This vivacious and vulnerable young actress rose quickly from the world of horror sequels and teen-oriented genre fare to a featured role in Sam Shepard's FAR NORTH (1988). Arquette is a member of a family where acting comes naturally. Her grandfather was humorist Cliff Arquette best known for his comic persona, "Charley Weaver." Patricia's father, Lewis, her sister, Rosanna, and brothers Alexis and David are also performers.
Arquette has worked steadily since the late 1980s, alternating between films and TV. Her TV work includes guest shots on "thirtysomething" and "The Outsiders," and starring roles in two projects directed by Diane Keaton: a "CBS Schoolbreak Special" entitled THE BOY WITH THE CRAZY BROTHER (1990) and WILDFLOWER, a 1991 Lifetime TV-movie.
Arquette caught the attention of the critics with her performance in ETHAN FROME as the life force in an otherwise bleak and wintry story. She followed up with TRUE ROMANCE (both 1993), a Quentin Tarantino scripted road movie in which Arquette more than held her own opposite scene-stealers Gary Oldman, Christopher Walken and Dennis Hopper. Arquette played the wife of the title character in Tim Burton's biopic ED WOOD (1994). Portraying a young American doctor caught in the political turmoil of Burma, Arquette delivered a compelling performance in John Boorman's BEYOND RANGOON (1995). She is married to actor Nicolas Cage.
