GAZ Gallery

Welcome to the GAZ Gallery - a incomplete collection of photographs drawn from all over the place, showing examples of weird and one-off vehicles produced since the founding of GAZ in 1932 with obsolete tooling from Ford of America. Unsurprisingly, the first product - the GAZ-A - was a 1931 Model 'A' Ford in all but name but was sufficient to get the factory up and running. It was a short step from that to designing and producing their own vehicles; some of the prototypes and flights-of-fancy are shown here. As and when more pictures become available I shall add them to this page. I hope that the copyright-holders whose permission I have been unable to secure will forgive the inclusion of their pictures as it is done for the greater glory of GAZ rather than commercial gain on my part!

Additional pictures and/or technical information are always welcome, so if you'd like to contribute please e-mail me:

The GL-1 Racer of 1936. Whether it actually raced and if so, with what success are presently unknown to me. If you happen to know, please allow me to update this entry with the information and we'll share it with the World!

These 3 pictures show the "Pobeda Sport" - the aerodynamic(!) version of the GAZ-20 "Pobeda", which unwittingly pioneered the use of "crumple-zones". Far from being a "One-off", the photos reveal that at least three Coupes and one Roadster were built. The handling must have been, um, interesting - but what a gloriously mad shape! I should like very much to know the total number produced (and where/how I can get my hands on one)...

The 1954 GAZ Turbo car, proving that hot-rodding respects no ideological boundaries. It wears No.4 but I doubt whether that many were built...or do you know otherwise?
