cars turned out for this year’s Cracker with visitors in attendance from
all over the UK & Europe as is the norm. We enclose a full material
list for your delectation but breaking it down there were 48 XJs including
a series one for Belgian 665 Brutus, 31 Yanks ranging from 152 Rob Broughton’s
diminutive Chevy Celebrity to the huge Millennium edition Lincoln Town
Car limo of 117 Ribbs & an amazing 13 P5 Rovers of which all but two
were fresh. Additionally there were 11 DS420s of which just 4 were hearses,
9 Mk2 Granada limos & 6 Mercs including a rated bubble 180 from Mobster
300 Paul Stern. The Rover P4 raised 4 as did the Rolls Royce marque &
this included a Silver Spirit from 135 Clayton Meffen which was the first
one ever as far as we are aware. There were 3 Super Snipes including 755
Paranoid’s epic hearse with the Mk2 Granada hearse, FX4 taxi, Austin 3
Litre & Mk10 Jag each 2 strong. Other vintage included a PC Cresta,
A110 Westy, Wolzy 6/90 & Daimler 250 with star cars from 924 Matt Millen
with a Bentley S1, 661 Singy with a DK400 limo & 604 Mr Happy with
an A135 Princess ambulance. Completing the line-up were 8 Voles which continue
to be allowed despite the fact that you can race them at any national spec
meeting at Arena while the big Japs (which you can’t use normally) remain
on the ban list. Baffling. Mr Happy annexed the smart car award for the
second year running from Singy & Brutus.
The
opening event was a non-contact Cadillac v Rolls Royce race for the benefit
of the press which included Ribbs’ Lincoln! Despite the ruling 496 Glenn
Alexander (Fleetwood) & Meffen managed to put themselves up the blocks
as 754 Furry Dave won in his Silver Shadow from the similarly mounted 741
Dan Steele & 639 Peanut’s Seville.
Result:
Furry Dave, Steele, Peanut, 744 Mickey Dent, 921 Nutty Nige, Alexander,
885
Mr Cumshot, Ribbs
The opening race proper saw just 22 cars on the grid, the numbers down as a result of the 46 drivers who failed to honour their booking. 66 Steve Lee (P5) met 692 Cliff Harvey’s Mk2 limo on the nose early doors as 644 the Wheezel (DS420 limo) ran in the similarly mounted 35 Keith Perren before 757 Johan van Rysselberghe (Coronet) & 795 Havoc (XJ) piled into the ensuing melee. 975 Jan Merkx (XJ) went off the head driving against the flow on the back straight & meeting 338 Lee Claydon’s cab on the nose which decimated the latter despite only ripping a wheel off the Jaguar. The Wheezel gave Harvey a storming T-bone on oppo which earnt him the best hit award while 106 Clyde Williams (Fury) attacked van Rysselberghe & then fired up the back of 733 Mad Mouse’s Caprice Estate which surprisingly killed the Plymouth. 812 Mr Turbo in his favoured Vole 240 Estate put 2 Billy Lee’s P5 away & then steamed him for good measure as 442 Malc Fuller won in an immaculate XJ40 from welcome returnee 158 Shane Davies (Mk2 limo) & the Vole 740 Estate of 7 Bertie.
Result: Fuller, Davies, Bertie, Turbo, 398 Andy Chapman, Billy Lee N/O/F
21 for the second heat with 946 Mark Johns (XJ) putting 577 Mick Thornhill’s P4 & himself in as Brutus attacked 905 Randy Andy’s Merc with similar consequences. Ribbs did 69 Terry Watkinson’s Cresta & 841 Ricky Williams (XJ40) walled Brutus before 102 Mark Deacon in the Apollo buried the big Lincoln setting it up for the bone from a recovered Brutus & then 880 Chancey (XJ). However the latter was promptly wasted by 651 Justin Woolner’s DS420 limo as 287 Yo Yo (P5) went in on the stranded Ribbs who hit back with a big head-on which earnt him the award for this race, Steele the recipient. 348 Mushy (XJ) won from Williams & 20 Dave Palmer who was also XJ mounted.
Result: Mushy, Williams, Palmer, 847 Ginger, 500 Billy Wenham, Johns, 290 Tramp, Steele N/O/F
Up to 26 for heat 3 with Leveller 800 Dog End Dan (XJ) following 959 Aaron Keoghan’s Mk2 hearse in from the off which allowed 858 Mark Trowbridge (DS420 limo) to finish it only to take a package from 345 Chewy’s P5 in turn. This triggered a pile-up on the top bend as 322 Rolly (Caprice) attacked 560 Action Man (XJ) & the impressive Dog End Dan buried 991 Paul Pentecost (XJ) into 630 Mr Pino’s Cutlass. 850 Odd Job (XJ) hit the similarly mounted 208 Jimmy Randall & 455 Frankie (Mk10) blasted 312 Rattie in the 6/90 only to feel the force of 532 Paul Lawes’ immaculate XJ40. Undaunted he continued with a shot on 911 Graeme Shilling’s Merc as 652 Ace Ash in a Cutlass gave Trowbridge a fierce T-bone. 779 Gizmo (XJ40) thundered into the pile-up on the top bend which blocked it completely & Lawes latched onto Action Man taking them both in only for the former to feel the force of 883 Emmo’s P5. Action Man bounced back & tried to win it the hard way doing Randall & 669 Mad Frankie’s Mercury against the flow before stopping leader 761 James Perry (XJ40) with a head-on but the Welshman held on to win with 128 Joe Warner (Austin 3 Litre) second. Action Man was given third but more importantly he picked up the best hit award & a round of applause from the crowd after a truly superb performance.
Result: Perry, Warner, Action Man, Randall N/O/F
Heat 4 was 30 strong & began with a bang as 129 Simon Warner in the Westy ran 674 Giggler’s DS420 hearse straight in while Mr Cumshot (Fleetwood limo) enjoyed a head-on with 297 Paul Chapman’s Cutlass Estate. 828 Ozzie (Vole Estate) went in on 922 Mark Saunders (Regency) similarly as Nutty Nige (Coupe De Ville) attacked Mr Cumshot & Warner met 660 John Byng (XJ) on the nose. 203 Gnasher (98 Coupe) treated Warner to a head-on in turn as 808 Diekie (Regency) hit Nutty Nige & paid for it with a package from 964 Sean Winchester (XJ). 611 White Boy (XJ) rolled the Super Snipe of 23 Roughneck impressively on the pit bend as Nutty Nige finished Warner & Winchester T-boned 356 Luke Radley’s Lincoln limo. Nutty Nige now enjoyed a big head-on with White Boy on the top bend as 753 Billy Cunningham (Lincoln limo) went the wrong way to T-bone Radley, a hit which was avenged a couple of moments later as Winchester buried 19 Mr Plastengrave’s P5 heavily into Mr Cumshot after the local man had attacked Gnasher. 175 Tomo won in an XJ with 764 Spally’s P5 second & Gnasher third, Winchester burying Spally on the run-down lap to vindicate his claim for the best hit award.
Result: Tomo, Spally, Gnasher, Winchester N/O/F
Another 30 for the penultimate heat with 146 Al Trickett’s gorgeous Tempest running Mr Happy in straight away which tore the passenger side out of the frail ambulance. 710 Mad Dog (XJ) then ran Singy into the back of Trickett pushing him further into Mr Happy as 787 Elliott Finnie (DS420 limo) enjoyed a head-on with 277 Booty whose P5 did this meeting last year. 993 Kelvin Wyatt (DS420 hearse) attacked 471 Terry Freakes (XJ40) & Dent went on the offensive in his Roller T-boning 970 Scott Lupton’s New Yorker & then Mad Dog who was lucky to escape injury when he was knocked off the car while exiting, 892 Mark Marchant (XJ) planting Booty into the warped 710 Jag. Lupton now did 810 Rugrat (XJ) on oppo as Marchant continued with a T-bone on Booty before 328 Wilkie (DS420 limo) T-boned the Leveller only to take a head-on from Silent Hero 614 Dave Harris (XJ) as a result. Booty now hooked out the leading Furry Dave who took time out to repay his assailant before rejoining & going on to win, a class manoeuvre if ever I saw it. 633 Reedy (XJ) was second with 193 Frank Skinner’s P5 third, Rugrat doing Booty on the run-down lap which set the latter up for a further shot from Furry Dave. Trickett picked up the best hit award which was harsh on Dent.
Result: Furry Dave, Reedy, Skinner, Rugrat, Wyatt, Harris N/O/F
The heavens opened before the last heat of 23 cars which began with 231 Tony Broughton (Continental) hitting 308 Bradders (Vole Estate) as Alexander wasted the unlucky 731 Andas (Austin 3 Litre) on the back straight, the Spedeworth star very much a sitting duck having failed to start when the flag dropped. Alexander continued by taking 621 Wingnut (Super Snipe) & himself in as 914 Paul Woods (Mk2 limo) obliterated Paranoid’s Snipe hearse with a stunning shot on the pit bend. Wingnut hit back by meeting 24 Paul Sammut’s P5 on the nose as 837 the Fox (P4) T-boned 971 Dean Goodall’s Fleetwood while 712 Mr Knox (XJ) set about 547 the Baby Faced Assassin’s Mk2 limo. 772 Bernie (XJ) T-boned the luckless Paranoid as Peanut did Woods taking both men in while Sammut saw to Broughton setting the latter up for a T-bone from the Fox. 688 Wayne Morphet (XJ) was making the running but still used the front bumper to good effect burying Peanut who was subsequently done by Wingnut(!) as was Mr Knox. However Peanut bounced back with a shot on Broughton who also came under fire from Mr Knox before the Fox steamed the latter in turn. Wingnut felt the force of 898 Ralphie’s Vole Estate as Morphet continued to mix it, steaming Ralphie before taking a head-on from the Fox & a shot from the Bear. Peanut was still going & set about Ralphie as the Fox lit up, Morphet holding on for a superb full contact victory from Peanut & Wingnut. Mr Knox took the best hit award which was harsh on Woods (whose shot on Paranoid was much the hit of the race), Wingnut & the Fox, the latter duo both turning in top drawer wrecking displays.
Result: Morphet, Peanut, Wingnut N/O/F
Into the first of two consis with Watkinson & Randy Andy flying over the blocks early doors as Steve Lee followed 93 Rob Chiddle’s XJ40 in with assistance from Mad Mouse. 511 Glen Buxton (DS420 limo) steamed the latter in turn as 947 Butty (P5) set about 101 Garry Deacon’s DS420 hearse only to feel the force of 663 Stu Scarlett’s XJ as a result. Van Rysselberghe did Lee & paid for it with a shot from Roughneck before the reds came out for a driver in trouble though we know not who. It can’t have been too serious however as we were soon back in business with Perren attacking Radley & Stern burying Thornhill before 449 Loopy Lu (Merc) set about the Mobster only to take a storming shot from Buxton who was leading at the time. A big pile-up was forming on the top bend as a result of all this; Rolly thundering in as Mad Mouse met Reedy on the nose & Ozzie walled the bubble Merc. Bernie got stuck in to Frankie & Ozzie continued with a shot on 3 Terry Peacock (XJ) only to receive a payback hit from Stern as Buxton held on to win from Frankie & Mark Deacon. Stern saw the race out by burying Ozzie into Butty’s dead Rover as Bernie took the best hit award this time, presumably for his shot on Frankie.
Result: Buxton, Frankie, Deacon, Ozzie, Stern N/O/F
Merkx leapt over the blocks early in the second consi as Havoc stuck it to Mr Pino & Pentecost blasted the Mk2 hearse of 47 Andy Davies. 235 Jay Randall (Monarch) put a storming shot in on Emmo’s P5 as Woods stuffed 600 Paul Bridgeman (XJ) into Mr Cumshot’s Caddy while Dog End Dan continued his good form by hitting Pentecost. Yo Yo lit up on the back straight as Sammut planted Mr Pino into Cunningham’s big Lincoln at which point 998 Sam Topley’s XJ burst into flames at which point the reds came out with the race declared in favour of Sammut. Marchant & 803 Stress were the placemen with Brutus handed the best hit award when none of us had seen him attack anything!!!
Result: Sammut, Marchant, Stress, Merkx N/O/F
The inclusion of the best hit winners in the final ensured it was anything but a rod-fest with Mr Knox stuffing Morphet into Gnasher’s Olds from the off as Bertie went for a ride over the blocks. Stern finished Mr Knox moments later as Frankie met Shane Davies on the nose before Wyatt finished Stern which allowed Bernie to park in the back of the hearse. Joe Warner met Morphet head-on & Peanut jacked Furry Dave well on the home straight before Trickett elevated Tramp’s P5 in similar fashion only to feel the force of Wingnut. Reedy set about Frankie & Turbo did Wingnut before Billy Lee weighed in on the latter as Steele steamed Reedy. Trickett continued to entertain meeting Turbo head-on & then blasting Lee as a recovered Reedy ran Marchant in. Harvey met Trickett on the nose which allowed Bridgeman to pile up the back of the Pontiac as Tomo met Johns head-on before pushing Harvey head-on into the leading Mushy. Trickett managed one final head-on, Palmer the recipient as Tomo gave Bridgeman the bone & then met Reedy on the nose. Frankie was still on the move despite the state of his Mk10 & gave Reedy a big head-on which handed the race to Mushy, Reedy recovering for second with the impressive Frankie declared third as the only other car moving.
Result: Mushy, Reedy, Frankie N/O/F
Singy
blasted Bertie to get the derby under way as Rolly planted himself in the
back of Andy Davies while 990 Hunter (LTD) attacked Alexander’s Caddy putting
them both in the wall. Woolner hit Merkx & Ace Ash T-boned Pentecost
as Stress gave Harvey a stiff T-bone which brought the reds out for the
latter but not before the Bear had taken a package himself from 497 Gary
Haskell (XJ). Sammut put a late shot in on Stern before Harvey sadly had
to be cut out of his car & it was some time before he was stretchered
off. Credit to PRI who re-started the event when they could easily have
declared it null & void in the circumstances; Stress walling Action
Man to get things rolling again while Sammut blasted Singy. Surprise entrant
Mushy hit Hunter while 822 Nicko (Vole Estate) met fellow Bear Ace Ash
on the nose in a move that certainly wasn’t in the script as Woolner went
head to head with Singy. Mushy put 601 Thundergod (XJ) in the wall as Hunter
followed Peacock in before meeting Woolner on the nose which allowed Mushy
to fire up the back of the Belgian star. Thundergod looked set to deliver
a telling blow on the pit bend but got it all wrong & piled into Alexander’s
dead Caddy instead giving Mushy the victory as Woolner & Hunter were
running but hadn’t moved for a while. Needless to say as soon as the reds
came out the latter broke free to deliver a head-on to Mushy & a shot
to the DS420 but the result stood.
So
ended another Cracker. PRI answered their critics this year with smaller
grids in the heats resulting in fewer pile-ups but the action still came
thick & fast. A decade on from the original it remains the ultimate
meeting if you’re a material freak like me. Long may it continue.

cars turned out in the gale force winds for this years running of the War
of Worlds teams at Kings Lynn. Some top visitors in attendence namely being
the Hitmen and Bears from Smallfield. Some top material was on show as
well, 4 Volvos were on show including a used 740 Est from BR422 Nicko,
best Granadas was the Mk1 of TB364 Sean Winchester and the Coupes of Hitmen
77 Darron Austin and 238 Lozza. Amongst the 8 Jags on show we had an XJ40
from Rebel 150 Mark Smith, a series 2 and series 1 from BZ200 Noon &
BC321 Andy Newton respectively plus a rated XJ Coupe from BC998 Cotty Jnr.
Onto the Japs then and we start with three Crowns from BA617 Jack Overy,
ST811 Pete Winter and BR521 Ace Ash, the latters a well used example. Team
Blitz man 136 Clyde Williams had a 280c Estate and a 300c for team mate
484 Darren Caple. BR169 Jason Thompson had a Mazda 929 Estate while two
Yanks came from BZ220 Trotter and RB443 Dave Harvey with a used Mercury
Marquis and fresh Caddy Sevielle respectively.
Heat
1 saw 23 cars take to the track, Williams getting things underway by giving
BA431 Shaun Abra one over the front wheel before Trotter scored on BR129
Des Marsh and BC17 Mick Sharrod followed in Nicko. The former paid for
it though with a big blitz from Ash as Noon followed in Austin well on
the power station bend which caught a post and snapped the Coupe well.
HM274 Giggler then went on the offensive by spinning BC478 Bandit and taking
Abra in on turns 3-4 as Ash removed Trotters Mercury. Noon picked up and
followed Giggler into Sharrod on the road bend, wrecking the 17 car even
further as 125 Hitler took the win for the Team Black A outfit, HM312 Turbo
second and ST701 Kevin Cooper third.
Down
to 19 cars for a quieter heat 2, Lozza meeting BB19 Joe Mullarkey head
on to get things underway as BR321 Wingnut went in hard on his own before
HM584 Sharkey went in on BA920 James Medley. Thompson then attacked TB823
Mick Murrell as Cotty set about Thompson with a t-bone and then one up
the chuff. HM728 Spike steamed Murrell as BB383Chis accidentally t-boned
Cotty, the latter soon recovering to do Spike, setting the expected war
alight. ST172 Andy Bonsar hooked out BC159 Darren Scarrow as Winter motored
onto victory from running mate 151 Justin Woolner and Overy.
The
25 car heat 3 started with Cooper following in Thompson as the reds came
out for Giggler who didnt get going at the start. Abra followed in BR421
Nutty Nige from the restart, Lozza then taking out Hitler as Giggler fired
BB88 Speedy head on into Abra. BB173 Ray Sharrod then took DI157 Pigglet
in as Speedy set about the Bears by walling Nige and taking Ash in but
took a t-bone from Giggler as a result. The recovered Nige then gave Pigglet
a roof bender as Speedy steamed Ash but was taken out by Nige moments later.
The as ever well involved Nige then took a t-bone from Cotty but landed
an assualted on Abra soon afterwards who recovered to meet his assailant
on the nose. TB364 Sean Winchester then arrived to steam Nige well as Ash
came on oppo to avenge the hit given to his Dad by Abra. Winchester took
another run up at Nige and duly watsed him as Ash took BZ551 Moley out
on oppo, Winchester then came round against the flow to wack Ash over the
front wheel. Winchester and BA431 Shaun Abra give each other a sporting
thumbs up granting them to meet in a head on, BZ205 5-Eyes then come round
to power head on into Winchester who also took a t-bone from Moley. Bonsar
took the win for the Steam Team as Abra give Winchester the bone on the
reds.
Heat
4 was down to 16 cars but still no let up in the action as the Hitmen/Bears
v Blooz Boyz/Team Black kicked off big time on turn 2. Spike hit Noon DSU,
the Blooz Boy taking more punishment from Sharkey but fought back to do
Spike. Woolner pounded Marsh as Chis hit Noon who recovered to do Spike.
The latter was also done head on by Medley as Noon took punsihment from
a combination of Sharkey and Marsh. Mullarkey t-boned the latter as Sharkey
weighed in on Noon and Marsh also did the blue jag. Mullarkey copped one
over the back wheel from Sharkey as Scarrow nailed Marsh and Sharkey piled
into Mullarkey again. Wingnut followed in Chis which allowed Overy to steam
the Bear with Scarrow also piling in on the 321 car. Overy himself took
it from Woolner though as Newton steamed Wingnut and Scarrow piled into
Sharkey while elsewhere Overy spun Woolner on the home straight en-route
to victory from team mate 789 Rob Taylor and ST536 Annette Nicholls, ending
a superb race.
The
final was upto 24 cars as Medley turned Wingnut round at the start, Winter
then doing the same to Overy as Mullarkey headed on Marsh. Lozza took out
BZ211 RHB only to be done by Taylor and steamed by 5-Eyes. Overy then followed
in Winter well on the road bend as ST163 Jeremy Nicholls had Hitler out
and Woolner buried Medley into the infield tyres. This allowed Winter to
steam the 920 car only to be done by 5-Eyes and taken out by Moley who
continued to bury Cooper into Marsh. Hitler, Winter and Taylor then went
in hard before 125 recovered to follow in Woolner. Moley then blitzed Chis
and Overy followed Winter into the pile, wrecking Moleys Mk2 well while
the yellows had finally come out for Chis who was in trouble in his car.
Thankfully he emerged OK with the result declared in the favour of Turbo
from Jeremy Nicholls and Cooper.
With
only the DD to go the Steam Team had all but sealed the win with them leading
by a massive distance of 112 points to second place Team Black A on 38,
in third place were Damage Inc on 21.
The
DD saw 15 cars return and Noon wasted Giggler straight from the off but
was done well himself by Wingnut while elsewhere Thompson had met Newton
in a meaty head on. The yellows came out to check on Noon who was able
to walk away as Sharkey put 5-Eyes round allowing Lozza to give the Blooz
Boy a roof bender. Sharkey took punishment from Medley and Overy as Turbo
met RHB head on, on the centre. Taylor met Overy head on, the latter backing
off to steam Sharkey and then met RHB in a meaty head on. Overy was doing
all the hitting now in his hard core Crown and silenced RHB with a big
portion and then steamed Sharkey well before meeting Medley head on and
back off to take a full contact victory.
With
the weather the way it was on the morning of the meeting no one expected
the meeting to be this good but it was a cracking meeting on the whole
with the fued between the teams providing most of the days action with
the Steam Team taking the expected overall team victory.

A
good showing of 68 cars for the annual Magacrash event, Birmingham having
the honour of staging this years battle of the magazines meeting. With
the limited cc material was naturally limited itself but to break the Bluebird/Capri/Cortina
mold we had a Mazda 626 and Stellar from TW4 Lester Freestone and HV815
Ian Castle respectively while TM129 Shane Davies campained a BMW316. Moving
up a gear now we had FSO's from 3L5 Mark Kelly, TW262 Buster Godden and
HV46 Keith Painter while TM118 Jason Anslow, TW199 Phil Powell, 3L245 Jack
France, HV283 Bryan Webb and HV153 Richard Martin all had the more rated
Mk3 Tina.
25
motors emerged from the gate for the first heat, TW401 Steve Hemmings getting
the night underway by firing into TM771 Dean Perry whilst NS175 Gary Mallinson
ran 153 Martin in but was punished by the pack as a consequence. 3L260
Keith Reynolds then steamed TB211 Barry Franklin before 4 Lester put Anslow
in hard and NS179 Shaun Rushton went up the infield banking unaided. NS54
Richard Hayward ran 3L6 Mark Holdsworth in as TB119 Davy Cox performed
the nights first follow in on Castle. TB22 Dave Vincent was the next to
take an unintended trip up the banking before HV465 John Healey fired Lester
in. The Trash man soon recovered though to take TB564 Mark Cooper into
the hard shuff as 3L198 Marcus Goldsmith t-boned TB115 Gary Rose with some
force. 175 Mallo put TM96 Wayne Davies in as fellow Barrowvian TM16 Rob
Howard steamed HV471 Anthony Oak. 564 Coatie meanwhile took the nights
first victory followed over the line by 54 Bandit and Holdsworth.
A
few less for heat 2 meant we were down to 21 cars but TW70 Simon Needle
kept the action flowing by setting about 3L172 Simon Bryne before 46 Maverick
spun TM263 Joe Greenway onto the centre and steamed NS36 Stephen Birkett.
172 Bernie then steamed Powell well as TM94 Richard Gover took NS295 Graham
Heywood round only to put himself in hard as a result. HV425 Phil McPhilimey
removed TW688 Wayne Morphet from the running as 119 Cruncher jacked 116
Richard Cooper hard on the back straight. Maverick assualted NS340 Jay
Atkinson and Morphet was turned around again this time by Bernie as 3L670
Richard Flockton scooped his first win of the night, NS266 Alan Roskell
and Maverick chasing him home.
TB249
Matt Frost started Heat 3 off by delivering a head on to TW85 Shaun Barnes
admist a pile up on the back straight. NS225 George Coates then attacked
Vincent as Barnes was done by Rushton and HV155 Craig Boyle hit TB53 Dave
Palmer by the door. France had the luckless Barnes out before 3L355 Mark
Simmonds followed in TB112 Shaun Russell big time, wrecking the 112 car
and snapping his own off as well. Simmonds also copping the load up treatment
for his crimes. The yellows were out for 112 Sir Rusty while 10 cars lined
up for the restart with TW104 Mick Siddalls leading them away. Rushton
put 5 Spike in hard straight from the off as Siddalls kept out of touble
to take the win and celebrated by putting 16 Pob up the banking only to
be done by the recovered Spike.
The
21 car fourth heat saw Mallo introduce 401 Psycho to the wall early on
as 311 Danny Smithson steamed TB248 Mark Taylor, the latter soon bouncing
back though follow in Atkinson who wasnt having the best of nights. Maverick
walled TW372 Martin Scully who recovered to spin Atkinson before TB148
Ian Redden attacked Bernie. Psycho took Vincent in hard only to be fired
into by Oak, Mallo then having Cruncher out as Webb did Taylor. 670 Tricky
spun Mallo en-route to victory and was then punished more Taylor as Bandit
followed in Smithson.
It
was 21 cars again for the fifth and final heat and 295 Havoc starting things
off by getting rid of 148 Shorty as 70 the Needle followed in 3L35 Rob
Joplin. Barnes then latched onto 771 Perry with TB67 Mark Wittaker also
grabbing hold of the 85 car and all three going in hard, Barnes taking
the brunt of the damage but the yellows appearing for Perry. 67 Sparky
was disqualified from the rest of the race for taking the two in front
in as Anslow got the 16 car re-run underway by putting Joplin into the
armco before NS252 John Wibberley followed in TW05 Carlos Perez and
Coatie walled 266 Big Al. Havoc met Anslow on the nose as Spike t-boned
Coates and was duly jacked by Healey. The latter took a shot himself from
Pob though as Spike also took more punishment from Havoc. Elsewhere Joplin
walled the Needle as Holdsworth won from Cruncher and Shane Davies.
The
all
in final produced a good grid of 40 cars with France taking punishment
right at the start courtesy of a fencing from Big Al and a t-bone from
Bandit. Maverick wasted 260 Mr Mag with a firm shot as Lester followed
in Joplin and Rushton hooked out Shorty. 372 Scully did Franklin as Maverick
set about the Jaks R Us lads again by following 36 Turkey into Joplin.
Turkey took more punishment after having Smithson buried into him by Franklin,
it then turned into the 252 McWibbs show as he wasted Shorty with a big
portion before dishing out a night ending shot to Rose. Cruncher took out
Siddalls and ended McWibbs hitting show by taking the adopted Scotsman
out on the back straight. The British Champion then hit team mate Rose's
strandard motor as Holdsworth removed Havoc only to be done by the lively
Cruncher. Smithson then followed in Franklin as Tricky cleaned up for the
3 Litre outfit by crossing the line first for his third win of the night
from Siddalls and Holdsworth. Trickys three wins had given the formidable
3 Litre side their hatrick in this competition and they easily beat Havoc
into first place by 80 points to 40. Arriving in third place were the Trash!
Webzine team on 35 points.
15
cars returned for the last crash of the night in the demo and Powell got
proceedings underway by steaming Spike only to be given a head on by Turkey.
Havoc then steamed Barnes as Powell did 129 Davies and was nailed by Havoc.
The Buxton star though took a hit himself from Barnes before the Barford
man carried onto steam Smithson but was silenced by Spike as a consequence.
Webby weighed into Turkey before Scully did Havoc only to be t-boned by
Webby. Spike ended Turkeys involvement in the DD as Anslow took out Havoc
and the increasingly lively Webby nailed Smithsons hat on. Scully then
planted one on Spike over the front wheel only to take a revenge hit from
his prey moments later. Scully though was finished off after a boning from
Webby, a head on from Spike and finally another shot from 283. Meanwhile
Spike had t-boned Webby before the two met in a head on, the latter the
only one to back off and duly take the win.
Ending
a cracking night, only the rain putting a downer on things, the drivers
doing their best though with some fast racing and big shots.

15 Cars in total for the 3rd running of the Millom Open and there was plenty of variety , mostly used though. A fresh Wedge for 33 Lee Mackreth , Rover 800 for 51 Tony McClure and a pair of fresh Grannies for The Maginnis brothers 711 Graham and 712 Billy were the pick of the bunch with the returned XJ40 of 325 Mark "Demo" Dempster from the night before's Barrow Unlimited being the top mount.
Heat
1 drew 13 cars and began with 711 Graham hitting the inner banking before
recovering only to have his passenger door ripped off by a T-Bone from
51 McClure's Rover. 3 Jason Preston (7 SeriesVole) wasted 265 Ian "Waldo"
Wallace's Belmont after the youngster, in his first adult race , had waved
him in .325 Demo had his Xj40 rolled by a combined effort from 376 Taffy
Bromley (used Mk2) and 50 Jamie Latham (used Capri) with Taffy then taking
a hit from the lively Preston. From the restart 478 Chris "Chucker" Spiers
(used Capri) spun out 302 Esther Kirkbride (used Saab). Meanwhile , Mackreth
was boiling up and 540 Tom Metcalfe (Rover SD1) planted him into
98 Michael Wilson (used Celica) who also boiled up at this point! 478 Chucker
took the win.
Result
: 478 Spiers , 302 Kirkbride , 51 McClure , 711 Maginnis , 540 Metcalfe
, 33 Mackreth 712 Maginnis , 98 Wilson
Heat
2 also drew 13 cars , with some changes, 557 Drew Turner (used Mk1 Cav)
and 139 Dave "Dinger" Bell (used P100 pick-up) making their first appearances.
540 Mini Moose and 711 Maginnis were early casualties , taking each other
out and 51 McClure was also a spinner early on . 33 Mackreth chased 478
Chucker for a few laps finally catching and spinning him , only to cop
a portion from 712 Maginnis which finished the Wedge's day. 3 Preston slapped
711 Maginnis and 325 Demo did his brother 712 as 557 Drew took an untroubled
win.
Result
: 557 Turner , 478 Chucker , 51 McClure , 712 Maginnis , 325 Demo , 376
Taffy , 3 Preston , 33 Mackreth
The
Final drew 10 cars and was the race of the meeting . 478 Chucker took 712
Maginnis out early doors , Chucker being removed straight after by 139
Dinger . Meanwhile 302 Esther was taken into the banking by 711 Maginnis
who was then blasted hard by 376 Taffy who then took a rated roofbender
from impressive youngster 540 MiniMoose in the SD1. 139 Dinger weighed
into Metcalfe in a revenge shot while elsewhere , 51 McClure was removing
325 Demo to take the lead , which he held till the end also spinning
712 Maginnis en-route.
Result
: 51 McClure , 557 Turner , 478 Chucker , 325 Demo , 712 Maginnis
This
gave the championship overall results on accumulated points as : 1st 478
Chucker , 2nd 51 McClure and 3rd 557 Drew Turner
A
mixed Mechanics race raised 12 cars and although 376 Taffy didnt quite
make it back out , full credit to him and his Team for a good effort. 11
Platt (Capri) jacked and spun 557 Drew early on , but Drew chased hard
and caught him , doing him in return only to cop a large package and follow-in
from Antony Cole in the 3 Vole. Lucy Jones took a flag to flag win in her
on-loan Pug 405.
Just
4 for the DD including a pug 205 for 222 Edgey. The 73 Orion did Cole's
Vole setting him up for a good T-Bone from 302 Steve Woodend who then had
a high speed 222 bounce off him before copping a large package from the
Orion , Woodend still running however to take the win.
It's
been a while since I've seen a session this good at Millom , with the hits
in the Final being particularly memorable

A
low and rather disappointing turnout of 37 cars spread over 10 teams, considering
that this used to be a meeting the would easily attract over 100 cars and
was a past meeting of the year. Visitors came from Barford and Barrow but
materially we had two Series 3 Jags, fresh and used XJ40's from WA149
Paul Gore and WC439 Jay Kellet respectively, WB449 Mark Thomas provided
a 300c Estate, TD123 Alex Waddington a Volvo 740 and WA470 Paddy Murphy
braved it was a Mk3. Cars of the day though undoubtedly came from WA362
Paul Eccles with a Dodge Charger and SW461 Pete Singleton with a superb
Humber Hawk, the latter thaking material of the day.
18
appeared on track for the first with Gore removing SW431 Dean Steele straight
away before TD145 Mick Driver walled TV690 Pete Richardson. Eccles then
powered the big Dodge head on into Waddington's Vole only to cop a t-bone
from Gore. The lively Gore then piled fired up the back of SW550 Davy Sinclair
but his hitting soon came to an end when TV340 Jay Atkinson spotted his
back end and duly piled up the back of it. Gore did recover to land a blow
to Waddington though as MM318 Wilf Speak had OT57 Alan Oggie out. The former
though copped a shot from 431 Deano for his troubles with Eccles then doing
Deano in turn. 550 Stripit then piled up the back the Yank only to cop
it from MM319 Gary Shovleton. DB169 Steven Horsfield then punished the
Scotsman more by firing hard into him before Atkinson nailed Eccles with
a hard shot at the entrance to the pit bend though snapped his own car
in the process. Deano then followed in 319 Shovy well wrecking the latters
Estate as DB168 Ian Horsfield took the win from WB352 Nick Hird and 169
Little Hoss.
One
less for the last heat and OT118 Steve McCormick started it off by hitting
TD143 Sam Begley as TV266 Alan Roskell steamed Murphy's Mk3. McCormick
then copped it from 461 Singy's Humber before MM410 Alex McBain did SW510
Alan Lewis. Singy then avenged that hit by piling up 410 Rugrat only to
cop it from Begley which started a pile up by the exit gate. 266 Big Al
then give it to Begley hard as IV512 Alan Woods steamed 651 Dave Walker.
Big Al then backed out and duly went in on WB351 Tut Knowles before IV518
Jon Woods hit MM312 Lee Hennedy over the front wheel. 512 Woods then steamed
Murphy before TD728 Paul Robinson followed in 510 Ghost on the pit bend.
518 Woods took the win this time followed home by team mate Alan Woods
and 651 Huggy.
With
the consolation scrapped we went straight into the non-qualifiers B final
with 13 cars on track. Waddington followed in WC801 John Black straight
from the off which left the latter sitting on his assassins bonnet. Stripit(who
had done well to get his wrecked Estate back out) then also give 439 Kellet
a taste of the plating before Begley then picked up WC802 Graeme Black
and follow him in superbly into team mate(!)Waddington, wrecking the latter
big style and also seeing Black roll off Waddingtons bonnet in a spectacular
incident. The waved yellows were straight out with everyone emerging all
OK. Down to 6 for the restart which saw Stripit pull off another follow
in, this time on WA469 Richard Valentini with Big Al doing the same to
Kellet. Gore steamed Strippit well, finishing him for the day though copping
one over the front wheel from The Ghost for his troubles. The latter continued
to run Kellet in as Deano took the win from Ghost and Big Al, only three
finishing.
The
A final had 17 qualifiers on track and 312 Bullit got us underway by sending
WB350 Lee Hird spinning before Huggy fenced Jon Woods. McCormick then piled
into the luckless Woods before Knowles went Dahm hunting by giving 168
Big Hoss a hard t-bone at the end of the home straight and following in
Little Hoss. IV501 Ste Kaye then jacked Rugrat and steamed Little Hoss
only finally succumbing to Bullit. Speak then had Nick Hird out before
the latter went against the flow and hit Oggie DSU. Speak continued to
put IV514 Paul Woods in before Hird steamed DB2 Richard Ball on the start/finish
straight. Alan Woods fired Speak into the inner kirb and Huggy put Oggie
en-route to victory from 514 Woods and the recovered Oggie.
As
there were points on the DD, this saw the highest grid of the day as 23
cars returned to grid one last time. Paul Woods got it off to a cracking
start by delivering a big follow in to Bullit and Alan Woods did the same
to Tut Knowles. Singy planted the Hawk up the back of Huggy only to take
a 'just behind the door' hit from Oggie. Nick Hird went into the pile on
the car park bend and was duly blitzed by Lewis which put the back wheel
off the ground and behind the roll cage. Lewis himself though was wasted
by a large portion from Rugrat and 449 Thomas jacked down 728 Robbos Estate.
Kellet hit Singy before Deano steamed Jon Woods which only left Deano and
Singy, the latter expiring on the back straight to leave Deano the victor.
Once
all the points had been totted up the Dahm Busters had taken overall victory
on 63 points from the Invaders in second on 59 and Steeles Wreckers in
third on 55 with 651 Huggy declared best wrecker.
This
ended an enjoyable meeting, actually pretty good considering the number
of cars present and some good wrecks to go home happy about.

Despite only having 27 cars, Wartons annual Championship Meeting on sept 8th drew its fair share of material. Team V duo 266 Big Al & 340 Trev had a MK2 Limo & MK2 Hearse respectively whilst the Motley Krew went a bit better with a 300c Estate from 449 Mark Thomas, Oldsmobile Cutlass from 149 Paul Gore and from 666 Andy Pennington, arguably Wartons best ever car, a Lincoln Town car Limo.
Heat
1 was for non-qualifiers and drew just 9 cars, 97 Baz Kitchen crusing to
the win after team-mate 291 Filthy Boy shed a wheel and put himself into
the plating.
Result-97
Baz Kitchen,186, 169 Steve Horsefield, 196, 178 Bones
The
remaining 18 gridded for the Championship with 666 Pennington using the
Limo to run 41 Dan Steele & 224 Micheal Ross wide. Steele planted Trev
into 394 Andy Thompson who was parked up later by 297 Tim Nickson. Trev
then pulled off a rated follow-in on Gore's Yank which snapped alarmingly
but he was soon out alright. Thomas then drove through the empty Atkinson
car who got the load up anyway with Steele giving 491 John Mason a stiff
shot after he had spun 157 Bazza out but undeterred Mason took the win.
Result-
491 John Mason, 514 Paul Woods, 350 Lee Hird, 157 Barry Greenhalgh, 224
Micheal Ross, 297 Tim Nickson, 41 Dan Steele.
Next
up was two allcomers, the first drawing 11 cars and it was a blinder. Steele
walled 169 Little Hoss well and Filthy Boy set about 501 Basher. Steele
then did 186 Fish well and put him in, 169 Little Hoss also running Basher
in. Steele a lap later put Hoss Jnr into the 501 car with the 169 pilot
recovering to dod Filthy Boy head-on. 98 Billy Doolan hten blew the 169
MK2 up with Steele firing Kitchen in on the last bend to take the win.
Result-
41 Dan Steele, 514 Paul Woods. NOF
Allcomers
2 by comparison was very poor, the only real action of note saw Pennington
having the tempremental Limo spun by 512 Allan Woods, in a rad-up Lada
Riva!. 157 Bazza won.
A healthy and respectable 37 Metros appeared for Barrows annual small car bash. Most notable being 651 Huggy's home brew pick up. Format was 2 heats, Consolation and Final with an allcomers thrown in for good measure. Visitors coming from Warton, RDC, Millom, Blackpool and Workington.
Heat 1 saw 17 cars on track and kicked off with 145 spinning 246 Flan snr who took a head on from 376 Taffy. 14 Butch was spun by 151 Scurr Jnr only to be backed in. Butch then took a shot from TNTs 256 who took a stiffer shot from 36 Turkey. 336 took a shot from 145 who was than hit hard by both 310 Eno and 125. Leader 415 John Mason, in an effort to find a clear path, launched himself over the inner bund wall but survived to continue. Flan put 123 into the centre as 185 Michelle Creighton was deposited onto the inner armco by 125. 36 Turkey bundled into a dead car ripping the strut out and ending his race. Flan snr steamed 125 flipping him onto his roof, this brought out the yellows, chequered and red flags in quick succession. 415 John mason held on for the win from 123 and 16 Pob.
Results: 415.. 123.. 16.. 246.. 125..
Heat
2 had the remaining 20 cars on track and 158 Dave Knight spun 306 from
the green flag as the pack arrived causing quite a road block. 477 Skyliner
fenced 666 Instigator only to take a hard shot from 742 Budgie, the latter
also taking a shot from 478 Chucker. 188 Barlow put 665 Bert onto the grass
as total blockage developed on turn 4. As a cloud of smoke covered the
scene it was pleasing to see that no one backed off on the way in and that
although vision was difficult, suffice to say that everyone hit whatever
was in front of them. Budgie put Instigator into the fence and 878 romeo
arrived to put the 666 car up the fence. 146 Flan Jnr steamed Budgie then
got the same from Bert. 52 Boozie steamed 306 John Kirkbride before a path
was cleared. 102 put 666 in on turn 1 with a 651 Huggy assist, while Boozie
disposed of Romeo into the centre. 158 blitzed Skyliner while elsewhere
Huggy spun 134 Doug Behagg who was then steamed by the lively Flan Snr.
146 fenced 572 before Huggy arrived to put Flan Jnr up the plating on turn
4. 52 Boozie went on to take a good full contact win.
Results: 52.. 331.. 665.. NOF
The consolation brought 20 cars back for another go at qualifying for the Final. 666 spun 185 and was done by 259 Liam Johnson. 14 Butch, 42 Donkey and 306 Kirkbride all piled into turn 2 together. 500 Curley met Skyliner on the nose with a 259 assist, this started a good pile up on the back straight. Most of the field got stuck into it. 146 put 102 onto the inner armco as Butch arived to blitz the stranded 102 car. Flan Snr then went on to bury himself into the back of 259. 666 spun 185 again as Butch took the flag. The win was later given to 134 Little Shafter after a lap sheet check.
Results: 134.. 14.. 666.. 185.. NOF
The Final was not the epic we expected. 12 qualifiers on track and first blood went to Flan Snr with a good shot on 123 getting the back end well airborne. the leading 415 was getting a lot of attention from Instigator and Butch and did well to hold the lead for as long as he did. 246 performed a good follow in on 125 on turn 2 as Butch spun the Instigator, who recovered to fence and turn 185. Butch spun Bert while Flan Snr steamed 331 Jay Roberts who in turn took out the Instigator, the latter then taking a head on from 123 Waddy coming out of the centre. 415 Mason then hit the 123 car bringing which lost him the lead. Butch inherited the lead only to be enticed into contact rather than go for the money. On the last lap he came across a limping Mason and duly followed him in on turn 2. This allowed 16 Pob to catch Butch on the last lap and take the win and the Metro Champion Title. Jay steamed Waddy on the rundown.
Results: 16.. 14.. 246.. 134.. 123.. 665..
An Allcomers race was put on for those cars that wanted to race and raised a healthy 16 cars. 16 buried 331 from flagfall while 742 tustled with 246 who took a shot from 14. An out of shape 742 was caught by 16 and promptly Turtled. Yellows out to recover the flipped budgie who was fine. 42 was spun by 145 on the restart and 123 received the same from 310. On the next lap the 310 car came upon 123 again which resulted in Waddy getting the flip over treatment. Credit to the 16 driver for immediately blocking for the upturned Waddy. With only a couple of laps remaining, the race was called and 145 given the nod.
Results: 145..
The DD was short but sweet. 666 put a big shot in on 123 while 36 Turkey Shoved 310 Eno around to a waiting 52 Boozie to apply a solid head on. Instigator came off the centre to steam Boozie and was in turn done by the following Waddy. Instigator gave Turkey the bone and then went on to meet Boozie in a solid head on. Turkey was on his own so decided to check each car in turn. He gave Boozies car a length of the straight shot, then Eno was steamed, he gave Boozie another shot for good measure and finished off with a shot to the 123 car.
Results: 36..
Not the wreckfest we have become accustomed to at Barrow Metros but very enjoyable. Good Format with plenty of cars on track for each race.

A
brilliant turnout of bang on 100 motors for the anuual West Coast Team
Championship at the highly rated Roosecote Raceway. Material was limited
due to the 2 litre limit but what was on offer were 4 Mk3 Cortinas from
BA878 Romeo Jalbert, JR52 Ste Bowes, MA880 Neil Naismith and NR143 Sam
Begley. Distance traveller TW465 John Healey had a tidy 2 door Mk4 with
the best of the bilge being a Sunny Coupe from TA14 Will Walmsley, WA881
Scott Naismith with a Stellar, BG27 Kieron Potter an Opel Manta, Saab 900
for MB430 Bob Moffat, the sole Mk3 Granada was in the hands of BG332 Danny
Shaw, an Opel Ascona for MA911 Chris Harkness while JR36 Stephen Birkett
had a rare Sopporo Coupe. Motor of the day though was the Mk1 Capri of
LB246 Steve Flannery.
The
cars were split into 5 groups with groups A, B and C out for heat 1(2 cars
from each team)which had 22 cars on track. BG331 Jay Roberts got the day
underway by taking out MB108 Ian Gordon as LB146 Phil Flannery had the
honour of first follow in of the day, NR4 Jason Preston being the unlucky
victim. The former then continued by blasting 878 Jalbert as KZ502 John
Wallace met MA252 John Wibberley on the nose. The yellows then appeared
for reasons unknown but with not many people taking much notice. MB150
Leon Pelc attacked KZ258 Chris Hart with the mobster taking a revenge steam
from KZ502 Hoagy. NA4 Preston rolled on the back straight which eventually
brought out the reds but still Harty did MB150 Mr Lazy head on with the
latter taking another hit from Hoagy. Harty then went about chasing Lazy
around the track in a potentially dangerous move with officials and tractors
on track before order was finally restored with both Harty and Lazy copping
load ups. 14 came back for the restart with MB108 Tangoman putting himself
in before RA253 Tim Carter removed Begley from the running. The latter
also took punishment from Tangoman with NB54 Rich Haywood attacking BA156
Daz Fine. Hoagy fired into RA478 Chris Spiers before the latter exacted
revenge soon after by spinning the Scotsman. NB54 Bandit took RA253 Carter
out as NB75 Jim O'Brien removed LB146 Flan. Hoagy was then on the recieving
end of NO728 Paul Robinson as Bandit took RA478 Chucker in. NR917 Derek
Jones then wiped BG650 Phil Barker out as the lively Bandit ran Flan in
well. Barker soon recovered to keep first place and duly take the win with
Jones and Bandit his placemen.
Groups
C,D and E were out for the 23 car second heat with NR42 Steve Owen getting
us underway by following in BG649 Mike Close as JR477 Rob Bell weighed
into Moffat. 246 Flannery then treated the unlucky Moffat the a bone as
TW05 Carlos Perez followed JR477 Skyliner in. JR231 Trev Whelan was soon
to gain revenge as he powered his Capri up the back of the O5 car with
TW57 Stu Cummings steaming BG332 Danny Shaw with the former then copping
a blitzing from TA340 Jay Atkinson. NA59 Brian Heywood followed in Krazy
Krew man 243 Dougie Thompson as TA341 Sean Lowther powering up the back
of Perez. The latter then took a big head on off NO53 Michael Wood with
Perez then taking more punishment, this time from TR42 Donkey. The latter
took it himself from KZ55Roger Pirie before he also copped a hit from NO53
Kong. The latter took the same treatment from Perez with Pirie then taking
NA6 Mark Holdsworth round as the ever lively Perez steamed into Heywood
but to no effect as the latter carried onto taste victory.
It
was the turn of groups E, A and B for a 25 car third heat as LA16 Rob Howard
took TW401 Steve Hemmings in early doors before JR52 Boozie introduced
BW189 Shaun Dawes to the plating. The former then copped it from LA59 Marc
Blower and NR87 Steven Spencer in quick succesion as MA152 James Dillon
steamed RA441 Ian Burns. The former then copped the same treatment from
KZ666 Graham Charnley before BG331 Roberts went in hard on RA77 Dave Tyson
as one of the trademark pileups began. TW465 Havoc steamed WA4 Glen Mackie
with WA3 Dave Beach soon avenging the hit. Boozie hammered NR88 Wayne Morphet
as Blower buired himself up the back of Beach. The somehow recovered Morphet
carried onto do Blower before a batch of yellows coming out to clear the
track. 15 made it back for the restart with the lively Blower following
in NB164 Chas Knowles well on the pit bend. The leveller then copped some
of his own medicine from Roberts as Morphet walled Boozie. The yellows
reappeared for Knowles who thankfully emerged all OK with 6 back for the
restart. MA155 Scott Hamilton went for Charnley on oppo but missed only
to take a shot from Boozie for his troubles. Charnley earned himself a
black mark by doing the empty 155 car before Boozie stopped and waved them
in on the exit to the pit bend, Roberts the only one to oblige. LA16 Pob
did Morphet en-route to victory from the the latter and Roberts.
Heat
4 had 22 cars and saw groups B, C and D on track. It got off to an explosive
start as BG650 Barker took a massive follow in from NR151 Steve Scurr Jnr,
totally carrier bagging the 650 car and producing just about the biggest
Cortina wreck ever. The yellows were straight out but not before NB39 Steve
McEvoy had gone in on clipboard corner and WA13 Colin Johnstone did MA325
Mark Dempster on oppo. Barker thankfully emerged OK with the field down
to 14 cars by the restart. NA8 Daz Own had NO69 Mark Bass out with NA6
God then taking TB540 Paul Perry in. Begley gave TA310 John Nicholson a
bone as MB73 Alan Potts went in with NR151 Young Scurr. Potts then copped
a steam from LA325 Demo before Begley jacked NA8 Deadly Daz. The latter
then copped it over the front wheel from MA6 Craig Robertson as Demo buried
Begley into Barker to make the strandard Tina wreck even worse! NA295 Graham
Heywood took victory for the seemingly undefeatable Northern Steam from
TA310 Eno and TB540 Pez.
The
final heat had groups D, E and A on track which brought out 20 cars. NA41
Dan Steele got proceedings underway by putting BA376 Kevin Bromley in before
NB39 Smosha put NR86 Jim Simpson round as TA14 Sausage Boy flipped it on
the centre. Perez then did Steele before the former carried onto jack MA911
Chris Harkness. JR175 Gary Mallinson had Sausage Boy out as Perez, BW360
John Gutkowski and Smosha all piled into the infield marker tyres. NA213
Marc Watkins followed in BA376 Taffy as Steele fired JR235 Paul Webb into
Harkness. 465 Havoc followed in Simpson only to cop succesive hits from
4 Preston and NR97 Baz Kitchen. Steele then attacked Sausage Boy with the
latter recovering to fire into Woka. Steele took victory from the aforementioned
Woka and Sausage Boy.
After
the heats Northern Steam A were leading on 36 points from Bong Gang on
17 and Levellers A on 13.
The
semi finals were open to 3 cars from each team with the first one having
25 cars on track and traveller MA880 Neil Naismith started things off by
assualting BA139 Dave Bell as TA341 Beaver followed in BG332 Shaws Mk3
Granny in big style, into the exact post as his team mate did earlier snapping
the Mk3 impressive and no doubt being a candidate for one of the biggest
Mk3 wrecks ever. Smosha weighed into Jalbert but rolled as a consequence
with the yellows straight out. Both Smosha and Shaw emerging none the worse
for wear. 17 cars were back for the restart with 106 Thompson going up
the wall as LB264 Ian Wallace Snr jacked down Naisys Mk3. Pez then felt
the force of BA139 Dinger with MA252 McWibbs taking 264 Waldo Snr out.
NR97 Bodge ran RA441 Burny into Pez only to cop it from Waldo. Bodge took
more punishment from Beaver who fired him into 75 Steve Thacker. Beaver
carried onto give Burny a taste of the plating with Bodge firing Waldo
in as Beaver took a full contact win from Bodge and 478 Chucker.
340
Atkinson started the 25 car second semi off by steaming TW401 Psycho with
the latter quick to bouce back to follow in JR175 Mallo. A pile up was
soon to form at the start of the home straight as Begley fired 6 God into
Perez with NO69 Smelly nailing 16 Pob. WA731 Scott Douglas gave BW3 Lee
Armstrong the same treatment only to be silenced by NR297 Tim Nickson.
Douglas also took a head on from JR231 Grandad with the latter getting
done by God. TW57 Dino steamed Demo only to cop some of his own treatment
from Shaun Dawes. Dino was also done by Eno with the latter taking the
same treatment from Pob. Only Pob and Eno emerged from the pile up with
Eno then feeling the force of Pob on the back straight. Kong then fired
up to meet Pob head on, Psycho also going in on the Leveller as the latter
recovered to nail Eno en-route to victory from the Team V star ending a
cracking race.
After
the semis the points situation was as follows: Northern Steam A still
ahead on 36 points, Team V A second on 26 and Levellers still third on
23.
Only
16 of a possible 36 qualifiers appeared for the A final with Woka burrying
Pob into Morphet early doors as Bandit took out Chucker with the latter
recovering only to be followed in by Steele. The latter continued to do
NR917 NSD as Steele then got some of his own medicine from Beaver. NO728
Robbo wasted 295 Havoc with Steele landing a hard blow to Bodge just behind
the door before going onto do Dawes. Bodge retaliated by doing Steele as
Beaver steamed Demo. The latter soon recovered to pile up the back of Woka
with Brian Heywood avenging the hit en-route to victory with the latter
being the only one to finish.
The
A final was open to all others who never qualified and had 20 cars on track.
42 Donkey ran BW276 James Turner up a post from the off as 881 Naismith
met RA252 Paul Carter in a big head on coming off the centre. 86 Simpson
then blitzed Naisy well on turn 1 with reds out straight away. BA651 Dave
Walker took out Donkey before landing a t-bone on Borrower 259 Liam Johnson.
A recovered Donkey gave BG27 Potter a large roof bender as BA651 Huggy
gave 253 Carter a big head on. 73 Alan Potts took the victory from Skyliner
with only two finishing.
By
now Northern Steam had run up a convincing victory on 51 points from Team
V A in second on 26 and Levellers A in third.
Jaks
R Us took smartest team award, 54 Bandit took best wrecker and 16 Pob took
best entertainer.
An
all in DD with no points to finish with 21 returning for one last crash.
Hoagy jacked WA455 Alex Ramsey before Woka spun Begley whereabouts the
latter was done head on by Charnley. Begley was pounded further by Roberts
who took a shot himself from NR707 Lee Tomlinson. Eno steamed Hoagy as
Tomlinson did LB114 Steve Waddington. The lively Beaver then did Flan head
on with Tomlinson also doing the former. The latter then went in on Eno
with NB75 The Menace doing Beaver over the front wheel. Menace also took
a t-bone from Sausage Boy with Waldo also doing the same only for the Menace
to keep it going and was duly awarded victory.
This
ended a quite superb meeting, no one backing out for anyone. 2 of the biggest
wrecks of all time, just in one meeting and some brilliant wrecking all
day long. Held in beautiful weather, Barrows biggest ever meeting give
them their just rewards a 100 car turnout!

56
drivers appeared at the newly re-surfaced Hednesford Hills Raceway for
the second in the SKY TV series of Krask Kings. A good bit of tackle was
on show with the best of the 10 Jags on show being the XJ Coupe of WP90
Rob Baker and the XJ40 of CC54 Richard Hayward. Lots of Mk1's came from
SR4David Wilde, SR670 Richard Flockton, MB152 James Dillon, WP443 Dave
Harvey, MN83 Llyod Isherwood and MB108 Ian Gordon, the latters a smart
Coupe. Crowns were in the hands of WB316 Andy Cushion, MB155 Scott Hamilton
and MB150 Leon Pelc. This just left car of the meeting which was WB591
Simon Ballards DS420 Limo.
The
Crash Company and Mob were paired together for Heat 1 with the full compliment
of 20 cars appearing. From the off CC85 Shaun Barnes was quick to spin
MB880 Neil Naismith before 152 Dillon accidentally gave running mate MB129
Ken Smith a t-bone. A revenge seeking 880 Naisy then took out Barnes as
CC251 Ade Phillips ran MB430 Bob Moffat round the armco. MB252 John Wibberley
attacked Barnes with the latter then backing the attacking Mobster in before
replying with a head on. A limping Barnes was then well blitzed by a ''could'nt
resist it'' MB122 Steve Durkin, the latter getting his front wheels off
the ground in the process. A recovered 252 McWibbs then t-boned CC70 Si
Needle before 155 Hammy took CC666 Dan Lucas out of contention. MB06 Craig
Robertson took the victory from CC214 Will Walmsley and 108 Tangoman. 5
Mob cars finished to Crash Co's 2 with the Mob taking 27 points to Crash
Co's 9.
Heat
2 had Wild Boys facing the much fancied Seasiders with the latter a driver
short. SR46 Keith Painter got proceedings underway by sending WB384 John
Golden spinning as SR647 Danny Verrall introduced WB262 Buster Godden to
the armco. SR670 Tricky gave WB269 Dean French a shot with the former continuing
to assault WB11 Steve Matthews. WB384 Goldie hit SR265 Ken Angel before
Verrall wiped WB74 Mark Shaw out. SR82 Paul Tomkins removed Ballards Limo
before WB80 Matty Allman steamed Angel with Verrall then arriving to do
Allman. WB37 Phil Woskett, WB74 Mouse and Verrall then had it away on the
back straight with Barmy Ballard arriving to power the DS hard up the back
of Verrall, trashing the latter well. A good train was then formed on the
West bend when SR82 Winkle weighed into WB37 Fizz before copping the same
treatment from Allman. Wilde then steamed into Allman with Tricky appearing
on the scene to do the same to Fizz. Tricky drove well to win from Mouse
and Winkle. Both sides had drew level on points, 18 each.
The
last eliminator saw Wasps and Men In Black on track with the latter fielding
a full side but Wasps only able to field 6. From the off MN82 Edward Fothergill
took out Wasp 161 Pete West as WP90 Grippa piled the XJ Coupe up the back
of MN245 Tyrone Taylor. WP774 Pete Sill then had Dave Harey out as MN83
Lloyd Isherwood hit WP5 Matt Sheard hard over the back wheel. The latter
took more punishment from MN284 Andy Edwards as he delivered a large portion
of t-bone before WP774 Silly walled MN333 Martin Hinson. The latter soon
recovered to heave Harvey out before doing the same to Taylor. MN285 Darren
Lewis took victory from Hemmin and MN282 Simon Turner with the Men In Black
taking 22 points and Wasps 11.
Crash
Co and Wasps were paired together for the consi with WP1 Mark Thomas spinning
CC688 Wayne Morphet out early on with 251 Phillips putting WP161 Westy
in soon after as CC40 Ian Kitchen arrived to dish out a big head on to
Westy. The two Barrow guests then impressed as CC214 Sausage Boy trashed
Thomas and Morphet gave WP69 Copey a big t-bone on the back straight. CC601
Lee Usher then set about Harvey on the centre with 333 Hemmin winning for
the Wasps with Dan Lucas and CC54 Bandit his placemen.
The
first semi, run to DD rules over 6 mintues had Men In Black against Seasiders
with the latter team two men down with 7 and the Men in Black 9. SR320
Grahame Duell kicked the race into life by following in MB43 Dave Rose
with the latter then taking a hard shot to the back wheel from 670 Tricky.
The Reds appeared soon after for a fire in the 43 car with 13 back for
the restart. Duell t-boned 282 Turner as Tricky gave 333 Hinson a head
on. The former was then taken out well by 245 Taylor who was in reverse
at the time as 774 Silly felt the force of SR348 Sonny Sherwood. This only
left Isherwood to fend for himself and after a lot of cat and mouse he
managed to spin both Winkle and 348 Mushy before t-boning the latter which
left him open for a nailing from Tricky. The Seasiders took the win with
5 still left running at the end.
The
second semi saw The Mob paired with Wild Boys with the Scotsmen returning
all ten cars from their first encounter, the Wild Boys down to 8. As expected
McWibbs went for it on oppo straight from the off only to miss his intended
target and put a wheel back whilst hitting the kirb. Wibbs then had more
bad luck, taking a bone from 37 Fizz with the latter then meeting Dillon
in a head on. Fizz then took some of his own as he was assaulted by 880
Naisy with the latter to pay for it as well as he copped a good steaming
from WB316 Cush. WB13 Marc Gilbert then finished Naisy with a hit to the
back wheel before Cush's Crowns was comprehensively destroyed by 108 Tangoman.
The latter tried in vain to get his Coupe trashed, waving the Wild Boys
in and even at one point giving the passing drivers the middle finger but
to no evail! 80 Allman then ran 430 Moffat into Naisy as MB122 Turk put
his second big hit of the day in as he went in to trash Fizz's Estate well.
WB11 Yeti avenged the hit by going in on Turk with the latter then replying
with a head on. 129 Smith steamed Mouse as MB06 Zippy t-boned Goldie. Smith
then walled Mouse hard before Allman met Zippy on the the nose. Smith meanwhile
had steamed Yeti with WB269 Popeye t-boning Zippy after the latter had
done Popeye over the front wheel. Smith did Yeti before coming over the
centre to silence him with a good steam with the former the only one left
running to take a good win for the Mob.
We
came away before the final/DD as there was still about 4 Rod races to go
and it hadnt helped with too many formulas on plus we were also facing
long journey back. What we had seen though had been good, some good racing
on the re-surfaced track with a few top hits along the way made for an
entertaining day.
The
Mob were up against it going into the final as they could only field 5
cars compared to the Seasiders 7. 348 Mushy took 122 Turk out early on,
129 Kruncher had 320 Graham Duell out well with the Seasider getting his
Estate wasted by a hit from 155 Mr Nervous. Maverick crashed 108 TangoMans
smart Coupe before giving Nervous a monster t-bone, and whilst the Scotsman
got out okay, the race was brought under caution as he was in some trouble
but he was later okay. Maverick kicked the restart off by blasting
152 Mr Grumpys immaculate MK1 and then wasting it a lap later, 821 Winkle
spun Kruncher out who was obliterated seconds later by Maverick who was
supply some top entertainment in his Jag. With the Mob challenge finished
the Seasiders took the win and we went into a serperate DD.
774
Meatball destroyed 443 Dave Harvey, 83 Lloyd Isherwood buried Maverick
into 40 Kitch with 285 Darren Lewis going in on Maverick head-on. 670 Tricky
then went in on Lewis to waste him, 245 Tyrone Taylor steamed Maverick
with Taylor getting a head-on from Wildy. Isherwood then gave Wildy a couple
of choice shots with Kitch being declared the winner as he was still moving
after all this.
Cheers to Stu Kearsley for the final and DD report. Check out the next issue of Northern Steam for a further report.

Another poor showing of just 12 cars for this Domestic meeting. Once again other big meetings are taking local drivers attention with cars being built for the King of the Peaks at Buxton and the upcoming Barrow Teams.
Only visitor coming from Warton and nothing of note on the car front.
Heat one had all 12 out and kicked off with a couple of laps of catchy catchy. First contact came from 143 Sam Begley (Cortina) putting 234 Smiler (Santana) to the plating. The latter recovered to take a full bore follow in from 41 Dan Steele (Capri) on the next lap, finishing the VW for the day. 231 Grandad (Sierra) pushed 259 Liam Johnson to the wall as Team mate 175 Les (Sunny Coupe) came in with a shot to the rear quarter of the 259 Sierra. 41 Gave 143 the turn around on the back straight and the proceeded to follow 259 into the wall on turn 2. Grandad went on to take the win from Les and Dan
Result 231, 175, 41, 137, 264.
Heat 2 had 10 return. Once again it was sam Begeley that made the first move with a follow in on 259, finishing the Liams car for the day. 143 then went on to spin 137 Pinty (Sierra) and walled himself in the process. 41 spun 143 on the back straight as elsewhere 264 Waldo (Sierra) gave the dead 259 car the Bone. A 4 car train went into turn 4 with Les spinning 666 Instigator (Capri) and Pinty giving dan a mother of a Follow in, Dan getting all four wheels off the deck and landing on the 666 car. 41 tried all manner of ways to block Grandad only to receive a large package from Les. After another two attempts to stop Grandad taking the win, Dan consoled himself with a shot to the empty 175 car.
Result 231, 264, 41, 143.
Only 6 cars made the final but it was worth the effort. Dan, Les and Grandad went into Turn 3 in a train but Grandad was the only one to come out. Dan spun 175 and les Backed him in only to take a big head on from Instigator. 41 and 175 were locked together on the home straight when Grandad returned to do Dan in a big head on killing the 231 Sierra. Dan Backed out to meet Les on his next lap, also head on and dan then went on to do Waldo head on. Sam Begley was the only car left running at this point but it didn’t stop him paying Dan a visit through the passenger door. With no one left running and only 4 laps in the record books, the race was declared null and void.
A
watchable session with everyone trying to please but also keep an eye on
the points race between Grandad and dan. The Final once again proved that
Barrow can produce a wreckfest with only 6 cars.

Twenty nine teams arrived to do battle for the annual team championship, with a black mark going to the Red Rebels who failed to honour their booking when several teams were on a waiting list and keen to attend. In the race, FT22 Vincent pushed OC46 Maverick wide to take the lead, although Maverick got back on terms and pulled a similar move on Vincent on the last bend to retake the lead and win, while DB62 Kingston launched BZ201 Wol into a roll to conclude the action.

34 cars out for heat three with BZ211 Red Hot Barry firing into FS303 Brian Cope from the off with Cope then taking a head on from DA99 Scott Hill, then FS265 Ian McGregor rolled his Capri off the victory ramp to bring the race to a halt, well done to JD100 Sat who shielded the rolled motor until the race was stopped. On the restart, RR401 Psycho (Capri) fired into SA318 Wilf Speak's similar machine, taking WB74 Mouse (Accord) in too, while SA409 Carlos buried NS691 Snapper into TB48 Mark Taylor's Capri with BX175 Steve Thacker then piled into this by NS291 Neil Hodson and JD282 Uglee following in HJ98 Alan Beamon with RR401 Psycho going hard into Uglee before being removed by WB74 Mouse and walled by old rival FT119 Cruncher, Cruncher then putting W44 Dave Burrows away. BF777 Trevor Luff neatly moved SA409 Carlos wide to move through for the win with WB920 James Medley third.
Result: BF777 Trevor Luff, SA409 Carl Pears, WB920 James Medley, BZ211 Barry Sim, WB74 Mark Shaw, FT119 Davey Cox, W44 Dave Burrows
Around 33 cars for heat four which began with DB62 Dave Kingston turning out TV310 Eno's Capri before RO751 Mallo (Capri) buried FS186 Simon Carlton hard into the side of BZ200 Noon's Bluebird and the lively Kingston planted BA831 Stu Burns' Mk3 backwards into the wall. MIB82 Edward Fothergill (Riva Estate) then did a complete roll on the home straight as TW96 Wayne Davies buried DB62 Kingston into RO751 Mallo's Capri before spinning BZ551 Moley. TV310 Eno removed TB622 Andy Thacker as RR67 Sparky did the same to M880 Naisy (Sapphire) with PA234 Darryl Edwards seeing the race out by burying SB450 Glyn Platts into the dead car of DB62 Kingston, while OC465 Havoc got on with the winning this time.
Result: OC465 John Healey, TB148 Ian Redden, BA811 Carl Burns, C461 Nathan Knowles, RR67 Mark Whittaker, C65 Richard Giddens, TB622 Andy Thacker, FT91 Dave Barwick, FT564 Mark Cooper, PA757 Mark Roberts
32 cars out for the fifth and final heat with Buxton's 295 Graham Heywood joined at the front by RO372 Martin Scully. The race didn't last long before C60 Wayne French and MIB285 Darren Lewis performed a spectacular roll on the home straight with help from CC601 Usha and TW118 Jason Anslow, bringing the reds out as there was some concern for French, but he was fine. DA167 Paul Motherwell removed W251 Ade Phillips (Capri) as we got away again, with CC601 Usha taking out TV266 Big Al and RO30 Dougie Roberts taking BF744 Muppet in before RS737 Ian Crandon's Capri shed a wheel to bring out the reds although not before CC54 Bandit buried JD103 Lee Bugler into the SA293 Paul Ashley car and took a shot from CC601 Usha as a result. BX295 Graham Heywood took the win on the road with the main action being WB384 Goldie's walling of RS377 Mark Brennan, but Heywood failed post race scrutineering and that gave WB17 Nick Sweet the win from RO372 Scully.
Result: WB17 Nick Sweet, RO372 Martin Scully, W44 Dave Burrows, BB104 Mick Siddalls, BB142 John Kavanagh, TW118 Jason Anslow, CC54 Richard Hayward, C6 Mark Holdsworth, BF71 Jenny Holliday, DA167 Paul Motherwell
The first semi final had a grid of just over 40 cars, with DB500 Chris Key rolling his Bluebird off the banking before FS303 Brian Cope took a T-bone from the SB84 Bluebird. BZ211 Red Hot Barry gave W218 Lee Clelland a head on before taking one over the front wheel from SB84, then W77 Phil Rogers buried BA139 Dave Ball's Estate. BZ551 Moley took the chance to wall the leading SA409 Carlos who was then turned round by JD141 Carwash to hand the lead to BX51 Wusty who went on to win from TW118 Jason Anslow.
Result: BX51 John Worstencroft, TW118 Jason Anslow, DA236 Andy Robinson, JD141 Carson Cooper
The second semi had around 46 machines on track and it began badly for OC342 Potty as he was walled by BB179 Cool's Bluebird, while C6 Mark Holdsworth removed FT499 Matt Frost and M122 Turk fired hard up the back ofJD282 Uglee's Estate with CC40 Kitch blasting RO30 Dougie Roberts after the Roosecote man had done WA443 Dave Harvey. FT91 Bart then buried RS32 Ian Taylor's Estate into the pile with team mate FT564 Mark Cooper firing CC54 Bandit and RS377 Mark Brennan in at speed too, then WA90 Grippa blasted CC7 Mark Lester before the reds came out for WA443 Harvey who'd copped one in the driver's door but was fortunately able to limp to the safety of the infield. On the restart, TB47 Andy Davies (Capri) led BB179 Cool and C164 Chas Knowles away, PA757 Mark Roberts putting himself in trying to remove C164 Knowles while RO156 Anorak did JD121 Pete Salter hard with NS169 Smelly clashing with Knowles and looking to be in a bit of trouble, so we had a red flag and a declared race in favour of 47 Davies.

Next up was the B-Final which was split into two races as so many cars wanted to take part, around 36 contesting part one which started with SB350 Dan Peel (Riva Estate) putting W77 Phil Rogers in as HJ165 Curbo went in by the startline and took a massive T-bone from TV310 Eno, while TB18 Rob Burbridge was taken out by M880 Naisy. SB451 Will Blackwell gave BZ201 Wol a head on and OC425 Sonic attacked FT91 Bart but went round himself as a result, then TW96 Wayne Davies put TV410 Rugrat backwards into the wall on his way to second place behind FT119 Davey Cox with FT91 Bart in third. We went into the DD with BB183 Scott Banton blasting SB350 Dan Peel and TV214 Butch coming under fire from BX470 Pete Corbett and OC425 Sonic, while FT91 Bart whacked TV310 Eno before the reds came out for SB350 Peel who looked to be in trouble after taking several hits. Once that was sorted, C60 Wayne French jacked down TV410 Rugrat and FT91 Bart whacked M152 Grumpy over the rear wheel before taking one from HJ98 Alan Beamon, with TV214 Butch T-boning Beamon and TW96 Wayne Davies hammering M152 Grumpy, before FT91 Bart shared a big head on with MIB83 Lloyd Isherwood and TW96 Davies fired up the back of Isherwood as did C60 Ferret. Davies and Isherwood then met head on with Ferret finishing Davies to take the honours although the 83 car then fired up again for a last head on.
Result: FT119 Davey Cox, TW96 Wayne Davies, FT91 Dave Barwick, BX470 Pete Corbett, OC425 Pat McPhilimey, C60 Wayne French, TV310 John Nicholson, TV214 Will Walmesley, DD C60 Wayne French
The second B-Final also had around 36 cars, TW14 Nigel Jones went round and took a head on from WB37 Fizz with BZ220 Trotter blasting the Wild Boy as DA99 Scott Hill walled HJ2 Andrew Wren. RS723 Marie Smith came under fire from FT564 Mark Cooper and DA52 Baden Powell buried FT499 Frosty into DA132 Chris Cullum who also took a shot from RO76 Dodgy, while BZ211 Red Hot Barry whacked W251 Ade Phillips who replied with a head on. DA52 Powell was removed from the lead with WB262 Buster taking over and he took the flag ahead of team mate WB384 Goldie as RO751 Mallo did DA162 Brett Fiddler before taking a shot from RS737 Ian Crandon. The DD saw NS688 Wayne Morphet fire into RS32 Pacman and OC342 Potty did FS272 Gazza with TB622 Mr T giving RS737 Crandon a head on, then WB384 Goldie buried RO76 Dodgy and met PA376 Damon Moon head on before TV214 Butch used the FSO to jack RS723 Marie Smith and then hammered SA11 Darren Race after the TSB man had met M155 Mr Nervous head on. W251 Phillips fired into RO751 Mallo before taking a big T-bone from FS272 Gazza's Mk3, the Warrior hit back with a similar shot but then took a couple of hits from WB262 Buster, with proceedings then coming to an abrupt end as Gazza's motor sparked up to bring out the reds with W251 Phillips given the verdict.
Result: WB262 Buster Godden, WB384 John Golden, BF744 Mark Curtis, DA99 Scott Hill, RO76 Steve Waite, BB222 Matt Logan, RS32 Ian Taylor, NS688 Wayne Morphet, BA800 Rob Burns, OC342 Stuart Phillips, DD W251 Ade Phillips
The A-Final would be decisive with the Wild Boys (33 points) just one point ahead of the Fen Tigers with T-Bone third on 24 and the Outcasts next on 23. 33 qualifiers returned and WB920 James Medley took up the running ahead of team mate WB17 Nick Sweet until TB158 Shane Davies leant Sweet into the wall. We had a stoppage but the race restarted with Davies chasing WB920 Medley, he couldn't quite get close enough to take him out despite a determined effort so Medley took the flag and celebrated with a fierce shot on OC46 Maverick to tear the back out of the Capri as we went into the DD, but it somehow kept going only to take more stick from W90 Grippa and BB104 Mick Siddalls while TB148 Shorty blasted Grippa and then jacked C65 Richard Giddens. WB17 Sweet walled OC465 Havoc and took a hit from BB104 Siddalls while DB18 Webby hit Havoc with Siddalls planting WB17 Sweet into the Demon's Cavalier, then WA90 Grippa gave BB179 Cool a big hit which was avenged by Siddalls who then turned his attention back to Sweet as RR411 Steele fired up and met OC465 Havoc head on before taking punishment from Siddalls, Havoc and Sweet, leaving the Barton Boy to pound WB17 Sweet into submission and take the win.
Result: WB920 James Medley, TB158 Shane Davies, FT22 Dave Vincent, BB104 Mick Siddalls, BF777 Trevor Luff, TB148 Ian Redden, DB18 Ian Webb, DB62 David Kingston
Once the points had been counted up, Medley's win was enough to give the Wild Boys the title for the second year in a row.
1st
Wild Boys, 49 points
2nd
T-Bone, 44 points
3rd
Fen Tigers, 44 points
(T-Bone
take second place due to having the higher placing in the A Final)
Another excellent Team Championship from a meeting which always delivers the goods, although it did lack the epic pile ups of recent years.

Barford Raceway, 9th June, National Bangers
Only
10 Bangers for a domestic session at the Barford Raceway. One visitor came
from GMP while the best of the cars were two BMW 5 series from 0 Eddie
Musgrove and 42 Neil Kitchen, 507 Guy Patrick had a Saab 900 and 26 David
Scott returned 105 Darren Briggs' Merc 250 from the 21st April meeting.
9
for the first heat and Patrick kicked the action off by putting 666 David
Armstrong in as Scott hit Musgrove and 028 Mark Thompson blasted 31 Ian
Armstrong into a marker tyre. Scott continued to put the luckless Armstrong
in before 250 Ronnie Thompson removed 42 Kitchen only to put himself in.
The recovered Kitchen then hit Scott before the latter retaliated by taking
Kitchen in on turn 2. 12 Stephen Potts ran David Armstrong in as Potts
steamed Armstrong again next time round en-route to victory from Patrick
and Scott.
Down
to 7 cars for heat 2. Patrick again kicked the action off by removing David
Armstrong before Scott took Ian Armstrong in. Potts then put both Ian Armstrong
and David Armstrong in, in one move as Scott then went off the head, taking
Kitchen in hard on turn 3 before turning it round to do the latter as I.Armstrong
attacked D.Armstrong and Kitchen then took a succesion of hits off 6 Paul
Musgrove and again Scott. Paul Musgrove motored onto the victory from David
Armstrong and Ian Armstrong.
7
again returned for a rather quiet final with Kitchen taking Ian Armstrong
out from the start, Paul Musgrove then hammered Kicthen as Guy Patrick
ran Armstrong in before the latter recovered to do Mark Thompson over the
front wheel. Patrick took the victory from Potts and Armstrong.
This
ended a poor meeting, not helped by the persistant rain all day. Lets hope
the months break for the National Bangers gives the lads time to build
and get ready some new cars after the season started to be picking up from
the 20+ car turnout of the last meeting.
A
disappointing turnout of just 29 motors for this World Championship event
at Sheffield. Some top visiting entries though with promotions being presented
from Barford, GMP, Autospeed, PRI, RDC and Incarace. Car wise we had mostly
Granadas and Jags with the pick being the XJ40 of 165 Mark Henstock.
With
the low turn out it was decided to put everyone straight through into the
World Championship race. Everyone appeared for it with 165 Hentock and
428 Grumpy being drawn on pole. 85 Shaun Barnes kicked it off with a good
follow in to 09 Psycho on turns 3-4 with the latter then recieving further
punishment from 502 Hoagy. 880 Naisy hit 88 Speedy as 162 Brett Ellacott
took 110 Maddog in. 252 Darren Askham then steamed Barnes as Psycho met
Naisy on the nose. The stationary Barnes then took a succesion of hits
off the traffic before being finished off by Henstock who delivered a good
blitz to the 85 motor. 120 Shane Brown then took Hentock in on the back
straight with a superb jacking train following. 409 Carlos Pears blitzed
Brown who was then given an almighty blitz by 200 Noon. Ellacott hit 173
Ray Sharrod as 536 Anette Nicholls took her rear wheel out after clipping
Barnes with 920 James Medley, Sharrod, 05 Carlos Perez and Ellacott then
all going in on the back straight with Medley and Sharrod catching posts
hard. 977 Paul Scothern then steamed Ellacott as Psycho hit Perez on oppo.
Perez replied with a succesion of hits to the Stinkbridge pilot only to
be taking out by 158 Shane Davies. 617 Jack Overy won after being drawn
at the back of the grid followed home by 428 Grumpy in what was a superb
championship race.
Down
to 18 starters for the World Revenge as Overy attacked Hoagy before Brown
planted Henstock into the Scotsman. 47 Andy Davies attacked Brown as Scothern
buried Maddog into the centre tyres. Andy Davies spun Noon with the latter
then taking a hit over the front wheel from 450 Glyn Platts before taking
a night finising roof bender from Grumpy. Noon emerged a little winded
but thankfully recovering minutes latter. Meanwhile on the home straight
Ellacott, Sharodd and Shane Davies all went in hard with 253 Steve Askham
then firing up the back of Grumpy after the latter had waved him in. Andy
Davies spun Askham en-route to victory.
11
cars returned for the World Masters which started with Hoagy putting Darren
Askham in who then took further punishment from Ellacott. Andy Davies fired
into 811 Pete Winter before Grumpy did the same to 724 Digger. 158 Shane
Davies then came under fire from Darren Askham with Davies also copping
a hit off Grumpy. Winter then caught a post hard on the back straight,
with the aid of Hoagy, snapping his estate well. Ellacott took the victory
as Grumpy blitzed Hoagy on the back straight and Shane Brown homed in with
the big hit to Hoagy, missed and subsequently met Shane Davies in a big
head on, wrecking their motors impressively.
This
ended an exceptionally lively meeting for the number of cars that were
on offer. It was really a case of quality not quantity with most coming
away pretty happy with a good nights racing and wrecking which you are
always guaranteed around Sheffield.
Barrow, 26th May, Unlimited Bangers
A
good turnout of 35 cars for the first in the 2002 Unlimited Series at Barrow.
Visitors came from Barford, Buxton, RDC, GMP and Warton. On the material

proceedings off by landing a blow on 416 Big Ben as 69 Smelly followed
in 147 Chris Detton and Kirkbride met 246 Flan Jnr head on. 41 Dan Steele
then attacked 305 General as Kirkbride was blitzed by the lively Smelly.
The yellows then appeared for a stray wheel with 9 motors back for the
restart. Big Ben spun 325 Demo from the off as the former was then fired
in by Moffat and 410 Rugrat met 468 Big Paul on the nose. Steele then steamed
Rugrat only to be spun out by Moffat as Boston piled into the latter pair
with Big Ben doing Boston only to be wasted well by Skyliner. With the
track now blocked a stop was called for with the race being later re-run.

as 651 Huggy also hit the former who was then done by Sausage Boy. Huggy
then piled up the back of Tomlinson as Sausage Boy ran Barnes round and
into Kong with Eno also also steaming Barnes en-route to victory in the
flying hearse.
The
re-run of heat 1 was next but only had 8 cars on track and started off
with 860 Stu Simpson hitting and spinning Rugrat in one go as Demo fired
Steele in hard before hitting and spinning Steele again when he later rejoined.
Steele also copped a steam off Skyliner as Demo took a full contact victory.
The
consolation had 9 cars and kicked off with Kirkbride hitting Turkey as
Flan Jnr did Kirkbride and Moffat spun Blower. Steele then hit Moffat before
going onto put him in hard. Moffat recovered to steam Kirkbride as the
former then copped a touch of his own medicine from Turkey. Sausage Boy
steamed the former with Turkey then turning it round to do Sausage Boy
on oppo. Steele also weighed in on Sausage Boy as Scully motored to the
victory.
The
Qualifiers only final brought out 11 cars as 155 Mr Nervous started things
off by landing a hit on Kirkbride with the latter then being followed in
by Mallo with Phillips also piling in for good measure. The recovered Kirkbride
took out Steele as Skyliner put Demo in and Mr Nervous removed Instigator.
Kirkbride was then blitzed by Steele on turns 1-2 with Demo then arriving
to steam Steele by way of revenge. Mr Nervous then steamed into Demo albeit
on the centre as Skyliner buried 146 Flan Snr into Phillips. Mallo took
out Mr Nervous who was then done over the front wheel by Eno with Instigator
then following Scully into the stationary Steele. Skyliner got the bone
in on Scully en-route to victory.
10
cars appeared for the Allcomers race and 239 Nelly hooked out Boston early
doors with Big Al also doing Boston with Nelly then copping a hit off Simspon.
Eno had Barnes out as Nelly got a pay back shot on Simpson only to be steamed
by Roberts. Boston also fired into Nelly as Roberts then blizted Demo at
the end of the home straight. Eno removed Mallo who recovered to follow
Nelly in well. Eno then got a steam in on Mallo in revenge as Barnes hit
Mallo only to put a wheel back. Barnes then waved Sausage Boy in for the
hit in which he duly obliged as Eno also hit Barnes en-route to victory.
5
returned for the DD and it kicked off with Sausage Boy meeting 414 Cleggy
head on as Turkey steamed Sausage Boy who was then done by Flan Snr as
the latter then hit Scully before doing Sausage Boy well. This just left
Scully as the last one running and he celebrated by piling into Flan hard
a succesion of times.
This
ended a lively meting with the only downer being the weather. We had some
top hits on this now renowned action track.

Batemam as Williams t-boned Jimmy Randall. Boxer Jack took the race victory
which now meant it was down to the last one running. Wadey met Boxer Jack
on the nose before the latter went onto steam Williams. Shane Davies did
Bateman head on only to cop an attack off Boxer as the latter copped a
t-bone himself off Wadey. Boxer then went in on 471 Terry Freakes before
it came down to just Wadey and Bateman which left them to engage in a head
on before a dead heat was given as a winner couldnt be found although Wadey
was running the stronnger of the two.
This
ended a lively meeting. Pretty average really but one which certainly had
its moments and produced some good wrecks, all backed up by the brilliant
Saloon Stocks to make it a good day and well worth the travel.

and Steele being given off as the winner for his third win of the night
from Mallo and Potter.
This
ended a good meeting with the first race being a cracker.

cars, spread across 5 teams for Milloms annual 2 Litre Banger team meeting
at the Redhills Raceway. Visitors came from Warton and Barrow while car
wise we had two Vole 240 Estates in the hands of RR441 Burnsy and HH60
Rob Walker, a Mazda 626 from HH33 Lee Mackerth, a Mazda 929 Estate from
OS14 Sausage Boy which just left the Members Crew trio of 541 Stephen Metcalfe,
540 Thomas Metcalfe and 98 Michael Wilson who were in a Nissan Sylvia,
Renault 25 and a Celica respectively, the latter thought to be one of the
first to be raced. Also must mention, good to see 917 Derek Jones back
out after his nasty incident at Millom ealier in the season that has kept
him out of action up till now.
All
cars out for heat 1 and Thomas Metcalfe was on the case early as he landed
hits on OS368 Ian Moulton and RR478 Chucker as the luckless Chucker was
also crashed by NS680 Stu Davies. NS87 Steven Spencer then went into the
infield marker tyres unaided before HH3 Colin Johnstone fired Jones into
the infield tyres. OS557 Drew Turner then took out Stephen Metcalfe as
MC90 Craig Lomas also hit Jones and Moulton did the same to Spencer. Burnsey
removed Sausage Boy as Mackerth spun Chucker. Burnsey then spun Spencer
and Mackerth only to himself up the banking after spinning the latter.
Sausage Boy the weighed into Lomas as the former then continued to steam
Lomas before copping the turn around treatment himself from a recovered
Lomas by way of revenge. NS88 Wayne Morphet then hooked out Lomas as Mackerth
put Wilson up the banking before carrying onto spin Sausage Boy. RR81 Benno
took the win.

less for heat 2 with OS146 Flan getting us underway early by getting rid
of Stephen Metcalfe before Burnsy followed Thomas Metclafe in on turns
3-4. Sausage Boy then piled into Burnsey which just left Spencer to blitz
Burnsey with a great length of the straight shot. The reds appeared to
check on Burnsey and it wasnt long before the 10 car restart was underway.
S.Metcalfe spun Davies before the recovered Metcalfe removed Flan from
the running. Chucker hit Sausage Boy as Davies then removed the 929 Estate.
RR11 Jeff Platt then turned around the unlucky Sausage Boy as Turner spun
Benno only to put himself up the banking. Morphet took a rare victory.
Turner
kicked off the 14 car final by turning Burnsey round as Benno spun Turner
into the banking by way of revenge as Benno then copped one over the back
wheel from Sausage Boy before Lomas spun Chucker and Flan followed in Stephen
Metcalfe. Turner then removed Burnsey before going onto put Benno up the
banking going into turn 1. Sausage Boy then turned it round to take out
Platt on oppo, ripping out his rear wheel. Sausage Boy then also got a
hit in on Burnsey whilst still on oppo as Wilson was given the win.
There
was points on the DD so 12 cars returned for it with action from the off
as Flan buried Burnsey into the infield marker tyres with the latter then
copping a head on from Jones. Stephen Metcalfe then buried Sausage Boy
into the banking under the starters rostrum with Benno then steaming Metcalfe
as Turner went in on Benno. It then came down to 557 Turner, 88 Morphet
and 87 Spencer with Turner spinning Morphet which left him wide open for
a big hit over the back wheel from Spencer. Morphet then came round the
wrong way to finish Spencer with a big head on before reversing back out
and into Metcalfle to take the win.
The
winners were then given off as:-

little disappointing turn out of around 30 cars for Sheffields annual Battle
of Britain 6-aside team meeting. Visitors came from the North West(Team
V) and South West which included long travellers BA551 Moley and BB211
Red Hot Barry. Material came in the shape of 6 Jags from BA54 Willis, ST163
Jeremy Nicholls, ST172 Andy Bonser, ST811 Pete Winter, TV684 Alan Morphet
and TV688 Wayne Morphet. CA5 Dave Eccles provided a Laurel, TV266 Big Al
supplied a Cedric and running mate TV239 Nelly brought along a Mk1. Car
of the meeting though was CA450 Glyn Platts smart Mk1 Coupe.
Heat
1 had 17 starters and the Commom Crushers versus Blooz Boyz war kicked
off early with CA451 Willie Blackwell weighing into BB205 5 Eyes. CA407
Wack then blitzed the former well, finishing his day before Willis steamed
Wack by way of revenge. Willis then copped a blasting off Platts before
CB06 Shakey was wasted on turn 1 by persons unseen. CA619 Tommo steamed
TV690 Winkie as CB455 Rick Finney hit Moley only to cop one himself from
ST151 Justin Woolner. Al Morphet took a good win for Team V.
Down
to 13 cars for heat 2 with CB361 Rob Milner putting BB220 Dave Bale in
early doors only to cop a steam from Red Hot Barry. Nelly put himself in
before Eccles steamed Bale. Red Hot Barry got revenge on Eccles by way
of a steam before Bale was well blitzed by Al Morphet. Big Al removed RHB
before putting himself in a couple of laps later. Winter took the win for
the Steam Team.
Platts
spun BA173 Ray Sharrod as heat 3 got underway with Wack then hitting ST536
Annette Nicholls only to cop a hit off Willis. Annette was then black flagged
for attacking Wack on the centre but not before she managed to get a hit
in on BB201 Wol. The latter was then steamed by Wayne Morphet as brother
Alan did Wol head on. W.Morphet steamed Wol next time round as Platts went
in unaided. BA97 Dave Allen then attacked Platts before Sharrod landed
a hit on Platts as Moley arrived on the scene to steam Platts. Winter again
took the chequered.
17
cars returned for the all in final which started off with Wack hitting
Sharrod before the latter retaliated by hitting Wack. Allen then gave Blackwell
the turn around treatment before W.Morphet met Willis in a meaty head on
which snapped the formers Jag. Allen removed Nelly before carrying
on give Bonser the same treatment. BA200 Noon then fired up the back of
Bonser before fencing him, all in one move as Moley got rid of Nelly. Woolner
steamed Willis and BA617 Jack Overy sent Bonser spinning en-route to victory
as on the run down lap Winter followed Noon in well on turns 1-2 as Red
Hot Barry arrived to steam Winter before the former copped a blitzing from
Woolner.
The
winners were announced after this with Team V in third place, Blooz Boyz
A in second but this years winners being the Steam Team.
Only
the DD left now and 10 cars made it back out on track with Bale on the
case early by hitting Tommo only to cop a roof bender from Nelly with the
latter then copping one up the chuff from Winter. Moley steamed Milner
before going onto give Wack the same treatment as Finney then came round
to meet Moley in a big head on. Eccles got a hit in on Moley also as Winter
hit Eccles. This just left Winter and Finney to meet in a big head on,
on the back straight in which no one backed off. Platts was the last one
running but had been stationary too long, Finney had recieved outside assistance
so the win was given to Winter.
This
ended a good meeting with the poor turn out being more than made up for
with some brilliant wrecking on track.
A
good entry of around 90 motors for this years World Cup at the Cowdenbeath
'Racewall'. Visitors came from all over the UK including PRI, RDC, Trackstar,
Autospeed, Buxton, Spedeworth, Incarace, Warton and Barford. Some top machinery
was on show including 6 Mk1s from defending champ 158 Shane Davies, 277
Gary Staples, 300 Dan Kirkbride, 207 John Randall, 420 Neal Wells and 007
Dangerous Dill. 31 Stevie Carson provided a Mk2 Limo while 47 Andy Davies
had a Mk1 Coupe. 96 William Mitchell had a Mazda 929 Estate. 3 Jags were
present in the hands of 911 Chris Harkness, 537 Bruno who had an XJS and
211 Red Hot Barry with an XJ Coupe. 243 Doug had the only Crown of the
meeting while long distance traveller 924 Matt Millen provided a Rover
P5. The Mob were present with the material again as 880 Naisy had a Humber
Hawk, 252 McWibbs had a 4R, 108 Tangoman a DS420 Limo plus material man
152 James Dillon in a Caddy Fleetwood Limo. This just left another Yank
specialist 461 Singy in a superb 1964 Galaxy.
25
cars for the first last chance qualifier heat which started with a large
pile up on turn 4 which involved 274 Giggler, 72 Steve Macklin, 350 Dan
Peel, 150 Leon Pelc and 239 Nelly to name but a few! Naisy did 11 Darren
Race on the nose as 122 Turk steamed the luckless Race before Dangerous
Dill delivered a large t-bone to Naisys Hawk. Dill copped a steam off 135
for his troubles before the yellows came out to clear the track. Down to
11 crs for the re-start and 510 The Ghost got us underway by spinning 715
Mick Prince before 53 Phil Stevens buried 148 Mr Honest in an infield marker
tyre as the latter then copped one on the nose from 431 Deano. 06 Zippy
spun Brunos XJS going into the pit bend only to climb the wall and roll
bringing out the yellows once more. 10 for the restart with Stevens leading
them off. Ghost hit 149 Beany over the front wheel as Bruno steamed Mitchell
well as Stevens stayed out front for the win as on the run down lap Mitchell
took another two big packages from Bruno and Beany to finish his estate.
Down
to 19 cars for the second and last, last chance qualifier. Singy powerded
his Yank hard head on style into 157 Tam Sim at the end of the home straight
as Neal Wells turned 220 Dave Bale round before Red Hot Barry hit 3 Gary
Doyle and Staples followed in 87. 410 Rugrat hit Staples only to put himself
in as a result as Wells removed 170 Kenny McGeechan. Staples then carried
onto hit 325 Demo as McGeechan rolled it on the home straight to bring
out the reds and an end to the race. Dan Kirkbride being the one in the
lead at the time.
The
big race was up next and after a grid was drawn 155 Mr Nervous had taken
pole 162 Brett Ellacott alongside him. A full grid of 42 cars lined up
and there was action from the off with a large pile up on the back straight
in which defending champ Shane Davies was taken out. Dillon turned his
big Yank round to steam 49 Billy King as 47 Davies hit 502 Hoagy over the
back wheel. Hoagy got revenge on Davies as he steamed him on oppo with
Deano, Shane Davies, 310 Eno, 428 Grumpy, 331 Boxer Jack, 51 Wusty, 294
Nigel Ashley all caught up in the pile up. Wusty and 430 Robert Moffat
had both been given large roof benders by persons unseen as the reds then
came out to clear the track and a complete re-start was ordered. Down to
20 for the restart and Hoagy got us underway by weighing into 293 Paul
Ashley as 726 Retard Roy did 70 Si Needle. The track was again blocked
at the entrance to turn 3 and Ellacott went in on Eno hard as 90 Rob Baker
blitzed 450 Glyn Platts, Mr Nervous piled in and Dillon blitzed 200 Noon
well. Retard then turned it round to meet King head on, reversing out and
having another go before 550 Strpit steamed King but paid for it as he
copped the same treatment off Boxer Jack. Stripit and Boxer Jack then met
in head on mode as Retard had another couple of goes at King as the yellows
came out again to clear the track. Only 7 made the restart which started
with Boxer Jack removing Hoagy as the leading 287 Gizmo took Matt Millen
in, only to put himeslf in as a result and put himself out of the lead.
Millen then did Hoagy on oppo as a great battle for the lead began with
the leading 40 Lester Freestone back tyres smoking and slowing him down.
Second placed man Gizmo was catching and had caught enough for a last bend
lunge. Gizmo made contact and managed to spin Freestone only to spin himself
as well. Gizmo was the first to react and got it into reverse to reverse
up the home staright and across the line to take the win in a great battle.
The
next race was supposed to be a 5 lap dash into DD but the drivers were
told on the grid it was just a DD. 56 cars appeared with another large
pile up on turn 3 in which Johnstone rolled at the front of it, Bale jacked
Tangoman and Stevens did 201 Wol while elsewhere 551 Moley blitzed Rugrat
well and 85 Shaun Barnes buried himeslf into the pile up. Turk and Retard
were also involved as Moley then arrived to deliver a good blitz to Barnes
. 428 Grumpy was another to go in as 67 Sparky steamed Doug and Boxer Jack,
Eno, Mr Nervous and 731 Scott Douglas all battled together. It then came
down to Shane Davies and Douglas who both met in a big head on, on the
home straight with only Shane backing off to take the win.
This
ended a good meeting, with some top hits and good racing but some drivers
were left thinking that they could have had another race. Our congratulations
go to 287 Paul Totham on taking a great win in the main race.
Many
Thanks to Shaun Barnes for my transport upto Cowdenbeath.
Another
poor showing of just 12 cars for Barfords season meeting of the season.
No real visitors but car wise 49 Ron Fulbirg returned 8 Adrian Cranns Mk3
Cortina from the previous meeting while 105 Darren Briggs had a Merc 250.
All
cars out for heat 1 and 111 Martin James got us underway by taking 6 Paul
Musgrove in as 250 Stane fired Fulbirg in before the recovered Musgrove
also did the luckless Fulbirg. 0 Eddie Musgrove put James in while 85 Shaun
Barnes fired 29 Wesley Moan over the centre only to cop a hit off Stane.
Barnes avenge the hit by putting the former in before 25 Les Manning hit
Moan. Stane also weighed in on Moan as P.Musgrove motored to the win.
Down
to 10 cars for heat 2 which started with Eddie Musgrove running brother
Paul Musgrove in before 26 David Scott steamed James well as E.Musgrove
took Moan in hard only to put hmself in as a result. Stane then spun Moan
before 12 Stephen Potts fired the unlucky Moan in. Manning lost it on the
last lap to hand the win to Briggs.
6
cars for the final and Stane kicked it off well by following in Fulbirg
as Scott removed P.Musgrove and Stane steamed Potts on the back straight.
Briggs kept out of trouble to take the win.
Only
7 cars for the Grand National but it was one of the best races of the day!
Stane started us off by running Potts in before the latter copped as steam
from Scott. Stane then turned it round to do P.Musgrove DSU, brother E.Musgrove
got some revenge on Stane by way of a t-bone only to cop a steam himself
from Manning. P.Musgrove somehow got it going again and as the only car
left running he was awarded the win.
This
ended another good entertaining meeting for the number of cars present.
If only a few more cars could show up it would promise good meetings each
week.
This
ended an only OK meeting but one which could have been a lot better had
there been a good turn out of cars as this track promises some good action.
A
disapointing turn out of just 13 Bangers for Barrows first meeting of the
season.
No
real visitors but car wise we had a BMW, 3 Sierras, a Saab 900, 2
Cortinas,
1 Capri, 2 Volvos, a Mk3 Granada, a first for Barrow in the shape
of
an Alfa Romeo 33 Estate from 235 Bulldog and car of the meeting from 42
Donkey
with a Carina Deluxe Estate.
All
cars in for heat 1 and 666 Graham Charnley started proceedings off by
firing
291 F.Boy esq' in. 10 Rugrat then removed 200 Gareth Turner in the
BMW
before 175 Mallo did the same to Charnley. A recovered Turner then
hooked
out Donkey only to put himself into 36 Turkey as a result. 41 Dan
Steele
then spun Bulldog and Turner in quick succesion before 477 Rob Bell
in
the Saab fired 143 Sam Begley in. 231 Grandad then gave Donkey the turn
around
treatment before picking up a limping Bulldog as Steele then latched
onto
Grandad and all three went in with Bulldog getting fired into the
stationary
Begley as a result. 52 Boozie and Mallo then combined to spin
Steele
who was then pounded further by Grandad. The recovered Steele then
weighed
in on Bell but it was not enough to deny the latter victory from
Boozie
and Steele.
Down
to 9 cars for heat 2 which started with Charnley hitting and spinning
Mallo
in one move before the former copped a hit off Donkey for his
troubles.
Steele then spun the 666 Sierra as Mallo fired Donkey in. Steele
then
jacked and followed in Turkey in one move before the latter continued
round
the fence and into F.Boy esq' over the front wheel. Grandad took the
victory
from Steele and Charnley.
10
for the final and as it started Turkey applied the brakes in front of
Steele
who jacked him only for Donkey to pile up the former. Grandad put
Turner
in before the latter copped one on the nose from Donkey. Steele
steamed
Grandad on the centre before copping the same treatment from Mallo
in
revenge. Turkey then did Donkey head on while Bell took his second win
of
the
day with Steele in second as the latter steamed Mallo well on the
run-down
lap.
Only
3 for the DD and after a few laps racing Rugrat came off the centre in
front
of Charnley who obliged with one up the chuff. Steele then did a
massive
length of the straight t-bone on Rugrat before meeting Charnley in a
big
head on, with only Steele backing off to take the win.
This
ended a good meeting showing that even with a low turn out this track
can
still produce good action.
Thanks
to Paul Linford and Des Penny for my Transport
A
good although rather disappointing 50 car entry for Barrows Open Unlimited
considering there were 70+ booked in, maybe the terrible weather conditions
something to do with the turn out....? Visitors came from Barford, GMP,
Trackstar, RDC, Incarace, Warton, Startrax and Millom. On with the material
and best of the jags were 684 Alan Morphets returned Firecracker Mk7, 477
Skyliners XJ40, 666 Graham Charnleys XJS and 134 Doug Behagg's 420g. There
were Crowns for 14 Sausage Boy, 52 Boozie and 150 Leon Pelc. Two Mk2 limos
came from 59 Mark Blower and team mate 300 Dan Kirkbride. Two P4's came
from 331 Jay Roberts and 325 Demo. 41 Dan Steele provided a smart Mk2 Coupe
while the sole Yank came from 707 Lee Tomlinson who had a Chevy Caprice
Classic. 152 James Dillon had a smart DS420 limo but car of the meeting
had to be 05 Carlos Perez's Roller.
On
with the racing and only 15 cars appeared for heat 1. Startrax visitor
132 Chris Callum kicked off proceedings by following in Kirkbrides limo.
A pile up then formed on turn 4 in which a recovered Kirkbride jacked Dillon's
DS.139 Dinger t-boned 252 McWibbs before 651 Huggy jacked 156 Anorak. Skyliner
then went in on Callums estate, wasting it impressively in the process.
Dinger then weighed in on Skyliner only to cop a hit of 878 Remeo Jalbert
for his troubles. Jalbert himself then copped a steam off 10 Rugrat. McWibbs
then went off the head as he pulled out of the pile up to go on oppo and
meet 16 Pob in a massive head on turn 3. As the track was totally blocked
with the pile up the reds came out and the race declared. No winner was
given.
3
more for heat 2 and it started with 249 Wardy pushing 917 Never Say Die
over the infield tyres and onto the infield. 06 Craig Robertson then did
Dan Steele only to cop a hit off Charnley as Sausage Boy hit 3. Steele
got a revenge steam on Robertson as Never Say Die removed 143 Sam Begley.
Sausage Boy then fired Morphet into 82 as the former then turned it and
went on oppo to meet the winning Steele head on. Sausage Boy steamed Steele
as the former copped a hit off Robertson. No other cars were running now
so it was decided to take the winner from the last completed lap which
was Steele.
Perez
was clearly a maked man in his Roller in the 16 car heat 3 as from the
off 30 Dougie Roberts followed him in and 307 Butch also ran him in, both
incidents happening on turns 3-4. Demo then took 270 Rog in as Carlos was
hit again, this time by 36 Turkey before 372 Scully picked the Roller up
and buried him into Pelc's stranded motor t-bone style. This just left
Turkey to jack Perez impressively as the yellows then came out to check
on Pelc who was thankfully OK after taking a large one through the doors.
This just left 3 for the re-start, only action being Invader 514 Paul Woods
running Blowers limo in as 431 Dean Steele took the win.
17
starters for the 1st Consi which was begun by Begley hitting Boozie over
the front wheel. Butch then inverted by the pit gate, bringing out the
yellows. 513 Dave Cuthbet got the re-start underway by following in 108
Tangoman. 147 Chris Detton then put 0 Paul Musgrove in as the latter then
copped a head on off Begley. 82 then received a package from Never Say
Die as the latter then went onto steam the luckless Musgrove. Detton got
on with the winning.
Skyliner
got the poorly supported 9 car 2nd Consi underway by attacking 550 Stripit
as 264 Waldo blasted 999 Scott Hill and Huggy then wound out Waldo who
was then steamed by 155 Mr Nervous which left the former strandard over
the middle of the track which left him to receive two big hits from Hill
and Huggy. Mr Nervous then steamed Hill before Tomlinson followed Charnley
in well on turn 2 as the latter then copped a portion of t-bone from Nervous.
Nervous then went for the leading Stripit on the last lap but missed which
left Stripit to take the win.
11
made the A final which was started by Woods attacking 3. Tomlinson then
pulled off a massive follow in on Dan Steele on turn 3, getting the latter
airbourne on impact. Sausage Boy then felt the force of Deano as Dinger
hit Woods only to cop the same treatment off Charnley. Stripit then blasted
Charnley as Deano fired Blower in. No further action followed with Scully
taking the win.
There
only seemed to be 5 ready for the B final so as we were drenched through
we decided to call it a day and left for home. Well done to all the drivers
in braving the dreadful conditions on a day which could have been even
better had the other 20+ drivers turned up. Some good wrecking and racing
went in but I think the conditions just got the better of everyone in the
end.
Man of the meeting: I've gone for 707 Lee Tomlinson in this as his Yank was really on song and he pulled off two good follow in's, the latter being just about hit of the day on 41 Dan Steele.
Thanks
to Trev Whelan for the following DD report and final stagings. Visit his
site at http://www.roosecote-raceway.co.uk/
DD
saw eight cars return. Including the much worked on roller of 05. 14 and
431 renewed their battle from the A final while 707 went on oppo finding
his way into a 3 car pile up on turn 4. 431 having missed his chance with
14 came in for a steam on the 707 yank.14 was quick to follow in with a
good shot to the back of 431. 14 backed out and down the straight not seeing
the roller homing in on him. Carlos gave 14 a teeth chatterer which finished
off the crown. 05 did half a lap on oppo before Tango gestured him in through
the Passenger side. Carlos duly obliged with a solid Bone.

A
great turn out of around 170 motors for this years Icebreaker on the Kings
Lynn shale after the change from the usual event at Swaffham. Visitors
came from all over Europe including Scotland and Belguim.
Top
of the 21 Jags that were present was GL336 Smiffy's returned XJS. 4 Crowns
were present in the hands of TA617 Jack Overy, TB120 Shane Brown, AM726
Retard Roy, TL30 Wayne Rowland. Mk1's for MT569 Lenny Brinckley, TA97 Alge,
TL322 Rolly and MR418 Hitman Harris while TP731 Steve Wilkinson had the
sole Mk3 Granny. CC23 Werner Walters had a LHD Mk2. Mk2 Minsters for JS77
Chris Murfin and DN128 Joe Warner while continental BA60 Terminator brought
a 6 door Mk2 Granada limo. DI557 Paranoid had a Laurel, TB33 Magic supplied
a Nissan 300c and BY342 Muscles brought a Datsun 260c. Top of the
Voles was CA412 Danny Sharmans 164. Team mate BYRubble had a smart Mk1
Coupe and BC299 Steve Lee had a DS420 Hearse. TS521 Ash Riley had a Merc
450. 116 Mark Want had a used Westy and 822 Nicko returned his Zil Limo.
TL738 Elliott Dobson returned his Nutcracker Roller while NM41 Dibble had
a 4 Litre R and Irishman DN357 Carl McClure had a fresh P5 who also had
a Pontiac Firebird which was unfortunatly a Non-runner. More Yanks came
from TS421 Nutty Nige with a Ford Fairline, TC6 Mark Holdsworth had a Lincoln
Continental, YS80 Jack Foster supplied a Caddy Fleetwood while BF180 Evert
Dijk and HA274 Giggler both had Chevy Monte Carlo's. This just leaves BL111
Glen Peetermanns with a superb Caddy Fleetwood Hearse.
On
with the racing and the 39 car first heat began with 61 hitting JS141 Mark
Freeman. A large pile up formed at the end of the home straight in which,
BA69 Frankie Whitelock and ST811 Pete Winter went into, the latter getting
his estate jacked down by Giggler. HA312 Turbo Tom then went in and was
steamed before ST172 Andrew Bonsor was blitzed superbly and BB551 Moley
blitzed TP112 Steve Hoppe. The track was completely blocked so the reds
came out for a complete re-start. 15 made the restart and Whitelock started
things off by hitting TB416 Mark Smith before TB332 Reedy spun MR49 Billy
King. King recovered only to be spun again, this time by Smith before Reedy
removed Moley. Brown hit BA190 Hunter then carried onto jack AH610 Robert
Firmager. Hunter got revenge on Brown by way of jacking before 789 motored
to the win.
A
better grid of 44 cars appeared for heat 2 and Peetermanns in the Caddy
hearse started things off by steaming 822. BY428 Grumpy piled into the
hearse before Holdsworth went in which started another large pile up at
the end of the home straight. NM102 Darren Marshall was blitzed by persons
unseen. Want piled in and was jacked by HH117 Tony Green who was in turn
blitzed by CA715 Joe Murkin. 830 jacked jacked the former who then had
his estate wasted impressively by Foster's Yank. Sharman then landed a
hit on Murkin. 530 went in and was steamed by DN164 Paul Dolman who was
in turn given a massive shot by Mucsles leaving his back wheels well up
in the air. Again the reds came out, leaving only 12 for the restart. Elliott
started proceedings off by hitting RB650 Mark Smith before TS169 Jason
Thompson did likewise to Holdsworths Yank. AH917 John Millen went in on

This ended a cracking meeting with some top hits all day through. The move to Kings Lynn was maybe a good one and as long as its dry will provide a good track for future meetings here.
N-North S-South
Just
about a full turn out of both sides for this years Civil War at Hednesford
Raceway. No major no-shows as the south tried to redeem themselves from
the two previous years defeats. Most would have banked on the south to
do it this year with the quality team that they had esembled.
On
with the material. No one dared to be different in the metros but in the
Infantry division there were Mk3 Tinas for N51 Wusty, N252 McWibbs S702
James Dodge and 40 Kitch. N318 Wilf Speak had car of the division with
his Toyota Corena. Onto the Tanks and there were loads of Jags but pick
of the bunch was S169 Jason Thompsons 420G, N591 Simon Ballard and XJS.
Crowns for S60 Kev Camden, S283 Bryan Webb, N384 Goldie and S764 Steve
Spall. Pick of the Granadas were the Mk1s of N401 Psycho and N796 Dave
Steeds while N22 Dave Vincent provided a Mk2 Limo. There were 7 Yanks including
S548 Kev Uttings Lincoln Continental and 142 Kavs rated Caddy Fleetwood
Limo. This left just N251 Ade Phillips rated Jenson Interceptor.
On
with the racing and N590 got the 31 car Metro Heat 1 underway by hitting
S312 Greig Cheeseman. N36 Turkey then hit S114 Glen Beevis before N684
Alan Morphet spun Webb and S57 Basher Broad followed in N59 Brian Heywood.
Broad copped a hit off N74 Mark Shaw for his troubles while S959 Aaron
Keoghan sent N70 Si Needle spinning. Beevis steamed N36 Turkey with the
latter also copping a head on off S551 Moley. A recovered Turkey then had
S363 James Bulley on his case before the latter removed N666 Dan Lucas.
S404 Rob Mills gave 14 Sausage Boy a rated steaming as 236 Andy Robinson
took the first win for the north.
The
first heat of the Infantry division had 36 cars and got underway with Kitch
spinning S201 John Dodge before S264 Mark Welland blitzed S28 John Collier
on the East Bend. A recovered Dodge spun Wusty, only to cop a hit off N48.
S30 Steve Mayes fired N007 Dill onto the centre before N272 Gary Murrell
got revenge by also taking Mayes into the centre. The former then copped
a hit off S185 Paul King. N213 Woka took out the former before Dill followed
in S380 Trevor Wright. Dill then copped a steam off S702 James Dodge before
S252 Bad Luck Barry came under attack from a succession of Woka and N36
Joe Baxtor. N340 Jon Atkinson followed S348 Mushy in well before the latter
copped a removal from S300 Jon Ayles. Kitch hit Mayes as S342 Mucles did
the same to Murrell. The latter then copped a blitzing off N269 Popeye
as S207 John Randall took victory for the south.
The
first instalment off the Tanks had 36 cars on grid and N83 Lloyd Isherwood
got things underway by weighing in on S91 Bart. A large pile up formed
on turns 3-4 in which N141 Dan Steele followed in persons unseen and S274
Reuben Symonds steamed Goldie. Follow in off the day then came from S36
Pip Williams as he buried N431 Dean Steele into the pile up. There was
now a complete restart as elsewhere S617 Dave Ball had taken massive t-bone.
20 cars made the restart and from the off S77 Darron Austin removed Goldie
before S355 Mark Simmonds did the same to N690 Winkie and N6 Mark Holdsworth
steamed S428 Grumpy. Camden then blitzed Goldie on the home straight bringing
out the yellows as the latter was in trouble. Hope your better now John.
Down to 15 for the restart which started with N60 Ferret hitting S541 Luke
Parfitt. Winkie then steamed S149 Martin Ford before the the former then
went head to head with Austin. S670 Tricky put Holdsworth in as N45 Simon
Tabinor spun Grumpy and the latter also copped a hit off 401 Psycho. Ferret
also put a hit in on Grumpy before Symonds lunged at the Psycho but totally
missed and went flying into his own team mate, the already parked up Ford,
head on. The rapid S162 Brett Ellacott took the victory.
At
this stage after the first heats were completed, the South held a good
advantage over the North with them on 360 and the North on 250.
Heat
2 for the Metros had 30 starters and Webb was put in early doors by persons
unseen before another unknown driver rolled by the pit gate bringing out
the yellows. Credit to Bulley for shielding him. Broad got the restart
underway by hitting N101 Davy Evans before Ferrett put S46 Maverick in
and Al Morphet spun S247 Butty. The latter then copped one on the nose
from N221 Gary Allsopp as Sausage Boy blitzed Webb. N688 Wayne Morphet
weighed in on S79 Adrian Clifton before the latter copped one in the passenger
side doors from N54 Bandit. Mills jacked N407 Wak before Bulley hit Sausage
Boy spectacularly, going airborne as he hit him. Lucas took the win for
the North.
Infantry
heat 2 had 30 cars and started with a big pile up on the West Bend. Loads
were flying in including N390 Unsy, Wusty and S53 Phil Stevens. S5 Mark
Kelly jacked Woka as Maverick steamed N38 Alan Huckle before the former
was wasted well by persons unseen. Stevens then gave N75 The Menace
the bone as N110 Nogger got revenge on Stevens by way of a jacking. McWibbs
then felt the force of Symonds as N118 and Nogger both tried to stop S372
Scully getting to the flag. That they did but the South still managed to
take victory thanks to S823 Mick Murrell.
Tanks
heat 2 had 34 starters and kicked off with a big pile up, again on the
West Bend. Drivers piling in included S277 Mr Perv and N09 Psycho as N209
Animal was steamed by persons unseen. S151 Justin Woolner gave N451 Willie
Blackwell a rated blitzing on the entrance to turn 3. 09 Psycho buried
himself up the back of 584 Mark Harding with a rated shot. N409 Carlos
Pears steamed Austin before N601 Usha turned it round to have a big head
on with S548 Kevin Utting. The yellows then came out and 11 made the restart.
N294 Nigel Ashley steamed S345 Nick Souter before Souter also copped a
hit off Ballards Mk2. Pip Williams then did Ashley before the latter also
copped the same treatment from S282 Lee Treasurer. Pip then gave Dan Steele
a large hit overe the back wheel. Vincent was the leader now but Ballards
Mk2 was blocking the way at the entrance to the West Bend. The former had
no choice but to pile into his team mate to get him out the way. Vincent
still made it out in the lead but next time around Treasurer was blocking
the way so obviously Vicent piled into the former, wasting him in the process.
S764 Steve Spall then arrived to give Vincent an equally bigger hit. The
former then backed out to take the win with no northerners finishing this
time.
Now
the South had a big advantage over the north with them on 290 amd the north
only 90.
25
motors for the Metro final and Lucas started proceedings off by removing
S265 Ken Angel. Al Morphet took a southerner in on turn 4 as Brian Heywood
wound out Bulley and Morphet met S418 Grant Simpson on the nose. The Yellows
then came out for Lucas who was hurt. Broad got the restart underway by
spinning Wayne Morphet as S492 Aaron Cornish steamed Brian Heywood and
N143 Sam Begley hit Simspon. Mills then fired into Begley as Robinson hooked
out Broad, with the latter then copping a head on from team mate S311 Danny
Smithson! Simpson put a rated hit in on Shaw and Sausage Boy got revenge
by jacking Simpson. Robinson took another good victory for the North.
The
37 car Infantry final was got underway by N295 Havoc removing Scully as
Kelly hit N22 George Coats and Stevens put N104 Mick Siddals up the banking.
N80 Jack Foster put S206 Kingy in before N67 Sparkey blitzed Stevens. Foster
spun S199 Phil Powell before Havoc also weighed in on the former. Foster
won in what was a great race for the north as all remaining 6 cars over
the line were white.
The
Tank Final had 25 cars and was started by 09 Psycho burying Bart. A pile
up formed on turn 4 as Isherwood steamed Ellacott, Camden hit N69 Copey
and 401 Psycho did the same to Camden. Bart spun it on the home straight
and Ellacott was taken out by the XJS. N167 Bushwacker blitzed Utting as
251 Phillips felt the force of Spall. Bushwacker continued his wrecking
mission by destroying Camden. The yellows then came out for the latter
as he seemed to be in trouble. Hope everythings OK now Kev. With only 4
to run a decision was called and Simmonds was awarded the win for the South.
As
we went into the DD's it was now the North who had the big advantage with
them being on 780 points and the South on 480.
Only
10 made it for the Metro DD. 2 Southern drivers were taken out which just
left Bulley. The north tried to catch him and Wayne Morphet came round
the wrong way to do him head on but Bulley tried to move out of it and
as he turned left, Morphet went the same way and unfortunatly caught him
in the door. The race was stopped for Bulley and the decision was taken
to call that race null and void, meaning the South still had a chance of
winning from the last two DDs.
A
better 16 cars made the Infantry DD. Hits went in all over the track but
it was left to N37 Fizz, Havoc and N293 Paul Ashley to chase the last southerner,
S225 Richie Edmonds. Fizz managed a hit on him and both the latter and
Hovoc both put t-bones in before Fizz gave Edmonds a big head on which
finished him. It was left to Fizz and Havoc to have a big head on in which
only Fizz backed out of to take the win.
This
overall gave the North Victory so the South would only be fighting for
pride in the last DD.
8
made it for the Tanks DD with Parfitt getting things underway with a hit
on Usha. Ferret then spun Parfitt before carrying onto steam Woolner. Parfitt
and Holdsworth then shared a head on and Grumpy also landed a hit on the
former. Another head on went in between Holdsworth and Parfitt followed
by a couple more hits from Parfitt on the number 6 Jag which eventually
finished it off for Parfitt to take victory.
Overall
Result:-
North-1030
South-730
This
ended an absolute brilliant meeting. Massive hits, good racing and wrecking
all day long made it what must surely be one of the meetings of the year.
Well done to Stu K and the rest of the Northern army in defeating a strong
southern side to it a hatrick of victories.
