"Emmerdale Farm" made its television debut on ITV
at 1.30 pm on Monday 16 October 1972 and was
screened twice a week on Mondays and Tuesdays.
This is the press release issued by 'Yorkshire TV'
to announce their new drama:
"In the main they are a farming folk with straightforward
human emotions, those of sorrow, anger, happiness and
love. People who live in towns and cities, housewives
home in the afternoons or shift workers from smoking
industrial plants will be given an insight into this enduring
way of life. As people who live it daily - from milking at
6.00 am to 10.00 pm telly and cocoa - know, country life
is not all roses round the lawn and wisteria over the door.
Calving and lambing time can be as exhilarating or as
depressing as a trip to the discotheque or wandering
lonely through the rain-drenched city streets."
