THE CONTENDERS

Above is a picture of the legendary ironclad Huascar, probably taken in the late 1870´s. Below, an 1876 photography of HMS Shah in Portsmouth, United Kingdom. Named after the King of Persia, Nasir ud-Din, the Shah was at that time the Royal Navy’s largest and fastest cruiser. At Pacocha she became the last wooden British ship to engage an ironclad in combat.
