and now receives its UK premiere at the Savoy Theatre.
ANTARCTICA is an inspiring new play, which will take you on a powerful journey to the ultimate destination - the human spirit.
