Morfil – St John Baptist

The rectory at Morvil was appendant to the manor of Maenclochog, the patrons in 1594 being ------Longville and James Lewis.—Owen’s Pem

In 1291 this church, described as Ecclesia de Morvin, was assessed at £4 6s 8d for tenths to the King.—Taxatio.

Morbylle.—Ecclesia ibidem ex presentacione domini de Ferrers unde Johannes Nicoll est rector valet communibus annis 40s. Inde decima 4s.—Valor Eccl.

Under the heading ‘Living Discharged’ :--Morvill R. (St John Baptist). Dom de Ferrers olim Patr.; Sir John Philips, Bart., 1715, 1730, 1745; Lord Milford, 1781. Clear yearly value, £8 10s 0d. King’s Books, £2.—Bacon’s Liber Regis.

On 18 Nov 1903, a faculty was obtained for the restoration of a cottage.

In a list of pilgrimage chapels, most of which, it is stated, were in ruins, occurs the name of ‘Capel Burnagh in Morvill.’—Owen’s Pem., Vol. I., p. 509.
