AFC Wallingford "A"
Ardington & Lockinge / Res - Ardington Rec Grd.
Benson Amateur / Res - Rec Ground, Sunnyside.
The ground is on the village green and surrounded by houses, it is located to the west of the main st.
Blewbury / Res - Rec Ground off A417, Blewbury.
The ground is on the A417, to the west of the village. The set-up is shred with the local cricket club, with the football pitch being on the far side of the complex. The pitch is roped off, their is a clubhouse on site. The far side of the pitch borders on to open land which is the start of the Berkshire Down's.
Botley United - Arnolds Way, off Cumnor Hill (old A420).
(Botley Utd appear to have moved to Oxford Rugby Club, Southern Bypass, Botley - subject to confirmation)
For an ex-Hellenic ground the set-up is very basic. Located next to Matthew Arnold school at the top of a hosuing a estate the ground is nothing more than a playing field with dressing rooms.
Buckland / Res - Off of A420 in village.
The set-up is rather good for the level, the ground cannot now be accessed from the A420 (Oxford to Swindon Road). From Oxford go pass the Buckland turn and look for a gate way on your right, this is the former enterance. Turnnext right and then 1st right, and look for the new drive way. The ground is shred with cricket, the football pavillion is in one corner of the ground, while the Cricket pavillion is on the far side of the ground. The latter is quite near the pitch and would afford cover if required.
Challow Utd / Res - Reynolds Way, East Challow.
The ground has been built into the side of a hill, with the dressing rooms perched high up on a bank. Behind one goal you have a steep grass bank, while one side of the ground has a bank / slope. Fine views west across the Vale of the White Horse are ascertained from the ground. The dressing rooms also have a kitchen area were on my visit a cup of tea was available at half-time.
Childery Utd -
Coleshill United / Res - Bottom of the Hill, Highworth Rd.
Though in the North Berks League, the ground is actually over the border into Wiltshire. The pitch is enclosed by a fence which over the years has been taken over by growth, which gives it the appearance of a hedge. The ground has recently had dugouts added to it..
Dorchester - Drayton Rd.
Dorchester are members of the O.F.A., again this ground is shared with Cricket, the joint pavillion is at an angle behind the top goal, but has a verada so ample cover is available if required. The pavillion also houses a bar. One my last visit there was a cloud burst prior to the game, which would have postponed many games, though Dorcester's pitch appeared to suffer no ill affect from it.
Drayton / Res - Rec Grd, Lockway, off B4017
Drayton's ground is an enclosed playing field, the only facilities on site are a dressing room block and small clubroom. The ground can be seen from the A34 a couple of miles South of the Marcham Interchange.
East Hendred / Res -
East Hendred's ground is a smashing little set-up, a good bar and club behind the goal also provides hard standing and cover. The far end of the ground is very open and a sharp drop is only yards from the touch line. Due to the sharp drop into a small valley the ground has very good drainage.
Faringdon Tn / Res - Tucker Park, off Park Rd.
Ex Hellenic League side Faringdon as the name implies play in a park, though it is not as basic as it sounds. A grass bank runs down one side of the pitch, and in the top corner is a clubhouse with seated overhang. The ground is very differcult to locate, from the main road out of the town to the bypass the enterance is just a small alleyway, opposite the industrial estate.
The best game to visit Tucker Park is for the Faringdon Thursday Memorial Cup final, usually played on the first or second Thursday in May, a large crowd is present and a programme is issued. This season (2000/01) Faringdon are already out of the cup so the home side will not be in the final.
Faringdon Tn "A"
Grove Rangers / Res - Cane Lane or New Relief Rd.
Hagbourne Utd / Res - Rec Grd, New Rd, East Hagbourne
Hanney Utd / Res - Rec Grd, East Hanney
Harwell International / Res - Via Main Gate, off of A4185.
Harwell International "A" - Via Main Gate.
Harwell Village / Res - Westfields, Harwell Village. Lamborun Sports / Res - Bockhampton Rd.
Long Wittenham / Res - East End of Village.
Marcham / Res - Off Morland Rd.
NISMO 23 - Didcot.
Club with strange name who entered the league for the 1999/2000 season playing at the old Didcot Casuals ground.
Northcroft - Newbury.
Ground is at Northcroft Park, pitch two.
Radley - Gooseacre Lane.
Reformed club in Division Three, with Website and Programme. After a number of years out of the league the club have finally sorted out their off the field problems and have rejoined the fold for 2000/01. The ground is at the Abingdon end of the village. Turn left out of the station past the Bowyers Arms and follow the road for 600 yards or so. The ground is behind the village hall. The club have two enclosed the ptich's, the first has a large dressing room complex on the halfway line with cover in front for 100 or so spectators. The second pitch is through a gap in the hedge, this is also fully enclosed and at one stage had a small lean too for cover.
Saxton Rovers / Res - Caldecott Rd, Abingdon.
Saxton have been the top side in the North Berks League for a number of years, their ground can be found in the Saxton housing estate in Abingdon. It is on the opposite side of the river to Abingdon Town's ground. The ground which is little more than a playing field does have a large clubhouse. On my last visit the club also had a teabar at half-time.
Shrivenham / Res - Highworth Rd.
Shrivenham has over the last few years become a very good ground, set in a delightful park just off of the village centre the ground is railed off. A clubhouse behind the goal, as well as dressing rooms, with a overhang. Plans are afoot to improve the clubhouse. I'm sure the club are looking at Hellenic League football in the not to distant future. The club would appear to be issuing programmes this season (2000/01). To find the ground take the Highworth Rd out of the village, you will come across a car park on your left handside. Park in here and cross the road, the enterance to the ground is about 50 yards further down. You walk between some houses before coming into the park, the cricket ground which is next to the football ground is also very pleasent.
Stanford-in-the-Vale / Res - Cottage Rd, off of A417.
Stanford's ground used to have a small stand, though in recent years this has disappeared. On a recent visit I noted that a rail has been added down one side of the pitch. The ground also has a fine clubhouse. Prior to playing in the North Berks League Stanford were members of the Swindon & District League.
Steventon - The Green, Sheepwass, off of B4017.
Steventon's ground though very basic is very pleasant, it is on the village green. The green is has a ditch running down one side and a number of small log bridges have been put across it to acess the main road. The pitch is so near to one local pub that at half-time you can walk to the said pub for a quick drink, you can see the pitch from the bar window, despite the pub being on the other side of the road.
Sutton Courtney / Res - Old Wallingford Rd, off High St.
Sutton's ground is signed off of the main street in the village. The ground has a clubhouse on site. From the ground you have a close mup view of the cooling towers at Didcot Power Station.
Uffington Utd - Fawler Rd.
Uffington have floodlights, a railed off pitch, a stand and a clubhouse. Though you do not get many games under lights, I saw a game their many years ago, though it was only a Rep game. The club also us a second pitch which is in the same complex but quite a distance from the main pitch.
Warborough & Shillingford / Res - Warborough Village Green.
The club play on the village in Warborough, I have yet to see a game their, on all my visits the game has always been postponed. The area is shared with cricket so usage is limited.
Wootton & Dry Sandford Utd - Wootton Community Centre, on B4017.
EX NORTH BERKS CLUBS -
Great Shefford.
The club moved grounds in the early 90's, both of the grounds had cover and a clubroom. The latter ground had banking down one side with a stand in front of it. On my visit a tea bar was in operation. The club no longer play Saturday football and would appear to have gone to a Sunday side in the Newbury Sunday League ?.
