Rob'sReports 2001

UPDATED 31st December

Barrow, 2 Litre Bangers, 30th December

A reasonable entry of 32 Bangers for Barrows annual Christmas meeting. Only visitors being from Warton but included two from the Liverpool Invaders. Only two exceptions to the usual Capri/Cortina fold were a Mk3 Granada from 331 Jay Roberts and a used Mk3 Tina from 514 Paul Woods.
15 cars for heat 1 which started with 680 Stu Davies spinning 51 Ozmos. 14 Butch followed in 477 Rob Bell before Woods also spun the former. 36 Turkey hit 684 Alan Morphet before carrying onto steam Woods. Butch hit 878 as 81 Carl Burns put 270 in and Butch then went onto steam 878. 4 Jason Preston steamed Butch's Tina Estate before the recovered 878 then fired Preston in hard. 878 then copped a removal off Davies before the latter carried onto t-bone 627. Burns took the victory.
One more for heat 2 which kicked off in style with a large jacking train going into turn 3. The expected Team V v's Steeles battle kicked off with 310 Eno and 41 Dan Steele battling. Steele recovered to give 306 John Kirkbride a cracking follow in on turns 3-4 which rolled the latter. The yellows came out to rescue Kirkbride who was thankfully OK. The 7 car re-start got underway with Steele getting put in by a combination of 513 Dave Cuthbet and and 134 Doug Behagg. 92 Chig steamed 82 Stu Burns who also copped a hit over the front wheel from Behagg. 414 Cleggy spun Cuthbet before Steele also steamed the latter. Cleggy then hit Cuthbet en-route to victory. Steele took second with only two finishing.
Cuthbet began the 20 car all in heat 3 by running in Davies. Davies recovered to put Kirkbride into the infield tyres which subsequently put the latter into his second roll of the day!. The reds came out for the latter, thankfully again being OK. A complete restart was ordered and the 13 car restart got underway in style as Eno picked up 156 Daz Fine who in    turn picked up Steele which resulted in all three going into the fence with Steele getting the brunt of it. 666 Graham Charnley then met Steele on the nose as Davies steamed Charnley. 325 then weighed in on 33 Leeroy before Turkey put hit of the day in on Davies with a rated steam. 264 Waldo also got a hit in on Davies before Steele and Ozmos went head to head. The reds came out and the race abondoned for no apparent reason, though there werent many cars running now.
The 17 car all in final kicked off with Charnley following in Steele with the latter also copping a t-bone off Roberts. Turkey attacked 270 before the formers running mate Bell also hit 270 over the front wheel. The yellows then came out for 76 Ste Waite who had gone over by the pit gate. The restart had 9 starters and Roberts started things off by firing in Steele. Steele then turned it round and took out Fine on oppo. 270 hit Cleggy which caused a big fire in the latters Capri which brought out the yellows. For some reason again the race was stopped altogether and that was the end of the race. No winner was given.

Just 6 cars for the DD which saw 88 Wayne Morphet on oppo from the off and come at the approaching pack from the outside in, totalling the (838?) Carlton . 36 Turkey arrived to give out a stiff portion to Mallo only to find out that Charnley was still moving!! and as Turkey took the top corner , Charnley launched a full bore psycho run across the grass at him , just catching his rear quarter (and a good portion of armco too). Turkey then lapped to do a full bore T-Bone on Charnley to claim the DD victory.

Not a classic but one which was lively and certainly had it moments.

Many Thanks to Austin Tomlinson for sending us the report on the DD.

Warton Raceway, Unlimited Bangers, 27th December

A good showing of just under 60 cars for Wartons first meeting of the 2001 season after the foot and mouth outbreak. A good showing of visitors as well with representatives from Barrow, Incarace, Buxton and Millom. 168 Big Hoss was also true to his words and was present with a 4 strong showing. On the material front there were jags from 441 Ian Burns-returned from Birmingham CoC-, 759 Marc Blower-returned from Firecracker-, plus 51 Ozmos and 802 Graeme Black both out in fresh XJ40's. A fresh Mk1 Granada from 666 Andy Pennington and 310 Eno returned his Birmingham Mk1. 461 Singy returned his Firecracker Yank, 688 Wayne Morphet returned his CoC Mk2 Granny Limo while Shovy had car of the meeting in a fresh FX4 Taxi. Must mention madman of the meeting though, 145 Bad Boy who had a Fiesta!
25 cars appeared for the first heat and from the off a large pile up started on turns 3-4. Jon Atkinson spun 449 Hammer before 144 Peter Kerrigan put 818 Mr Bump in. By now the pile up was massive and had taken up all the turn. Highlights were Shovy going in hard and Atkinson blitzing 181 Mick Creighton. Shovy then jacked Atkinson and 491 John Mason went in on Shovy. 549 Colin Taylor hit Morphet on the home straight while 104 blasted 149 Paul Gore. Big Hoss steamed 294 William Scott but by now no cars were running and the track was completely blocked so it was decided to later re-run the race.
A large grid of 34 cars came out for heat 2 and again it was dominated by a massive pile up on turns 3-4. From the off, 42 Donkey put 690 Winkie up the wall before 266 Big Al took Black into the wall but paid for it with a steam off 632 Dixie.318 Wilf Speak arrived to give 351 Tut Knowles a rated blitzing while elsewhere 47 put himself into the home straight marshalls post. Eno gave 317 Bullet a rated jacking before 394 also gave 50 Jamie Latham a jacking. 157 Barry Greenhalgh weighed in on 861 Jimbo before 151 Steven Scurr wasted Dixie with a superb shot. The recovered Jimbo jacked 325 before the reds came out to clear the track.
The 10 car re-start got underway with Speak firing Mason in before the 318 car proceeded to do the same to Black on the next bend. Big Al put Greenhalgh in which gave Black the chance to steam Al on the home straight and then spin him on the next turn. Greenhalgh was again put in, this time by Eno before Big Al slowed on the home straight which gave Speak the chance to deliver a rated blitz to the 266 motor. 439 Jay Kellet took the win.
The first heat re-run had 21 cars and kicked off with Gore attacking Morphet from the off before the former carried onto follow in Atkinson on the car park bend. Big Hoss steamed Mr Bump and Pennington did the same to Shovy. Big Hoss got a good steam in on Taylor before 196 Tank jacked 98 Billy Doolan, with the latter recovering to steam the Taxi. 104 Guru felt the force of Big Hoss as Tank hit Doolan and Hoss took the flag.
The all in final, into DD, had 31 starters and began with another pile up, this time on the pit bend. Everyone piled in including 666 Graham Charnley before Speak got spun round in the pile up. 300 Dan Kirkbride spun Jimbo while Eno met Scurr on the nose. The somehow resurrected Big Al went into the pile up, closely followed by running mate Eno. As Eno was the only one now running he was given the Final win before Pennington came off the centre to steam the former as both Pennington and Kellet went on oppo to have a big head on with Kellet being the only one to back off, thus given the DD win.
This ended a cracking first meeting of the year for the club. Mainly dominated by pile ups but which gave the chance for some big hits.
Must mention the excellent turn around times with the Bangers and the domestic formulas(5 formulas altogether), giving us a three and a half  hour meeting which was finished by half three to beat the dark.

Ballard then had a big head on with 357 Carl McClure which left the former wide open for a rated steam from Nelly but Nelly himself copped a good blitzing off 70 Si Needle. 67 Sparky took the flag.
The 36 car main race was up next and the drivers lined up in there grid positions after a parade lap. As the green went down Harty spun 209 Animal and Hoagy also got spun by the pack. 141 Dan Steele hit 348 Mushy as 45 Simon Tabinor did Harty. 384 Goldie put the luckless Animal in and Harty gave 911 Chris Harkness a rated steam on the entrance bend which unfortunatly Chris was hurt in and resutled in a trip to hospital for a check up. Hope your better now Chris. Before the yellows came out though 331 Boxer Jack had time to spin 295 Havoc going into turn 3 but paid for it with a succession of hits over the front wheel from Havoc and as Boxer Jack managed to break free he got caught up in a pile up on turn 4 which gave Havoc the chance to deliver a rated shot over the back wheel. As the 22 car restart got underway Dan Steele followed in 224 Mike Ross from the off and Goldie hit Smith over the front wheel. 920 James Medley then spun Steele as 41 Willie Skoyles hit 97 Alge. The recovered Steele followed in Smith and 147 Andy Davies spun Hoagy. By now 218 Clelland had caught Davies and they were having a great, hard, clean battle for first place. Hoagy recovered only to be spun again by 6 Mark Holdsworth while Steele buried 617 Jack Overy. 37 Fizz then removed Clelland as leader Davies was put into a pile up on the back straight. It also like Davies was t-boned while in the pile up. Steele carried on his follow in's by giving 318 Terry Chapman the treatment. Skolyes had now taken a good win to add to his Wimbledon World Final win and the Spedeworth points. His placemen were 22 Dave Vincent and Goldie. On the run down lap Fizz spun Ross.
35 cars came out for heat 4 which started with Nigel Ashley putting Rugrat in. 266 Big Al hit Burrows in what was now a pile up on turn 4 and Big Al was left wide open for a massive blitzing from 407.  Kirkbride followed Cullum into the pile up as 08 Alko also followed 217 Simon Hunt into it. Bernie met an unknown driver on the nose while Atkinson followed in Chucker. Atkinson pulled out and proceeded to blitz Bernie on the home straight. Robertson spun Rugrat but put himself in as a result. Tricky put Charnley in as Scully took the flag.
A great 54 cars for heat 5 which kicked off with Thomas hitting 306 Jason Parkin. Slack then met Parkin on the nose before Medley steamed 505. 293 Paul Ashley took Modga in as Tabinor followed in 244. Medley put Dill into 244 as Rogerson was blitzed by persons unseen. 183 Scott Banton steamed P.Ashley and Cush fired up the back of Tabinor. Tabinor retaliated by meeting Cush on the nose while Overy got his revenge on Dan Steele for his earlier burial by giving him a massive follow in on the entrance bend. Cush steamed Boxer Jack on the back straight as Copey gave 13 Mark Gilbert a blitzing on the opposite straight. 199 Phil Powell took the win.
The Final had 32 cars and A.Davies kicked off proceedings by following in 800 Benno. Filo then put Platts into Hoagy as Lucas hit Burrows and 401 Spud did 281. Usha followed in 40 before Filo fired 431 Dean Steele in. Spud followed Usha in while Charnley gave Platts a cracking follow in on turns 3-4. The reds then came out for fires in Lucas and Usha before the 11 car restart got underway with Mushy spinning 158 Shane Davies. N.Ashley put 58 Martin Dalton in. King then lined himself up for a hit on oppo, Mushy being his victim by way of a t-bone. S.Davies also got a hit in on Mushy as Clelland took the win and 9 cars came off the centre for the start of the DD. From the off 98 Alan Beamon steamed 281 and Banton gave Alko the same treatment which caused a fire but was quickly extinguished. Scully jacked McWibbs and Harvey did Rushton. Scully had a head on with persons unseen as S.Davies met 334 on the nose. Tricky steamed S.Davies but copped a hit off Banton as a result. Clelland met Scully on the nose before recovering to meet Vincent on the nose. The latter avanged that with a hit on Clelland before going onto meet Rushton on the nose. Clelland hit Vincent with 164 Cheyenne Knowles also going in on Vincent. Knowles hit A.Davies twice as Clelland steamed Rushton and Knowles also hit the former. Clelland t-boned Rushton before there was a head on between the two and Knowles fires up the back of Rushton to kill the P5 and Knowles therefore given the win.
This ended an excellent meeting which got better as the night went on. Congratulations to Willie Skolyes on his excellent win and also well done to his placemen.
I must also say thanks to Shaun Barnes for our transport to Birmingham. Thanks Shaun.

Around 100 cars participated in this years ORCi Team Championships at Ipswich. As it was 1600cc there was not a great deal of material on show but the best would be the Mk1 Capri of Br57 Baher Broad and the Mk3 Cortina Estate of R342 Muscles. Others included a used Mk3 Tina for PRI193 Frankie Skinner, Stella's for GMP911 Chris Harkness and R517 Scott Weldon, a used Mk2 Escort for N777 Trevor Luff which just left GMP31 Steve Carson in a lone Lada!
45 cars for the first heat and A266 Ian Meaker started off proceedings by spinning 312 on the wet surface. Br114 Martin Lake then jacked team mate(!) Br185 Paul King before S61 Flash put Bu470 Peter Corbett onto the centre. The yellows had now come out to salvage a wheel off on Kings before the 39 car restart soon got underway again. Basher hit N372 Scully over the front wheel as RDC18 Rob Burbridge jacked N37 Fizz and A734 Kev Hooper hit team mate(!) Basher. Muscles, who was being pushed at the time, then gave Basher a portion of t-bone leaving the Mk1 in a mess and finishing Bashers day. S385 Kevin Thurlow spun Scully before Lake removed PRI49 Billy King from the running and I179 Shaun Rushton took R452 Adam Eyles out. Scully then fired S224 Dave Canham and Flash in before Lake removed T542 Gerbil. Sk252 Barry Sim then hit RDC22 Dave Vincent before Lake again removed Gerbil but this time he paid for it as I183 Scott Banton gave him the same treatment. T145 Sonic t-boned Vincent and Sim jacked Burbridge after the latter had gone in on Banton. I8 Deadly Daz took a comfortable win for the defending champs Incarace.
One more for heat 2 which started with PRI331 Jason Jackson edging out B169 Little Hoss early doors before Scully put Sk200 Noon into R215 Steve Holmes and S84 Bleach removed T901 Yobbo who was then given a rated roof bender from R300 Jon Ayles. R159 Mitch Mills then jacked Sk05 Carlos Perez which gave B707 Lee Tomlinson the chance to blitz Perez's Tina Estate. I213 Woka then put PRI53 Phil Stevens round and Ayles removed Bu28 John Collier. Bu75 Steve Thacker spun S264 Mark Welland before N142 Graham Kavanagh jacked Skinner and RDC119 Cruncher Cox fenced S670 Tricky. Scully then hit Perez and Vincent met PRI348 Mushy on the nose. Welland walled RDC220 Andy Thacker as 361 steamed Ayles. I39 Smosha took another victory for the Incarce outfit.
46 cars again out on track again for the third heat and King started things off by meeting Harkness on the nose although GMP880 Naisy got revenge for his running mate by jacking King. Naisy himself though was then spun by 170. Rushton removed Bleach as Woka hit Bleach and Weldon spun Br404 Rob Mills. Naisy then jacked team mate(!) 152 Mr Grumpy on the back straight as Sk551 Mr Mole jacked down RDC147 Andy Davies Tina Estate and BU295 Havoc followed in A778 Paul May. Br58 Martin Dalton did Mr Grumpy over the front wheel as N37 sent B318 Wilf Speak spinning. Woskett then carried onto jack the empty Meaker car. Welland spun Bu97 Tony Firth before 45 gave Burbridge the same treatment. Dalton then got rid of Woskett as Deadly spun 170 but the latter recovered to fence Dalton. Speak fired Weldon into Bu181 James Wilson as Mushy took the win for PRI.
At this point Incarace were leading on 44 points, second were PRI on 26 points and third on 23 points were RDC.
Upto 51 cars for the fourth and last heat. To start, Br311 Danny Smithson went in on Scully and Speak hit S46 Maverick. Vincent spun Br198 Marcus Goldsmith before Flash put B211 Oily in. A.Thacker steamed Ayles but paid for it with a hit from 54 Willis. R387 Mark Le Feaux fenced PRI32 Mark Ruskin while Maverick steamed Moley. Thurlow put Holmes into the infield tyres before Cruncher followed Banton into the parked car of Flash who was already in the fence. Thurlow spun Le Feaux as the former went onto fence and spin RDC158 Shane Davies in one go. Jackson put Woka round as Jackson took the win for PRI
The all in final drew a good 60 cars and started with Rushton taking out King. Woka followed in Oily as R121 Scott Baggett hit B143 Sam Begley and Woskett spun B168 Big Hoss. I6 Mark Holdsworth jacked Welland and Muscles put RDC148 Ian Redden in. Maverick then blitzed Jackson going into turn 3 which was followed up by an even harder hit on the latter from I45 Simon Tabinor leaving Jacksons back wheels off the ground. There was then a stoppage for some debris on track. The 31 car restart started with ??? rolling onto the centre but as it was in a safe place the car wasnt up-righted and therefore I never got the drivers number. RDC91 Bart removed Skinner before Corbett put A.Davies into the stationary Skinner. Smithson met Baggett on the nose as Mushy jacked Gerbil. Sk220 Dave Bale did S.Davies over the back wheel as Corbett hit Maverick. Woskett then also went in on Mav as Deadly t-boned Welland. Holdsworth was then blitzed by Little Hoss as A.Davies met Skinner on the nose. Holdsworth, who somehow kepted his car going, steamed Welland twice before the former did Gerbil head on which gave T80 Jack Foster the chance to hit Mav head on. The lively Holdsworth hit Maverick twice and Bagget did Bale on the nose as Bart took a good win from PRI.
All the points were now tallied up and this years winners were the defending champs Incarce with 59 points. Second were PRI on 40 points and third RDC on 32 points. The rest of the placings were as follows:-

Bristol - 26 points
Spedeworth - 25 points
Ringwood - 19 points
Trackstar - 17 points
Northampton - 15 points
Skegness - 3 points
Buxton - 3 points
Barford - 2 points
GMP- O points
This was the second year running Incarce have won this event so well done to them and also to all the other teams who gave us a good day. Also well done to Barford who took the bets presented team on the day.
15 made the DD and they started by facing the fence and reversing out. It was now dark so viewing wasnt the best plus most of the action took place at the other end of the track(scoreboard bend). Havoc had a big head on at the start with Bart and Moley steamed Oily. Cruncher and Tomlinson both went in hard on people. A few more hits went in with Foster taking the win.
This ended a cracking meeting. Good hits, good racing and a slippy track were all the ingredients you needed for a good meeting and the 506 mile round trip was fully worthwile.

Barrow  28th October 2 Litre Bangers Championship Day (2001)

A good 26 cars for Barrow's last meeting of the season. Best material came from 680? in a Mk2 Trummy and 58 Mike Appleby in a Maxi. 431 Dean Steele and 569? both returned Mk3 Granada's while 266 Big Al, 88 Wayne Morphet and 684 Alan Morphet all returned their Standlake Maga-Crash capri's.
All cars in for heat 1 which had a lively start with 231 Grandad performing a cracking follow in on 156 Daz Fine. 651 Huggy spun 78 Dan Sharpe and 680? fired 36 Turkey in. 511 Steven Scurr played with Dean Steele on the centre while the recovered Turkey put 4 Jason Preston in. Deano then gave 569? the same treatment before 41 Dan Steele performed a massive follow in on Al Morphet which got all four wheels off the ground on the latters car. 176? then met Big Al on the nose and Dan Steele walled Huggy. Big Al then got a steam in on the unlucky Huggy before Wayne Morphet managed to spin Dan Steele and Huggy got some revenge by hitting Dan. Big Al jacked Turkey while 3 Steve Atkinson ran out an easy winner.
Down to 21 cars for heat 2 and Dean Steele got things under way by spinning 85 Jason Todd and himself which gave Wayne Morphet the chance to deliver a rated steam to Dean to finish both mens day. 650? followed Preston in, on turns 3-4, ripping a wheel off with Huggy, Appleby and 140? all piling in behind which caused a pile up. Big Al fired 200 Gareth Turner into it while Todd steamed 76 Steve Waite and Fine did 264 Waldo. Turkey met Scurr on the nose before there was a stoppage for a fire in the Sierra of 189 Shaun Dawes.
Only 7 cars for the restart in which Scurr jacked Huggy who was already in the pile up. Dan Steele fired up the back of Scurr with Fine also hitting Scurr. Dan Steele and Waite then set about Scurr, who was waving them in, delivering hits over the front and back wheels. Steele and Big Al tried to force a way through the pile up but as there was no way through an end was called for a void result given.
12 cars for the all in final which started with Waite following Waldo in. 140? put Grandad in before the latter recovered to spin Big Al. Dan Steele then ran 650? in before Waite put Atkinson and himself in. Dan Steele and the recovered Waite then both steamed 45?. 274? ran out a comfortable victor.
We didnt stay for the DD(if there was one?) as we faced a lengthy drive home and the day was dragging on a bit. What we had seen though was great, with action and good hits and a good end to a good Barrow season.

Barrow 14th October 2 Litre Bangers

A reasonable 23 car turn out for Barrow's penultimate meeting of the season. No real material to speak of but those worthy of a mention were 57 Steven Hardy who returned his 16/9/01 Unlimited Humber Sceptre, 297 Tim Nickson also returned his Hedno Pre68 A60 and 431 Dean Steele had a fresh Mk3 Granada.
Just 16 cars for the first heat and Dan Steele started off proceedings by spinning 019 Chip Kitchen. 5 Craig Pearson steamed and spun 14 Butch in one go while 76 Steven Waite walled 85 Jason Todd. The recovered Butch then fired 3 Steve Atkinson in before Waite followed in the luckless Atkinson. A pile up then formed on turn 2 in which Dean Steele steamed Butch. Little action followed this with Dan Steele taking a comfortable victory.
A better 22 cars for heat 2 which started with 30 Dougie Roberts giving Nickson's A60 a rated jacking. Dan Steele steamed 511 Steven Scurr but paid for it with a steam from 134 Doug Behagg. 107? then removed Dean Steele before Dean recovered and removed 266 Big Al. Butch then put 107 in before Butch and 264 Waldo both steamed Deano. Waldo went onto take the win.
The final had 19 cars and started with Pearson spinning Dan Steele. Dean Steele got revenge by giving Pearson the same treatment. Hardy got put into the centre by persons unseen before Butch removed Dan Steele. The spun Steele then recovered to meet Scurr on the nose while Dan also copped one over the front wheel from 107. Butch then steamed Scurr before Big Al hooked out 42 Steve Owen. 651 Huggy then put a big steam in on Pearson and 189 Shaun Dawes got rid of Owen. The recovered Owen was then duly followed in by Atkinson. Pearson spun Big Al while Atkinson got on with the winning and on the run-down lap Big Al spun Dawes.
This ended a good and enjoyable meeting with some good hits.

Barrow September 29th 2 Litre Bangers.
Many Thanks to Trev Whelan for this report. Check out our links page to visit his brilliant Roosecote Raceway Website.

A disappointing 13 bangers at Barrow for this last Night meeting of the season. Understandable I guess as Big Van Bangers were on the same card.

Nothing on the material front, 3 Cortinas, 4 Capris and the rest Bilge.

Ht1 Kicked off with 11 on track and 175 Mallo got straight down to business by fencing 107 ? (Sierra). 573 Oggie took 333 Mark Turner (Audi Est) all the way to the plating on turn 4 the following lap. 415 John Mason (Mk3 Granny) launched himself over the inner Armco to the infield. Pretty much a rod session although the highlight came in the closing stages when Turner Hooked on to 41 Dan Steele (Capri) and took him all the way to the Burger bar on turn 2, Turner coolly Waited for Dan to recover and repeated the move on turn 3. 121 Smiggy finished the heat by putting Oggie into the infield Bund wall. 151 (511) Steve Scurr taking the win.

Ht2 Saw 2 late comers in the field. 250 Stane (Cortina) and 266 Big Al (Cortina).
From the off, 651 Huggy (Capri) clipped Oggie who used Smiggy as a cushion taking the latter out. Oggie then spun himself and took a Bone from Mason. Stane seemed to have targeted Big al and didn’t see 107 ? come in with a bit of a love tap. Yellow flags for unknown reasons allowed Stane to home in on his quarry for a rear quarter shot putting Big Al into the Pit gate and then the infield. Scurr took Stane on the outside of turn 4 only to be hooked by the Krazy Krew man. 266 was hooked out by Smiggy, the latter then taking a solid punt from 41 Dan Steele which sent him on a paint scraper around turns 3 & 4. Steele was then waved through by ally Stane to take the win.

Final. A very Slippery Surface saw most struggle to keep it straight for the first lap. First contact came in the shape of 41 taking 121 hard into Turn one. Smiggy left hanging from the Armco. Steele going on to put Mallo into turn 3. 175 recovered only to spin again on turn 4, Stane had a stab at him but missed, this allowed Scurr to home in and repay the Ht2 hooking by putting Stane into turn 1. Scurr then hooked out Oggie. Huggy headed for the centre only to take a shot from 80 Stumpy (Cortina), Stane followed them both and gave the 80 Tina a boot dropping shot. 175 Mallo, determined to get a bit of the action went on oppo on turn 2 and was met by a big T-bone from the lively Stane. Scurr once again took the win and on the rundown, launched himself into the slowing Steele. Stane arrived on the scene to deliver a good shot to the rear of Scurr. A few minutes of tit for tat bones and rear end shots from 41, 250 and 151 saw the Tractor and Pace car intervene to call a halt.

A somewhat disappointing Banger session, more than made up for by a “Full On” Jack fest in the popular Bomber class.

Sadly due to an incident in the bombers involving a cut out, The Van Bangers session was cut short. Thankfully, no injuries to report.

Millom 23rd September Unlimited Bangers.
Many Thanks to Austin Tomlinson for this Report. Check out his brilliant Northern Star site at http://northernstarr.cjb.net.
A superb total of 25 cars for Millom's first Unlimited session of 2001. Visitors from Incarace , Warton and Barrow made a big difference to the norm and gave the locals some worthy opposition. 134 Doug Behagg had Millom's first FX-4 and 477 Rob "Skyliner" Bell likewise with his XJ-40 with 2 XJ6's in the hands of 441 Ian Burns and 88 Wayne Morphets Barrow return.3 Voles (325 Mark Dempster , 78 Dan Sharp & 85 Jason Todd),a Saab for 478 Chris "Chucker" Spiers, a well used Laurel for 541Stephen Metcalfe , an even more bent Carlton for 917 Derek Jones, and a fresh SD1 for 153 Stephen Tootle with the rest Mk2 powered except the bilge in the shape of 50 Jamie Lathams Rover 825.

Heat 1 saw 22 out to play with the first action being 728 Paul Robinson being taken in full chat by 300 Dan Kirkbride and finishing his day early , with many others clipping his already bent motor during the course of the race and writing it off. 325 Mark "Demo" Dempster disposed of 917 Derek Jones' tired Carlton up the banking.477 Skyliner did 541 Metcalfe as 431 Deano Steele put Demo away on the top bend.143 Doug Behagg rolled the FX-4 on the top bend landing on his wheels and carrying on and Willy Walmesley banked 153 Stephen Tootle as 88 Wayne Morphet pulled off a full bore follow in on 231 Grandad and then stuffed Tootle into the bottom bend car park on the next lap only to take a good shot over the back wheel from Deano .478 Chucker took a good full contact home win.

Heat 2 saw 19 out to play including  917 Mr "Never say die" in his seriously warped Carlton which he used to adminster a head-on to Deano on lap 1.Dan Sharp buried Jeff Platt as Trev extracted revenge by burying Wayne Morphet on the top bend with 861 Jimbo also joining the pile up as Demo gave Wayne the bone. Willy hit 3 Jason Preston flat out on the straight giving him a roof-bender as Skyliner lived up to his name taking Chucker into the pile up with the XJ40 carrying on over the banking smallfield style.Chucker took his second win.

The Final saw 16 cars out and once again it was all in from the off on the top bend with Wayne once again getting being banked by Trev and Pob doing him T-Bone style with 300 Dan Kirkbride writing the Jag off with a big hit just after Wayne had exited. Coyney joined the pile up but suffered a hand nasty and Kirkbride got going again to deliver a big hit to 861 Jimbo on the infield before the reds came out to rescue Coyney , who was all OK. 8 cars restarted with Chucker removing Steve Waite (in Grandads car!) as Derek Jones thundered into the bottom corner , with an assist from 431 Deano , and did the XJ40 with Deano going on to win the race.

The Mechanics race yielded just 7 cars and saw little action other than Sam Begley playing with Graham Charnley in the Fx-4 and Charnley avenging with a hit to finish Sam's car off. 31 Comp won in the smallest car on track.

The DD saw 6 cars do battle with 917 Jones unluckily unable to resurrect his Carlton heap. Both Steeles (Dan out in his 1600 Mk1 Capri) , Waitey (now in 78's Vole!) and Willy all hit the bottom banking together with the Vole emerging first to take a heavy head on with Charnley in the FX-4 which lit up on impact and cabbaged the Vole . DanSteele claimed a good victory in reverse by finishing the Vole .

Barrow 16th September Unlimited Bangers

A great turn out of just under 50 Bangers for Barrow's last unlimited meeting of the season. Visitors came from GMP, Warton, Barford, Buxton, RDC and Incarace. On the material front 390 Unsy returned his Kings Lynn WOS Mk 1, 461 Peter Singleton returned his Dodge Charger, 57 Steven Hardy had a fresh Humber Sceptre, 87 Steven Spencer had a 929 Mazda Estate and there were jags from 41 Dan Steele, 26 David Scott and the Morphet brothers, 684 Alan and 88 Wayne. I must also mention the brilliant turn out of 12 Stinkbridge, although one, 318 Wilf Speak didnt race.
A mintue's silence was held before the meeting in rememberence of all the people who lost their lives in the American terrorist attacks.
Only 13 cars for heat 1 which started with 14 Butch putting 11 Darren Race in. 155 Mr Nervous then jacked and spun 169 Little Hoss in one go before Race played with team mate 168 Big Hoss on the centre with Race then t-boning Little Hoss. Steele put 105 Darren Briggs in while Alan Morphet steamed Mr Nervous. Butch had now taking the win from Steele and the recovered Briggs.
A better 17 cars for heat 2 and 09 Psycho kicked it off in style by latching onto 53 Dave Cuthbet who inturn latched onto the formers running mate 236 Nobby, who put 25 Dempster up the fence as a result. Wayne Morphet then pulled off a superb blitz on the luckless Dempster, leaving the latters estate well totalled. 252 McWibbs then followed in the recovered Cuthbet. The race then went roddy for a while until 69 Smelly put himself into the inner kerb which put a wheel back and slowed him enough for 294 Nigel Ashley to perform a brilliant length of the straight blitz on the formers Mk2. 156 Daz Fine won from 690 Pete Richardson, Hardy and Wayne Morphet.
17 cars again for heat 3 and 196 Tank started things off by putting 108 Tangoman in while 182? did the same to Spencer. RDC visitor 372 Scully put himself into the infield tyre's before 59 Mark Blower put 00 Chris Emery into the strandad Spencer. Scully then went onto put 246 Steven Flannery round before going onto jack down Tangoman's estate. 300 Dan Kirkbride put Scully up the wall before 550 Stripit put Flannery in. 266 Big Al met 133 Wally on the nose while Stripit took the flag.
Upto 24 cars for the consolation which looked like being a promising race and thats what we got. From the off a massive pile up formed on turns 3-4. It started off with Singleton and Scott both getting thundered in, the latters Jag being left in quite a state. McWibbs then piled in and in the process blitzed Big Hoss although he paid for it with a massive blitz from Nobby which left McWibbs back wheels nearly around his ears! Alan Morphet then superbly blitzed 16 Pob. 293 Paul Ashley piled in but paid for it with a rated blitz from Big Al. 167 Bushwacker then avenged the hit on his team mate by blitzing Big Al and Mr Nervous steamed Bushwacker. Late arrival 317 Bullet then hit Mr Nervous which ended a brilliant race and a terrific sequence of hits.
As just about all the field was in the pile up an end was called for and a void race decided.
The race was run again after the interval but the race only drew 4 cars(which is understandable considering the last race!) thus it was decided that they all qualified for the final and no race was run.
15 cars for the qualifiers only final and Wayne Morphet started off proceedings by meeting 10 Rugrat on the nose. Steele put Richardson in before Bullet also met 143 Sam Begley on the nose. Fine and Richardson then took each other out before Butch removed Stripit and Steele did the same to 182. Steele took the win from Fine and on the run down lap third place man Hardy took Fine in and Steele steamed the former only to cop a hit off Briggs.
10 cars made the DD. It started off with Race jacking Big Hoss while 152 James Dillon and Little Hoss met head on. Psycho then blitzed Big Hoss on opposite and Race t-boned Big Hoss before 409 Carlos Pears did him head on to finish the 168 car off. Psycho then hit Race but copped a hit off Bushwacker. Pears then came round the wrong way to meet Psycho in a big head on, on turns 3-4 to take a joint win as no one backed off.
This finished a brilliant meeting once again at the Roosecote Raceway and that big consolation pile up will live long in the memory.

Millom 9/9/01 Metro/Fun Meeting
Many thanks to Austin Tomlinson for this report. Visit the links page for his great Northern Star site.

Millom's season finally got underway with a Metro/Fun Meeting which attracted a very healthy 43 cars spread across 4 classes . 10 Metros took to the track with notable visitor being RDC's Reliant specialist 143 Sam Begley. Half a dozen Barrow drivers turned up in Bangers , as opposed to Millom's 1600 min contact class and were given 3 races of their own , with
all also doing the much better subscribed 1600's. 14 Willy Walmesley had the tin (?) of the day with a fresh Viva and many drivers did 2 or more classes on the day , making for a fun day!!

Metros were run to low contact rules for the first 2 races and full contact for the Final.
Race one saw 4 Derek "Pimpo" Preston take the win despite being spun out by son 3 Jason , with the first to show a willingness to put the bumper in being 478 Chris "Chucker" Spiers.
Race 2 saw an in-form Chucker hitting everything on track while Pimpo battled hard with 143 Sam Begley , 4 Jason removing Sam only for him to come back on the last corner and take a well-deserved win .
The Final saw 4 Jason roll 476 Keith Gardener off the banking causing a restart , with Sam Begley and Ian Burns battling for the lead until Burny opened up a lead and took the win.
The DD saw just 3 cars but full credit went to 143 Begley as he turned it round to take big hits off Danny Shaw and Timmy Carter who then met in a head-on rendering both cars immobile - all 3 drivers got a trophy for taking part with the win declared joint between Shaw and Carter.

Bangers class saw 6 drivers in most races , though not always the same 6 as drivers drifted in and out all day from other classes!! Highlights were the comedy duo of 130 Martin naylor and 16 Pob Howard taking turns to get stuck on the tyres in their efforts to free each other !! Little in the way of hard action with 16 Pob taking the win heat 1 and 2 and
the final going to 666 Charnley who , along with 14 Butch entertained all day.

1600cc Bangers saw an impressive 20 cars in heat one , with all drivers (including those who had been out in the Bangers) behaving themselves for this one and proving lively  and entertaining  with 441 Ian Burns taking the win. Heat 2 and the Final were a different matter with the drivers firing in hard and fast.Heat 2 saw 441 Ian Burns follow 325 Dempster into Jason
Preston's Montego causing the Dempster Lada to light up and 666 Charnley piled into the back of 321 Les Cole a touch after the reds and generating an slapped wrist!! Result was void. The Final saw a similar incident on the top bend with 14 Willy being rolled off the banking and the reds going out only for a few to pile in around the 14 car. Willy exited untroubled and the mayhem continued with Charnley punting Les Cole up the banking on the bottom bend and 16 Pob doing 11 Jeff Platt on the top bend bringing out the reds for an injury and handing the win to 441 Burny.

All in all , a pleasurable afternoon if not exactly a heavy encounter. Many new faces at the track , hopefully some of which will venture back for the Unlimited Bangers on 23/9/2001 . That said , there is much to do to the Club if it is to hold the interest of visiting drivers , with track clearance times on the long side and organisation a little chaotic. The Junior Bangers
again showed promise and could lead to a healthy crop of future drivers but I fear that unless the 1600 class becomes full contact this year , then Millom will slowly but surely have to phase out full contact racing.

Barrow 2nd September Standard Meeting report.
Many thanks to Trevor Whelan of the Roosecote Raceway website for this report.

A better than expected 27 Bangers arrived at Barrow for a Standard domestic meeting. Nothing in the way of notable material with the field being dominated by Capris of which there were ten. 2 Cortinas, 5 Sierras, 2 Bluebirds, 2 Cavs, 2 Belmonts and one each for Lada, Scirrocco and Stella plus a Mk3 Granny.
Format was all in two heats and a final.

Heat 1 raised 24 cars and got no further than turn 1 after the green flag had dropped. The now usual Roosecote pile up & pile in contained the whole field. It all happened so quickly that the report is sketchy at best.
59 Blower hit the wall unaided causing a partial track blockage and then the pack arrived. 41 Dan Steele steamed 50 Jamie Latham, 297 Tim Nickson was waving frantically to indicate what turned out to be a huge fuel spillage in the car. Out came the yellows those that had managed to escape the car park were now arriving for a second helping, taking little notice of the flags. 651 Huggy put in a good solid shot to the rear of the 41 MK1 Capri. 27 Potter followed in with a shot on Huggy, 431 Deano then arrived very late on the scene to steam Potter. Red flags concluded heat one, part one. The restart mustered only six cars and was a rod session to the finish, save for a good follow in by 175 Mallo on 573 Oggie.
Result. 41.  50.  175.  NOF

Heat 2 brought 18 cars back on track. Oggie kicked things off with a follow in on 289?. 134 Doug Behagg took a solid Jack from 878 Romeo which snapped the Capri of impressively. 121 Smiggy hit the wall in turn 1 very hard without assistance. 50 walled 431 Deano turning him into the the path of 289 who obliged with a solid head on. 653 Reedy was Jacked well by 158 Dave Knight who in turn took a better shot from the ever lively 30 Dougie Roberts. It later took 2 tractors to separate the three cars. 175 Mallo followed the 50 Capri all the way in on turn 4 befroe the Yellows were out to attend to Reedy. Only 5 made the restart which saw Dan Steele avenge the Ht1 hit from Huggy with an Awesome follow in on turn 2. Dan then Calmly going on to take his second win.
Result.  41.  415.  136. NOF

Final could raise no more than 13 cars but was as good as any of the heats in entertainment value. 42 Donkey walled 27 Potter. 41 then followed in 12 Ray McKenna big time with a 27 assist. 41 then went on to bury the 59 estate in turn 4. 415 John Mason put 16 Pob away in turn 3. 59 recovered to Steam 42 who kept his foot to the floor until the engine let go. 297 jacked down the rear of 59 and was followed by team mate 158 Dave knight with a solid T-Bone. Credit to McKenna who managed to rejoin after the big follow in. 297 Tim going on to take the win from the very lively 41 Dan Steel who gave a spinning 158 a T-Bone on the run down.
Result.  297.  41.  158.  12.  NOF

A very Lively session once again from the northern outpost. Supported by another strong showing of 33 cars in the Bomber class and a 33 cars from the Rookies. Both classes turned out to be as heavy as the Bangers.

Barrow 18th August, Metro Bangers
Many Thanks to Austin Tomlinson for this report from the Barrow Metro meeting.

Barrow attracted an extremely healthy 49 Metros including many visitors.Unfortunately , with rumours of a low turnout circulating beforehand , the Club had made the decision to run Bombers and adult minis also , making for a slow night which frustrated more than a few.Heats 1 and 2 were run to minimum contact rules as an attempt to save cars for the Final which also
proved unnecessary and yet more controversy ensued around the steam tank issue , with the threat to load anyone using a steam tank. Barrow really needs to start falling in line with National rules now that it attracts so many National drivers.

Heat 1 : 21 Cars out with 140 being particularly lively in the early stages but soon eclipsed by a superb performance from 97 Baz Kitchen who hit everything on track including a good steam on 14 Sausage Boy. 231 Trev "Grandad" Whelan took a large portion from persons unseen and 666 Charnley took the win , only to take a massive hit from Baz on the run down lap.

Heat 2: 24 cars for this one , with 69 Mark "Smelly" Bass being the first to show with a spin on 136 Mike gaitskell then the same to 300 Dan Kirkbride before tangling once too often and getting beached on the inner banking.266 Big Al put it about well and 76 Steve Waite took a large follow-in from 511 Steve Scurr. Sorry - result to follow for this heat.

Consolation : 26 made it out for the hardest race of the night , with 414 Cleggy kicking it off with a big hit on 300 Kirkbride and a track blockage formed with just about all the field piling in including an on-form Cleggy who deliverd a big hit to the rear of 51 Steve Kellet which unfortunately knocked him out. The Reds came out for Kellet , who exited without difficulty, after a short nap , to a large cheer. With only 6 gridding for the restart , it was decided to send all 6 through to the Final and dispense with the rest of the race , which the drivers may have been happy about , but the crowd less so.

Final :  16 cars gridded with the first action seeing 266 Big Al spun out as Eno cleared a way through the top bend pile up which was forming. 414 Chig went head on to 157 writing his own car off and Chucker spun the luckless Big Al. 14 Sausage Boy put a hit in on 4 Jason Preston as 310 Eno removed 569 and 415 in one smooth maneouvre to take the lead.Big Al hit 183 hard and Sausage Boy took 157 round the armco as Eno crossed the start finish to add "Barrow Metro Champion" to the equally impressive "Scottish Champion" title which he won last month - wonder which one will get him seeded into the Champion of Champions Race??

I didnt stop for the DD , due to a prior engagement , but have had some info on it .  Around 16 cars and 10 Rugrat was out in Dan Kirkbride's car which he used to annoy 14 Willy on the infield / lineup before the race started , succeeding only in killing his own car before the race had even begun!! Although running mate 266 Big Al was clearly moving in the large pile up ,310 Eno took the win.

Barrow 29th July, Non Ford Meeting.

.

231 Trev'Grandad'Whelan took the honour of having the first car ever to display Crash Zone on Sunday at the Barrow Non Ford meeting in his Nissan Bluebird. Many, many thanks to Trev for that and see how he got on in the report!

20 Non-Fords turned out at Barrow , with no notable tin on show. 231 Trev "Grandad" Whelan  had a superb copy of the pace car and was one of 3 bluebirds on show , 2 Riva estates ( 14 Sausage Boy and 297 Tim Nickson) and one each for Stellar (42 Donkey), Saab (666 Graham Charnley) , Audi 80 (32 Compo) and a 2-door Non-Ford(!!) Cortina for Warton visitor 352 Hirdy with the rest being pure bilge.

Heat 1 realised a full grid ,with the first action being 14 Willy "Sausage Boy" Walmesley burying 30 Dougie Roberts and then doing a half roll before getting caught in the wires. After the restart , 10 Alex "Rugrat" McBain took 352 Hirdy into the safety area as 231 Trev and 36 Turkey Birkett had a private pre-arranged DD on the back straight resulting in another fine wreck for Turks. 651 David "Huggy" Walker (Astra) took an untroubled win and Rugrat then followed the 33 small Vole in just after the reds.

Result : 651 Huggy , 10 Rugrat , 231Grandad NOF

Heat 2 saw just 13 make it back out .297 Tim Nickson followed 14 Sausage Boy in on the top bend then team-mate 42 Donkey set about 14 on his way past , riding up the side of Walmesleys Lada and completing a full roll before doing another half lap and attacking 666 Instigator in a similar fashion , beaching himself on the inner banking in the process.Pob gave Sausage Boy a stiff head-on and Hirdy took a burial at unseen hands as a 3 car train with Gazmo on the front of the 2 Ladas , hit the wall. Huggy again sailed through for the win .

Result: 651 Huggy , 25 , 297 Tim Nickson , 16 Pob Howard

The Final saw us down to 10 cars with Sausage Boy , in his resurrected Lada , copping a package from Rugrat which ended both drivers races , Charnley took 32 Compo round on the bottom bend before Hirdy took him head-on on the next lap as Tim Nickson piled in. 2 laps later and Nickson hooked Charnely out on oppo with Donkey applying the Final shot under pressure . Huggy again took the win for his Hattrick on the day.

Result : 651 Huggy , 12 , 186 NOF

A consolation/accumulator/mechanics type race followed , but with most of the drivers convinced it was a DD , the action lasted all of 10 seconds , leaving some of the Bombers to rod round till the finish.

Another good Barrow Bangers session (backed up by a huge 35 car Bomber entry), characterised by the now familiar heavy hitting and carnage and a good laugh along the way.

Material came in the shape of 2 MK2 Trummies from UC4 Jason Preston and UC441 Ian Burns. MA152 James Dillon had a MK2 Cressida, while team mate 88 Pete McVay had a MK3 Cortina. MC13 Colin Johnstone and MB150 Leon Pelk both had Stellars. TV266 Big Al and JU234 Mark Webb both had nice 2 door Cortina's while material of the meeting came from MA911 Chris Harkness who had a MK1 Opel Ascona and BA82 Stu Burns a 1968 Ford Consair.
Heat 1 had 21 cars and began with BA81 Carl Burns removing Ian Burns. A pile up formed on turn 4 in which TV340 Jon Atkinson jacked MC122 Turk. Pelk avenged the hit by blitzing Atkinson only to cop a jacking from KK243 Doug. It was now a big pile up and KK550 Stripit went flying in with others and JU235 Paul Webb jacked TV310 Eno. NS917 Derek Jones, NS129 Neil Hodson and Ian Burns all found a way through the pile up and they all finished in that order with Northern Star taking a good early lead.
Down to 19 cars for heat 2. MB106 Bob Thompson kicked it off with a follow in of TB33 Lee Armstrong before Dillon put Big Al into the infield tyres. TB333 Mark Turner then got revenge by jacking Thompson. NT431 Dean Steele followed MW28 Keith Hadwin in and LV10 Rugrat did the same to UC478 Chris Spears. NT59 Brain Heywood hooked MB06 Craig Roberetson out. Dean then put OS14 Butch in before going onto take the flag from Speares, Rugrat, DM573 Alan Oggie and Butch.

The yellows then came out out for a pile up on turn 2 in which BA80 Stu Burns was hurt. Down to 8 for the restart. KK258 Harty put NS414 Cleggy in and again on the next corner, although while he did he lost control and hit the inner kirb and rolled. He got out, rolled it back onto all fours and duly restarted. One less for the restart where NT295 Havoc removed Cleggy and Johnstone gave out a revenge head on to Harty. Johnstone then came round the wrong way and met Harty in a big head on, on turns 3-4. NT213 Woka took the win followed by team mate Havoc and TF156 Daz Fine, bringing a big points haul for Northern Steam.
Down to 17 cars for heat 4. TNT97 Baz Kitchen started off proceedings by delivering a follow in to Preston before going onto jack the luckless Preston again on the next corner. Harkness followed in TV690 Pete Richardson before being removed by DM189 Shaun Dawes. MB108 Ian Gordon then jacked Kitchen and Dawes steamed Harkness. OS602 Ray Fallows won from team mate OS195 Andy Fallows bringing a big pionts haul for Orange Squash. Following them were TB333 Mark Turner, Dawes and TNT297 Tim Nickson.
19 cars for the final heat, heat 5. It started in fine style when NS169 Smelly picked up MW28 Keith Hadwin and Hadwin picked up OS327 and all three flew into the fence with 327 rolling over. 14 for the restart with NT41 Dan Steele putting DM85 Jason Todd in and then went onto follow Smelly in. OS78 Dan Sharpe then followed Paul Webb in while JU175 Mallo put NS684 Alan Morphet into Todd. TF147 Trevor Wright removed Mallo before putting Paul Webb into the infield tyres. Dan then put Wright into BA230 Tristan Abba sideways on. NT8 Deadly Daz then blitzed Armstrong after he had taken the flag. His placemen were Dan, Sharpe and LV130 Martin Naylor. Again Northern Steam had a big pionts haul in this race.
At this point Northern Steam were leading with 38 points, Orange Squash and Northern Starwere joint second, both on 25 points.
21 cars came out for semi final A. It got off to a bad start with a stoppage. Only 9 cars made the restart with Turk steaming TV942 Paul Dixon from the off. Harkness was jacked by persons unseen then UC81 Benno also did Harkness. No action followed this with Scurr taking the win.
25 cars for semi final B with Hadwin kicking it off by following in MW98 Ernie to put him up the fence. Butch steamed Snapper heavily but copped a great blitz from Woka. A massive pile up started on turn 3 with Cleggy jacking Pelk but paid for it with a steam from the latters team mate MB153 Steve Brady. The race was then stopped and only 8 made the restart. Havoc put Sharpe into the pile up and RDC visitor TF372 Scully then met Woka and Havoc in two big head ons. Havoc recovered to steam Fine and carry onto take the flag with Fine the only other finisher.
20 cars made the B final. Big Al started it by delivering a massive follow in to Holmes. TF139 Dave Bell jacked KK251 Dennis Raftel and Atkinson removed MW9 before the latter recovered to put Raftel in. Atkinson then removed the luckless Raftel after he had taken the flag.
19 cars for the A final and it started with Deadly removing Hodson. Woka followed in Sharpe before doing Hodson over the back wheel.. Jones had then rolled, bringing out the yellows. 14 for the restart with Scurr removing Dixon. Woka put Ray Hallows in and Deano put Spears into the infield banking. Preston then hooked out Deano and Rugrat met Havoc on the nose. A pile up started on turn 2 in which Deano set about Smelly, delivering 2 t-bones and another after the chequered. Dan took the win and to celebrate put Dixon up the fence.
With all the points now tallied up, first place was Northern Steam with 67 points, second was TNT with 36 points and in third place, Team V with 26 points. Well done to all them teams and also The Mob A on taking best turned out team.
Into the last race and 36 cars made the DD. Woka started it off by steaming Oggie and Deadly did the same to Smelly. Dan then met the latter on the nose. 59 Heywood put Harty into the pile up that had formed on turn 2. Turk met Stripit on the nose and Havoc steamed the latter. Stripit recovered to t-bone Havoc and steam Jones. Dan then did a length of the straight blitz on Jones. Brady steamed Stripit and Doug met 9 on the nose. MA155 Scott Hamilton reversed into Doug and a few tame hits went in before the Mob car died to leave Doug to take the honours.

This ended a brilliant meeting and about Barrows biggest ever meeting.

Unlimited Bangers - Barrow 16/6/01

A good 38 cars turned up for Barrows second Unlimited meeting of the season. Visitors came from Trackstar, GMP, Barford and Warton. Material to brake up the usual Granada, Volvo fold, were Trackstars visitor 05 Carlos Perez's Crown and 2 jags while material of the night went to 431 Dean Steele who returned his Taunton Rover P4.
17 cars for heat 1 which began with 41 Dan Steele removing 243 Doug. A pile up formed on turn 2 with everyone piling in and included 119 Chip Kitchen jacking 300 Dan Kirkbride and 10 Rugrat doing the same to 33 Leeroy only to cop a heavy blitzing from 684 Alan Morphet. Kirkbride then circled the wrong way and half way down the back straight he met Morphet in a massive head on which snapped both cars impressively and ended both mens night. No real action to report of after this with Dan Steele taking the win.
Up to 21 cars for heat 2 which started in fine style with 36 Turkey following in 917 Derek Jones who had somehow returned his Brum Champion of Champions mullered MK2. Dean Steele then steamed 290 Trev as Perez arrived to jack Turkey. 291 Jason Hewlett, 130 Martin Naylor and 88 Wayne Morphet had it away on the centre. Perez then steamed 85 Toddy at the end of the back straight which allowed 30 Dougie Roberts to deliver a rated blitz to the back of the Blooz Boyz's man's car and finish his night. Meanwhile the leading 115 Ken Hall kept catching the plating coming out of turn 2 and on the last lap this happened enough for second place man Dean Steele to take him out and take the win. To celebrate Deano jacked 159 Rick Gardener and then met Turkey head on, on the pit bend, on the run down lap.
21 cars came out for an all in heat 3. Turkey again kicked it off with a jacking of 728 Robbo before 49 put 134 Doug Behagg in. 14 Butch then ran Naylor in before the latter  recovered to t-bone Toddy. Barford visitor 105 Darren Briggs then put 49 into team mate Ken Hall as Butch then put 59 into the luckless Hall. Briggs kept out of trouble to take the flag.
The all in Final had 18 cars and started with 151 Steven Scurr putting Turkey in. Roberts then did the same to Dan Steele but his brother Dean avenged this by jacking Roberts Vole estate. Dean then copped one on the nose from 321 Ashley Savidge which started a pile up on turn 4. Rugrat, who had worked wonders to get his blitzed MK2 back out, went in only to cop a jacking from Butch. Doug t-boned 310 Eno and met 414 Cleegy on the nose. He then carried on to put 573 Oggie in and then he waved his Krazy Krew team mate in 550 Stripit who duly obliged by delivering two t-bones and then meeting each other on the nose. They both got out and shook hands and Doug was declared winner.
8 cars managed to make the DD. I could only make out the highlights as light was poor. Dan Steele went in on the pile up on the home straight which allowed Butch to blitz him and Stripit then blitzed the latter. 666 Graham Charnley then went after Stripit but only managed to get one hit in and Stripit turned it round to do him on the nose and over the front wheel to finish him off and take the win.
That ended a brilliant meeting with some rated hits.

2 Litre Bangers - Barrow 3/6/01
(Brief report by Tony Bell due to hands full taking infield photos!)

The poor turnout of cars on the day could no doubt be attributed to the fact that most drivers were either preparing cars for the big Hednesford Team meeting or Unlimiteds for the June 16th Barrow meeting.
15 cars gridded in Heat one, early action saw 166 put a hit on 134 Doug Behagg on turn 3. Next lap 297 Tim Nickson crunched 98 Mike Wilson same corner, followed by 78 Dan Sharpe giving 646 a big one. 431 Deano put a good hit on 640 in turn 3/4, and the unfortunate 640 was steamed into on the next bend by 98 Mike Wilson. 151 Steve Scurr had meanwhile kept out of trouble as the laps counted down, and went on to take the win. Some post-chequered 'afters' up on turn 2, with 41 Dan Steele  crunching 134 Doug Behagg!
15 cars again for the second heat, which started with 78 Dan Sharpe heading fencewards, his car was then collected by 159 Ricky Gardener. 666 Graham Charnley steamed into 50 going into turn 1, and then 550 Stripit took himself and 640 out. Both the Steeles put in good hits on the next few laps, with 58 copping a big one from Deano. Trouble was building up on turn 4, ending in a blockage which threatened to bring an early halt. 550 Stripit , after breaking through the pileup, had an engine fire before coming to a stop on the backstraight, then the race was halted to check on the fenced 58 driver. On the restart 151 Steve Scurr led them off, and was unchallenged going on to an easy second win.
Down to 13 cars for the Final, with some good hits, although yours truly was by this time concentrating on snapping the  action with little time for scribbling! Noteable incidents early on involved 5 Craig Pearson spinning out, and 98 Mike Wilson crunching into 159 Ricky Gardener. Deano 431 then stormed into the back of 58 (who'd been on the receiving end all day!) coming off turn 2. Double heat winner 151 Steve Scurr was also taken out by Deano, ending up on the wall in turn 2. A couple of laps later Deano was himself taken out by 297 Tim Nickson, this leaving only a few cars running. From these only 41 Dan Steele survived, and he went on to take the win.
( No report on the Allcomers race as we had a good journey home ahead of us and left early.)

Sierra Challenge - Barrow 20/5/01

A slightly disappointing 26 cars for Barrows all Sierra Challenge meeting considering 30+ were booked in.
As all cars were sierras there was no material to report of.
Just 10 cars for the first heat which began with 10 Rugrat removing 159 Rick Gardener. 36 Turkey then put 34 in while 34 then recovered only to climb the armco and roll on turn 1 bringing out the reds. Down to 5 for the restart as Rugrat put himself in. There was no action to report of after this with 14 Butch taking the win.
A better 15 cars for heat 2. It started with a pile up forming on turn 2 in which everyone was piling into and resulted in 266 Big Al climbing the wall. Krazy Krew man 550 Stripit put 69 Smelly away only for Smelly to recover and deliver a follow in to 354, the former then copped one up the chuff from 513. Stripit took the flag and on the run down lap 76 Ste Waite followed in 297 Tim Nickson.
11 cars for the consolation with Turkey kicking off procedings when he put Smelly out. Team V star 340 Trev then had a go at Rugrat only for 34 to put the former in. Turkey then steamed Trev only for him to cop a big one up the chuff from Smelly who in turn copped a jacking from 34. Rugrat took the win.
Only 12 out for the qualifiers only final. 159 Gardener removed Stripit while 80 Rob Burns hooked Rugrat out. 666 Graham Charnley put Nickson away and 513 did the same to 78 Dan Sharpe. The recovered Nickson then picked up Gardener and in turn Butch picked up Nickson and all three went flying into the wall. 230 Tristan Abba then spun Charnley only for the latter then to cop a jacking from 513. 76 Waite won from Butch.
11 made it for the DD which kicked off with Sharpe putting 134 Doug Behagg in. Trev took out Stripit while 246 Steve Flannery rolled on turn 1 bringing out the reds. From the restart Charnley steamed Big Al and Rugrat did Sharpe on the nose.Butch then delivered a massive blitz to the Rugrat motor. Trev did Behagg on the nose only for the luckless Behagg to then cop a steam from Big Al. Stripit then come round to meet Trev head on to take the win.
That ended a thoroughly enjoyable meeting which got better as the day went on and for me personally I hope it becomes an
annual meeting.

Unlimited Bangers - Barrow 21/4/01

33 cars for Barrows first Unlimited Banger meeting of the season. Visitors came from GMP, Trackstar, Buxton, Barford and Warton. On the material side 69 Smelly had a Mk 1 Limo, 940 Shaggy had a Thunderbird, 231 Grandad a Merc Coupe while there were 5 Jags including 684 Alan Morphets Brum returned XJ40 and 41 Dan Steele returned his 929 Mazda Estate.

15 cars for the first heat which kicked off with 431 Deano Steele following in the Limo of 69 Smelly, the former then also going onto put in 300 Dan Kirkbride and 942 Dickie. On form man of this race, Deano, then went to pick up Alan Morphet with the latter also picking up 297 Tim Nickson and all three thundered into the wall. Deano then still went onto put Kirkbride in again. 158 Dave Knight took the win but on the run-down lap he clipped the kerb which slowed him enough for Deano to blast him heavily.

Heat 2 had 18 cars and started off with a big pile up forming on turn 4 in which 550 Stripit met 291 on the nose to put him up the wall. The former then copped a steam from 49 Shaun Barnes who in turn copped a steam from Shaggy's Thunderbird. 36 Turkey, in the former 7 series Volvo pace car, then finished off the train by jacking Shaggy. Turkey then went onto deliver a storming blitz to the back of visitor 05 Carlos Perez's Mk2 on turns 3 and 4. With the track now blocked and hardly no one running the race was later re-run.

Heat 2 proper only had 9 cars and no real action to report of. Highlights were Dan Steele putting 49 Barnes in and 310 Eno doing the same to Buxton visitor 390 Unsy while Dan also got on with the winning.

17 cars for the all-in final. It started with Perez putting 14 Butch in while Dan Steele hooked out 690. 54 put Stripit in only for the latter to recover and get a revenge blast in on 54. Stripit then went onto follow in 76 Steve Waite while Deano took the win.

8 cars made the DD which started with a pile up forming on turn 2. Butch turned it round to steam 130 but then copped a revenge steam from 130. 666 Graham Charnley steamed Perez while Stripit went onto do Charnley over the back wheel and on the nose to take the DD win which ended a thoroughly enjoyable night.

2 Litre Bangers - Barrow 8/4/01

Just under 30 Bangers for Barrows first 2 Litre Banger meeting of the season. Usual material, Cortinas, Capris etc but pick of the bunch was 41 Dan Steeles 929 Mazda Estate.

26 Cars for heat 1 kicked off with a pile up forming on turns 3 and 4 in which 431 Dean Steele jacked 231 Grandad only for the former to cop a stiff steam from 235 Bulldog. With everyone piling in and the track blocked a complete restart was called for. 12 made the restart which started with 14 Butch jacking visitor 05 Carlos Perez. Dan Steele followed in Bulldog to leave the latter limping round only for Steele to give him the the follow in treatment again next time round.

Down to 20 motors for heat 2 which started with Dean Steele following in Leveller 16. 225 George Coates followed in 10 Rugrat into a pile up which  had formed on turns 1 and 2. 414 Cleggy put Perez into the pile up only to cop a stiff jacking from Dean Steele. 5 then steamed into Dean to finish off this train of hits. 90 took the win.

15 cars for the final which started with 300 Dan Kirkbride taking 297 Tim Nickson in. Grandad then caught 78 in the drivers door only to be left open for a stiff jacking from Cleggy. While this was going on 224 had rolled and come back down onto all fours but the reds came out as 78 was hurt. 10 for the restart in which 16 turned it round to meet Butch on the nose, snapping the formers Cortina, the latter then copped a steam from Dan Steele. As the reds came out the race ended and the result was declared void.

This ended a very enjoyable meeting with some good hits and a good start to the Barrow season.

Unlimited Bangers - Barford 26/12/00

A respectable 23 car turn-out for Barfords annual Boxing Day meeting. Best cars apart from the usual Granadas and Volvo's were a MK1 Granada, a Crown, 1 jag and 3 vans. Best vistors were a trio of Bad Boyz.

18 cars for heat 1 which which kicked off with 256 Harty removing 66. 46 jacked and followed in 151 in one move. The former also having 243 Doug in the Crown fire into him, all this happening on the pit bend. 105 Darren Briggs blasted 66 before Doug put 965 in. Harty then met 48 in the MK1 on the nose before the former followed 965 in to the pile up on the pit bend. Harty was somehow declared the winner.

Down to 13 cars for heat 2 which started with 26 David Scott meeting 777 on the nose. 201 Ian Duncan put Doug in but paid for it with a blast off Harty. 666 put himself in while Doug hit 777 over the back wheel. Briggs took the win.

The Final which had 14 starters was a little on the roddy side but included two of the biggest hits of the meeting. First when 27 did a massive follow in on the jag of 01 which snapped the jag impressively. Then when Doug delivered a big blitz to the back of 415 who was pushing Harty at the time.

9 Caravans for the caravan race which started with a big pile up on the top bend. A pile up then also occured on the pit bend in which 47 Hylton Hutchinson fired 666 into. 202 Kev Dowson then circled round the wrong way to pile into the van of 666. Dowson then escaped and duly piled into the pile up on the pit bend before he came round to take the flag.

As darkness fell visibility became poor but what I did make out was Duncan hassling Harty and I think Briggs took the DD win after a few hits to the MK1 Granny to end a very enjoyable meeting.
