Season 2
Season Premiere: "The Kiss"
Dawson and Joey re-characterise their relationship when Joey decides to pass on the opportunity of going to France. Jen is forced to accept the fact that Dawson is with Joey and Pacey meets new-girl Andie (Meredith Monroe) while masquerading as a police officer. She sets him up on a dream date with a senior cheerleader which goes horribly wrong when Pacey finds out he only got the date because Andie said he had a heart condition. Mitch and Gail continue to work on their floundering marriage.
"Crossroads"
Everyone, including Dawson, forgets about Pacey's 16th birthday, which causes Pacey to question Capeside's opinion of him. Things are going well with Joey and Dawson until Dawson reads her diary and discovers her true feeling about his movie. Jen finds an unlikely friend in Abby. Joey hires new-boy Jack (Kerr Smith) to work at the Icehouse. Mitch and Gail consider an open marriage.
"Alternative Lifestyles"
Everyone is paired up in the most unlikely couples for an economics project on marriage. Dawson and Jen are put together and so are Pacey and Andie leaving Joey as the odd women out. Dawson's parents decide on an open marriage. Jen gets hot and heavy in a study session with Dawson in an attempt to seduce him . Tamara Jacobs makes a re-entrance at the very end.
"Tamara's Return"
Pacey ex-girlfriend and ex-teacher is back in town setting Capeside inhabitants gossiping and Pacey shocked. Mitch is considering buying a warehouse from her to open a restaurant in.
Andie confides her feelings for Pacey in Dawson and asks if there's any hope he may return those feelings. Joey discovers art and the distance between her and Dawson widens as she becomes even closer to Jack. Abby and Jen set off after dockworker Vincent. Joey explains she needs something that makes her more independent from Dawson. Pacey discovers Andie's feelings for him.
"Full Moon Rising"
There's a full moon in Capeside messing with everyone's feelings. Jen and Vincent get busy getting to know each other a little better ( you know what I mean!) and Mitch and Gail are still arguing about there marriage. Pacey and Andie go on their first date and Pacey ends up discovering the truth about her unstable life. Dawson realises something strange is going on with his parents and confronts them about their open marriage. Joey receives an unexpected kiss from Jack and Mitch and Gail decide on a divorce.
Homecoming Dance
Andie lures everyone to the homecoming dance by describing dancing as "foreplay". Jack and Jen get set up by Andie to keep each other company. Dawson parents break the news of their divorce to Dawson that leaves Dawson heart-broken and confused. Everything goes fine at the dance until Andie decides she doesn't want to dance with her brother all night. Dawson finds out about Jack and Joey's romantic encounter. Jack ends up with a black eye and split lip curtesy of a very angry Dawson and the evening falls apart. Half the group is in tears, a ladder is left lying on the ground and Dawson and Joey's fleeting relationship is over. The evening is reconciled when Pacey and Andie share a kiss in the moonlight. Awww.
"The All-Nighter"
Dawson is faced with a Joey-less movie night but struggles through not wanting to break tradition. It's time for the huge English test and Mr Peterson cancels his study session with a very rude note leaving everyone at Chris Wolfe's semi-mansion. Not a lot of studying gets done in the beginning as the group takes a purity test. Andie finds out about Pacey's relationship with Ms. Jacobs. Joey says she fallen in love twice and Dawson freaks out attacking Chris's younger sister about the trials and tribulations of being a teenager. Jen gets lucky with Chris in the upstairs bedroom and all of a sudden it's 3 hours to the test and no one's done any studying. Trust Pacey to save the day with his professional cramming skills but the evil Mr. Peterson has cancelled on them! All is resolved with the famous nap-on-the-football-field thing.
The Reluctant Hero
Under Abby's influence Jen starts slipping back to her old New York ways. Dawson's movie wins first prize in the Boston Film Festival's junior division. Andie helps Pacey get his academic career back on track after the guidance counsellor informs him that he'll probably be flipping burgers for the rest of his life if he doesn't get his grade point average up. Quickly. Joey agrees to go on a date with Jack. Jen convinces Dawson to attend a party with her and he saves her from a drunken menage-a-toi incident, she's not the willing damsel-in-distress though and yells at Dawson about his middle-aged ways. Pacey helps out Andie and Jen gives Dawson some script advice. One word: SEX!
The Election
It's school election time and Andie decides to run so as not to ruin her perfect extra-curricular record, she manages to convince a reluctant Joey to run with her. Their opponents turn out to be Chris and Abby. Jen tells Dawson his script wasn't "raw and dark" causing him to regress into his teen years. Abby airs Andie's dirty laundry in public and Pacey is forced to step in.
High Risk Behaviour
Joey's enjoying her art classes until Jack spills coffee on her naked-man picture. In an attempt at reconciliation Jack possess naked for Joey. Both confess their thoughts and fears on sex and end up rolling about on the couch by the end of the evening. But did they do it? Andie and Pacey discuss sex and Andie tells Pacey her fantasy first time. He does everything to set it up, but did they or didn't they? Movie auditions are held for Dawson's new movie, a love story and Jen becomes producer-helping Dawson pick cast members. The credits roll after we witness Dawson climbing through Jen's window and getting (let's say) busy. But did they close the deal?
Sex, She Wrote
Abby finds a note that leads to a fully-fledged investigation as to who had sex the previous night. She has the note, the clues and the suspects. But who was it? A revealing episode for all as Abby works her evil magic. By the end of it Jack's in trouble with Dawson and Dawson and Jen are in trouble with Joey and Pacey's in trouble with Andie. Conflict!!
Uncharted Waters
Us viewers meet (and hate) Pacey's father as the boys set off in a father/son boating trip. Dawson and Mitch come along with surprise guest, Jack. This causes tension and ends disastrously with Pacey in tears on the beach. Meanwhile, there's a girl's night going down at Dawson's house as Gail tries to get a news story together about the consumer market known as teenage girls. Everything would have gone fine... if she hadn't invited Jen, Joey, Andie and Abby.
His Leading Lady
Joey discovers Dawson's movie mirrors their on-off relationship and when she confronts him, he denies it. Andie and Pacey struggle on with their relationship and all is OK in the end. Jen meets a certain Ty Hicks who takes her to a very interesting 'party'.
To Be or Not to Be..
The mean and evil Mr. Peterson forces Jack to read his poem aloud in class. The problem is, the poem was about a guy. Capeside is convinced Jack is gay makes him suffer for it. He tells Joey he's not gay but is he telling the truth? Pacey defends Jack and ends up in an argument with Mr. Peterson, enter the famous "spitting in the face of the entire educational system" bit. He has to apologise to Mr. Peterson or face suspension and he gets no thankyous from a very ungrateful Jack. He does not apologise and faces a suspension head-on which disappoints Andie.
That is the Question
Andie and Jack's father returns bringing trouble and turmoil with him. Andie relies on Pacey to change her feelings towards Jack's possible homosexuality. And Joey starts to get a little worried that the rumours are true. This is the big outing episode and features Jack screaming "I'm gay!" to his bigamist father through a stream of tears. Joey is confused and upset but copes better than Mr. McPhee who leaves...again.
Be Careful What You Wish For
It's Dawson's big 16th birthday and Joey plans a huge surprise party. Things don't turn out exactly as expected when Dawson takes off for a "wild night of letting loose". Cue blues music as Andie and Dawson getting drunk and take centre stage for a wild performance while Pacey tries in vain to get them home sober. Jack ends up in bed with Abby and Dawson ruins his cake.
Psychic Friends
It's winter again and time for the annual Capeside Winter Fair. A fortuneteller causes all sorts of problems when she tells Joey she's going to meet a "tall, dark stranger". When Joey does Jack convinces her to go for it and so she ends up on a photo session with the mystery man only to hear him ask, "is your friend Jack seeing anyone?". Joey and Jack decide to work on their Gay-dar while Mitch's new girlfriend insults Dawson's movie. Andie doesn't hear what she had hoped to hear from the fortuneteller and it's left to Pacey to pick up the pieces. Joey gets a surprise visitor.
A Perfect Wedding
Joey is upset when her paroled father is going to make his reintroduction into Capeside society by catering an up market wedding. Dawson and his mom plot ways to get Mitch back but his new girlfriend stands in the way. Dawson and Joey share a kiss and Pacey tries to put a chink in Andie's armour of cynicism. Jen and Abby decide to crash the party for a little excitement but tragedy strikes at the end as a drunken Abby falls to her death after too much Champagne.
Rest in Peace
Abby's sudden death sends Jen into confusion as to why everyone is mourning when Abby was such a bitch. She's drunk for most of the episode and convinces Andie that the death was her fault. Even in her death Abby is exposing hypocrisy in the fragile Capeside framework. Jen's grandmother is so upset by Jen's eulogy that she throws Jen out forcing her to move in with the two remaining Leery's. Meanwhile, Gail is offered a job in Philadelphia that could take her away from Capeside.
Reunited
Dawson attempts to restore some spontaneity into his relationship with Joey but it all goes wrong when he ends up at a restaurant with Mitch, the girlfriend who dissed his movie, Gail and Jen. It looks good for Gail and Mitch thanks to Joey and Jen's scheming but it's never perfect for long and any hopes of reconciliation are soon shattered. Andie finally looses it and starts seeing her dead brother, Tim. She spends most of the episode in the bathroom but Pacey and Jack manage to convince her to choose them over Tim. Pacey and Jack struggle with her deteriorated condition and are not sure what to do. Jack phones someone he shouldn't in an attempt to help.
Ch..Ch..Changes
Dawson needs a proper interview subject for his film class final, but no one will do it. Joey tries to make him turn the camera on himself for a change but instead of doing this and confronting his fears he dredges up Joey's painful past by interviewing her father. Meanwhile, Mr. McPhee comes back and Pacey is left fighting for Andie to stay in Capeside as he threatens to take her away for better care. Nothing can be said to change his mind and he even threatens to pack Jack off to some sort of homosexual re-hab camp but leaves Jack where he is for the remainder of the semester. He does however take Andie away leaving a distraught Jack and heart-broken Pacey.
Parental Discretion Advised (Finale)
Dawson accidentally stumbles on Mr. Potter drug dealing and wrestles with whether to confront Joey about it, along with this burden he discovers that his own family life is about to change drastically. Gail accepts the job in Philly despite a last-minute reconciliation plea from Mitch. Pacey's dad sets up a surveillance operation on Mr. Potter he tries to make Pacey stop hanging around with Joey but is interrupted when the Icehouse is firebombed leaving Mr. Potter trying to dump his coke down the toilet while the fire blazes around him. Everyone gets out safely although it is a close call for Jen after she decides her life isn't worth living. Dawson is the hero of the day though as he saves Mr. Potter. This fame is short lived as his parents convince him to tell Joey the truth, he does and she goes to the police but she blames him for screwing up her new-found happiness. Mr. Witter receives a punch in the face from Pacey when he insults Andie but eventually the two find peace when Mr. Witter admits to being a lousy father, to Pacey's surprise. Jen tries to make peace with her parents but they won't have her back so she tries to leave but is stopped by Jack who convinces her to come stay with him for a while. The arrangement is short-lived though when Jen goes to apologise, under Jack's advice,
to her grandmother she tells her grandmother she'll come back under three conditions- one of which being that Jack comes too. Joey wears a bug for the police to expose her father but leaves Dawson alone as she tells him she can never forgive him for what he did.
