The Story of Tulketh

Kim's Pages

I have been researching my Travis family history since about 1980. In the early 1980s I got stuck at a Christopher Travis, married in Salford, Lancashire, in 1787. Since then I have been gathering data about all people with the Travis name, mainly in Lancashire, but also elsewhere in the UK and overseas.

I intend to put information about three Travis families onto pages below this one My own Travis line, going back to Christopher and Mary Travis, married in Salford, Lancashire in 1787.

A Travis family detailed in a book published in 1893 by John Travis. This family were at various times resident in Blackley, Oldham, Crompton, Walsden, Todmorden, Shaw etc, in south east Lancashire.

A Travers family detailed in a book written recently by Mr R Travis of Colorado, USA, which goes back to early Travis settlers in Jamestown, Virginia (1630s), and from there back to the landed family of Travers of Tulketh and Nateby (near Preston, Lancashire, and Garstang, Lancashire respectively) who came over with William the Conqueror in 1066.

I have done a lot of research and have come to some conclusions about what happened to the TRAVERS family of Nateby and Tulketh.  The evidence uncovered directly disproves the link to this family claimed by the descendants of Edward Travis and Jamestown, Virginia, and of William Travers, tobacconist of London (via his son William, of Pasquotank, North Carolina).

I have compiled all the information I can find on Tulketh through the ages, and the results are here.
