Malta consists of three islands, Malta itself, Gozo to the west and the scarcely populated Comino in between. Sixty miles south of Sicily, the islands are small with a total area of around 120 square miles. For an island of such diminuitive size it has a fascinating history and this combined with the classic mediterranean climate brings many visitors to its shores. From November through Feb Malta will experience a mild and fairly wet winter, the coldest month being January. From then on things just get hotter peaking in August which can easily reach over 90 degrees F, baking the roads and sand underfoot. The weather is at its hottest during periods of winds from Africa called the Sirocco. Sea temperatures allow comfortable swimming from May through to October, although the sea can be rough around Malta due to its isolated position. Remember this when you go on that round island cruise ! The Holiday Weather guide recommends April,May,June,July, September or October as the ideal months to visit Malta. Oh and a word of warning about the Maltese, when asked if they drive on the left or right don't be suprised if they reply "in the shade" !
