Sheffopener
Sheffield, 19th April, 2 Litre Bangers
17 cars in the pits for Sheffields
first domestic 2 Litre session of the season, 450 Glyn Platts returned
182 Goobers Mk1 Capri from Civil War while 94 Andy Hields had a late
shape Sunny with the rest made up of Bluebirds and Cavaliers.
All out for the opener which started
with a bang when 46 Sean Green spun 147 Grumpy round on the Tavern turn
sending the latter into a big roll before 451 Willy Blackwell followed
in 142 Chris Coyne hard into a post on the road bend snapping the
latters Donald as 111 Chris Ellis collected the dead Green Cavalier
before Blackwell piled 999 Scott Hill into Grumpys motor head on before
having him out only for the Demon to succesfully back the TSB man in.
45 Phil Clare took the win from Hill and Blackwell.
Ellis had 98 Mucka out early doors in
heat 2 with 412 Roger Gay putting himself in hard when taking avoiding
action. Blackwell then steamed 44 Darren Innocent as 205 Alan Gamble
took 51 Simon Hields in and Ellis put himself in after spinning Gamble.
Blackwell took Hill round as Clare took the win from 777 Jordan Gay and
Blackwell with 51 running the former in on the run down.
The Banger final into DD saw 141
Chris Fishwell pick up and follow in Ellis well as 94 Hields put
himself in and the lively Fishwell weighed into Blackwell before 51
Hields took to the centre to do Fishwell and then again DSU. Clare then
buried 60 Shane Stevenson into Ellis as the always entertaining Hill
pulled off a cracking follow in on Jordan Gay on turn 1 as Platts went
on oppo to take out Clare with a stiff t-bone, Blackwell also weighing
into Clare. Gamble taking the win and t-boning the latter in
celebration as Mucka and Hill engaged in a stonking head on on the home
straight from which neither back off.
Quick mention for the 9 Robins in
attendance, 366 Gary Barker was the first to go over in the first heat
before 46 Sean Green and 456 Deadly went over to together in a
spectacular roll, the flying 143 Screamer then rolling long time leader
601 Usha and also putting himself over allowing 251 Shafter through to
win.
Heat 2 saw Deadly roll Barker before
the greens even came out, 123 Waddy putting Green into a double roll as
3 clipped Usha to send him into a massive roll. 350 Danno out in the
143 robin blasted the reversing Deadly to roll himself as 31 Lee Curtis
spun Deadly into a doube roll on the back straight. Shafter winning
again.
The final saw Green roll unaided on
the back straight before 3 was launched into a massive roll in front of
the Tavern, Deadly then steaming Usha with Danno also doing the
Incarace visitor to go over again. The yellows came out for 3 but it
didn't stop Curtis doing Usha with Deadly firing into the back of the
latter. Danno now pushed Shafter the wrong way round into a big head on
with Waddy, Danno doing the latter over the front wheel with 3 giving
Waddy a stonking length of the straight shot. The latter still kept
going to repay his assailant & Danno and took the win as last car
running.
A good nights entertainment with the
Bangers producing some decent action here and there and the usual
comedy value from the Robins. Lets hope the drivers support the venue
as it would be a crying shame to lose such a superb stadium and it
would be good to have regular meetings and a good local driver base, I
think Startrax deserve this in reward for the work they have put in to
keep Stock Cars and Bangers at the venue. The next meeting there is the
Unlimited Banger Battle of Britain and with a few top teams now
confirmed Im sure its going to be another top quality event.
