How to use this table

The coastal resorts of Cyprus experience hot and virtually rainless summers from May through September with almost unbroken sunshine - perfect for the beach but the summer months will be too hot for some people and certainly uncomfortable for much in the way of physical activity. Relief from the heat can be obtained in the summer by going into Cyprus's mountains, some of which rise over 5000 feet. Here, amid the lush pine forests, the climate is cooler and wetter, and where there is plenty of snow in the winter. At least the sea has a cooling effect on the temperatures in summer at the coast. See the entry for Nicosia to see how much hotter it gets inland! Why is Cyprus hotter in summer than other Mediterranean islands? Basically it is because of its proximity to the Southwest Asian landmass.

For the beach, the alternative to the summer is the spring and autumn months of April, May, October and November. In these months there is more of a chance of rain but the usual pattern is one long, fine, settled spells interspersed with several days of unsettled weather. Of these months April and November are the riskiest for a beach holiday - some days will be too cool for sunbathing and November is sees rain on average 1 day in 4

Winters are generally mild with relatively high temperatures even in midwinter getting into the 60s Farenheit, but with spells of unsettled weather which bring quite a lot of rain.If you don't mind that, then its usually plenty warm enough for outdoor activities through the winter.

Perhaps the most ideal to time to visit the beaches of Cyprus are late Spring to early Summer, and Autumn which have the benefits of plenty of sunshine, dryness and warmth, without the stifling heat of midsummer.
