    Philip,
Thanks for writing and letting me know about your relation. I'd be glad to receive any information on any Dundee Players from the past to include in the Past legends section.

Thanks for your kind offer and I'm sure all my regular readers look forward to reading it too.

    Hi Bob,

I wonder if you have room in your section on Past Heroes for my wife's grandfather.

He was Dave Hutchison, a half back, who played for Dundee circa 1914 to 1920, before moving south of the border to South Shields in English Div 2 then. He became captain of the side, staying in England until 1929, when he retired back to Dundee to continue his 'civvy' job as a carpenter.

I have quite a bit of info relating to him and the Dundee team about that time, with a couple of team photos. If you are interested, I could scan and email the photos to you.

I was at Dundee Uni in the 70s and had the great pleasure of being at Dens Park for the games against FC Koln and AC Milan, plus many normal games during my time there. I last saw Dundee a couple of years ago in the Cup quarter final replay defeat by Hearts.

    All the best,

    Phil Harrison

    Hi Bob,

Just I quick note to say I had a really good look at your website today and it is superb.

I tend not to surf online too often so had never looked at your site properly until today and just thought I'd let you know how good I thought it was.

It is by way and away in my opinion the best unofficial website.

    Keep up the good work.

Thanks for the kind words Kenny especially from a well known Dundee writer as yourself. There's always new additions I'd like to do and projects to complete, but knowing the site is being appreciated makes all the hard work worth while.

    Hi

Now this may sound a little strange .........
as part of our retire to Scotland dream we came up to Scotland house hunting etc. and visited Dundee.

I had never been to Dens Park before or even seen a scottish game (I'm a Fulham supporter down here) but found the grounds ( I couldn't believe how close they are) and walked into the Dundee club shop. It just felt right and I was hooked !

By the Sunday we had driven further north and I found myself in a pub watching Dundee play Rangers. It was great and I really took to Dundee and felt really disappointed when Rangers were awarded the final penalty ! (I wasn't being neutral any more)

I just wanted to say that when we finally retire and move north it will have to be Dundee FC for me because for some reason something seemed to connect and I loved the place ! I also went down the road to Tannadice but it didn't do anything for me !

Hopefully I can get to a couple of games next year before finally making the move. Anyway all the best for the final and remember there will be one extra new supporter watching down here in England !

    Jeff Perkins

    --------------------------------------------------------------------------

    Jeff,

Welcome to the Rollercoaster ride which is Dundee FC. We are capable of playing the Football you appreciated when Best and Marsh were there at Fulham. Plus we are a Team not driven by hatred of others, but our local rivalry though intense is in most good humoured.

The introduction of the Marr Bros and auld Jim are great for the club and also to see the enphasis being put back on the youth policy is GREAT!! No more washed-up has beens, being signed wanting a quick fix in wages. Anyway enough of me ranting on...just wanted to say brilliant site and keep up the good work mate.....

    Hi Boab

3-2 flatters the Arabs as they were never really in it (7-2 would have been a better indicator of our dominance).

Got a wee bit nervous towards the end of the match. Still a win over that lot is always good.

    Cheers
    Alan

    --------------------------------------------------------------------------

Have to agree Alan it's always good to win a Derby, but my concern is the way our Midfield seem to be more concerned with going on the back foot rather than the front foot. When the opposition have the ball, we retreat giving the opposition far too much space.

    Hi Boab,

First entry into your guest book this season, I think. After a lean period getting any result at Tynecastle we finally got a win. Was it the 99 season where we took 12 points from them. Its great to see the Dees in the upper half of the SPL and our unfortunate neighbors at the bottom.

    Cheers from Downunder

Greetings Boab from west of Cornwall

I read your website for the first time today. Congratulations on a very comprehensive picture of dundee past and present. Among your heroes of the past I searched diligently for the name of Bobby Ancell. He was the only left full back I can remember who could play Gordon Smith out of the game.

Your will gather from this that it is a long time since I have seen the Dark Blues in action. I remember one occasion at the new year Dundee beating Rangers 3-1 at Dens. I was a youngster then and was able to get into the ground but I never saw anything of the match as I couldn't get through the crowd. I then went home and listened to the game on the radio. It was a great day.

I now live in the far west of Cornwall but the Dundee result is always the first one that I look out for.

    Boab,

Should have mailed you earlier. Your articles on the visit to Smederevo last year were invaluable for the Ipswich fans who travelled there last week. There is a report on the trip at the website of the North West (England!) Branch of the Ipswich supporters club's website, at http://www.itfcnorthwest.co.uk. Just click on Fixtures and then click on the Sartid Smederevo (away) match. The actual match report isn't completed yet but just as with your report, the match itself was secondary to the trip as a whole.

I am sure it will bring back some good memories the other boys who travelled to Serbia last year.

You'll notice we dispensed with the services of fellow scot, George Burley, earlier today. He'll do well in the future I'm sure. I'm disappointed to have lost him.

    Hi Boab

Your site just keeps improving. The two rebel players were they any good or what? and would Dundee be better off getting rid of them I have never seen any of the present team play.

I just know what I read and what about the manager is he good for Dundee and in your oppinion should they keep him or get rid of him or what? Well lets hope they have A good season this year A good run in the cup would be nice, better still if they could win something, Also your heros of the past is very interesting it brings back A lot of good memories.

    Chuck Canada

    --------------------------------------------------------------------------

    Chuck

Good to hear from you again. Thanks for the compliment on the site.

In answer to your questions it's probably a great financial burden lifted from the wage bill the fact they have now gone.

As for being any good, one was Injury Prone? and the other was a good Midfield anchor man that was commited, sometimes too zealous for the referees.

Both players weren't outstanding, but did a job which can probably be filled by another member of the squad. So they won't be missed that much.

Regarding the Manager Ivano in my opinion was a Great Agent, but his Coaching had a lot to be desired due to the fact he couldn't get talented Players to play consistantly.

Personally I'm pleased at what he was trying to achieve, but maybe someone new is required to take the Team that step further, whether Jim Duffy is the right man for the job will be seen once the League gets underway.

    Hi Boab,

Good news about you and your team dealing with your City rivals in Manchester. I have just read the report of your tight contest going down to the wire. Brilliant response by Andy to answer that the losing team in the 1956 European Cup final was Stade de Reims having got there by beating Hibs in semi.

Better news also on the pitch with the Dees stringing two wins back to back, could it be a hat-trick this weekend. I see that mathematically we still have a outside chance for a top six finish. Went back and had a look at early season predictions, how far of the mark was I.

Some terrible long term injuries have caused some of the loss of form but team management should have cover sorted out for all positions at the start of a season. I wonder if someone has done a calculation on games lost with goals conceded in last 5 minutes and tallied up points lost. I think that fourth or fifth spot would have been attainable if concentration had been kept up for 90 minutes not 85.

    Doug

    --------------------------------------------------------------------------

    Doug,

It's always great hearing from you all the way from New Zealand. Thank you for your praise unfortunately we have an uphill struggle to progress any further in the Quiz, though we will be going out to do the best we can.

Andy is a fountain of knowledge.

Unfortunately Dundee have no chance of making the top six Hearts and Kilmarnock both have 42 points we can only get 40. though we could leap frog Dunfermline like last season on the last day before the split.

My own predictions aren't looking too clever either, though I will be updating the standings right after the split so everyone will see where they stand.

    Hi Boab
Thought I'd never say this but think it's time Ivano said "Arrivaderci Dundee". We're now second bottom (thank **** for St. Johnstone). He can clearly attract class players but his tactical know how is nil.

    --------------------------------------------------------------------------

    Alan,
I understand your frustrations and I'm also concerned on the direction of the Club at the moment, but we've gone through too many Managers in too short a period of time so there has never been any continuity.

An ever changing board in the past never helped. Lets just hope that if the Current Board remains in place and the Club is at least stable at the Top we will eventually get things sorted out on the pitch.

The Aberdeen board have remained loyal to Ebbe and although I don't rate Aberdeen as a Great side they don't look like fighting the automatic drop as they had in his first years.

Ivano maybe raised our hopes too quickly that we've believed our own hype. Though I'm concerned I'm still willing to see what his 3rd year brings. I still get excited going to Dundee games, though come away disappointed. Something that I never felt for a long time. I used to go dreading the worse and be happy with a point. Now I go expecting entertainment, but now want points also.

Having watched Ivano close up in the dug out recently, I can say the Teams hot and cold spells frustrate him as much as the fans.

Though currently 2nd bottom there's no way we can be classified as in relegation trouble.

Excellent stuff Dave and I will have to check with my old dear and get back to you, but I am sure that the great Andy was in digs in Dundee with one o' the mither's relatives and was a perfect gentleman.

The thing that sticks in my mind wi' Penman is his prowess at freekicks and penalties - many points were earned from his golden boot. This is one of the things that I feel the present lot fall down on, despite the obvious talent they have and they could learn much from Andy P and Alec Stuart at freekicks.

    Doug,

Thanks on behalf of the Quiz Team for your congratulations.

Just to put you out of your misery. The reference to "Delia's Pie" is the fact she's Chairperson of Norwich City a Club which Di Stefano has a Share holding in, without any adverse National publicity.

So we reckoned Di Stefano has a finger in Delia's Pie. Hence the team Name. Ok I know it was a very fragile link to Dundee.

    Boab,

I am an exile (HM Forces ARMY) currently posted to North Yorkshire, I remember the great European nights at Dens against Cologne (twice) Anderlecht, Milan etc. I was like every one else excited by the Bonetti revolution but we seem to have lost the plot. It is becoming obvious to all that neither of the brothers is tactically aware or even understands the concept of Scottish football, okay with the import of so many foreign players our game may have changed but the thing that was always our way was commitment to the cause and 100% effort applied no matter who we were or who we were playing.

I have read today that the Bonetti's are both considering returning to Italy, if this is the case I say let them go, they have brought some good players to Dundee namely sara, Cabellero and the "Bird" however I feel they have also used the club to give their "friends" a last pay day at the expense of the club and more importantly the SUPPORTERS.

I hope you will comment on this, I remain a DEE until I die.

    Stuart King

    --------------------------------------------------------------------------

    Hello Stuart,

I'm always happy to answer anyone that posts on my site in fact I encourage this sort of feedback.

I can understand your frustrations at the Teams recent results, I think most fans are a little disappointed at the moment. It must be even more frustrating for yourself not actually witnessing what is happening.

I'd like to give my opinion to the recent things you've probably been reading.

Firstly the Bonetti's have said from day one they are Italians first and foremost and it has always been their intentions to return to their homeland. They want to return as a success story to get a top job in Italy, lets face it that's where the money is and it's the home of their Birth.

I have no problem with their attitude as it proves they want to be successful with Dundee to achieve their own ambitions. They never put a deadline on how long they hoped it would be to reach their ambitious plans, though I'm sure they hoped it would be within their 3 year plan, maybe they will re-assess this to Dundee's advantage? We don't know yet.

The Gutter Press are just digging up old stories and twisting them to sully Dundee's name yet AGAIN.

We finally witnessed Temuri Kitsbaia giving 100% for the Team, lets hope the rest of the Team will follow his shining example against Hibs, then we will be unstoppable. Skill with commitment.

Yes they have been giving jobs to their friends, but they are talented friends, who they have played along side and know what they are getting.

Stuart I see the light at the end of the tunnel after watching a more determined 2nd 45 minutes against Hibs, but every player must show the same determination as Temuri and in every game. If this happens I have no doubt we will finish top 6 if not higher.

Keep the faith as the Press just may have given Dundee the best incentive they could ever get, given the Team and fans the old Great Escape mentality of "no one likes us and we don't care".

    Hi Boab,

Don't know if if you were at Celtic park last week but watching the game on ESPN I was disappointed with Ivano's tactics, especially after conceding the first goal.

We should have changed from zonal defense to man to man marking and shut them down. I will be interested in your comments, its always difficult to see the bigger picture from watching from the TV picture though.

Very impressed of the midfield initiative and work rate of Temuri Ketsbaia, reminds me of Stevie Murray in his distribution of the ball to the forward line. I know he will get great support from the fans if he keeps up his early promise.

I am planning to be in Dundee Sept next year and look forward to attending some games in which I hope to see Beto Carranza , Giorgi Nemsadze , Temuri Ketsbaia, Juan Sara, Zura Khizanishvili and Javier Artero take some sides apart.

All the best for Christmas and New Year

Ivano has managed to attract many skilful players to Dens and the team is playing the best football any Dundee FC team has done for years. But our results often do not reflect this. Could it be that, for all his undoubted charisma and contacts in world football, Ivano Bonetti does not have what it takes to manage a team and get the results that the sum of its skills/abilities should get? Don't get me wrong, as I stated earlier, this is (on most occassions) the best Dundee side I've ever seen, but their results don't reflect their undoubted talent. Why is this so?

Hopefully this will spark some debate.

    Boris

    Subject: Tweed Debate

    Hi,

I'm writing from Germany. Steven Tweed is just playing as a test player for MSV Duisburg (my favorite team, Second League in Germany). At the moment they're playing more than worse, so they invited Steven Tweed. We urgently need someone in the defense (four league matches 13 goals against!). He must play in a new system, we have a new coach Pierre Littbarski, he was world champion (1990) as a player and he wants to play a four-on-a-row defense (sorry, I don't know the english translation).

When I read your comments, we shouldn't buy him. What's the problem with him?

    J. E.

    -------------------------------------------------------------------------------

    J. E.

I never said don't buy Steven Tweed?

I believe he will be a good addition to your squad. He will probably improve your defence so don't worry.

Dundee are just reducing their squad just now and Steven obviously has become surplus to requirements.

Hi, just a quick email to say that I think your web page is great, I got the link from the Dundee FC web page and I read through it with interest.

My husband signed for Dundee on an "S" (school boys) form and arrived in Dundee in 1973 from Edinburgh with Gordon Strachan, the two of them shared digs together. We then emigrated to Australia in 1974 and now some 27 years later our son is playing at Dundee (Mark Robertson).

Mark is currently in Japan with the Socceroos and plays his first senior cap for Australia tonight - so as you can imagine, we are very proud parents.

Well, keep up the good work on your web page and we will continue to read it.

    Regards,

    Maureen,
I'm glad to know that even the Players families find my site of interest.

I must be doing something correct. :-)

I extend my Congratulations to Mark on what I hope is a long successful career in the Australian National side.

Probably not your fault Bob, but you are missing one of the best players to pull on a blue shirt, Bobby Ford, and I think he has been done in the local heroes pages.

And as a previous person wrote James Grady, should also be there. However I would like to thank you for your website and please feel free to visit mine,

    Steve,

I will be missing a lot of fans favourite players, but there have only been 36 Issues of the Local Heroes series and I have all 36 issues online.

Bobby may have been mentioned in a previous Issue, but doesn't have his own yet to my knowledge?

I'm still waiting for Erich Schaedler, so even I'm not satisfied yet. :-)

Good luck with your own site.

Just wanted to say that although the Dees made the top 6, Dunfermline seem to have gained all the credit instead of us. They thought when they beat us 1-0 at Dens that they had the top 6 spot in the bag. Well, to Jimmy and his troops, there's an old saying - "Payback is a bitch"

Firstly Congratulations to all connected to Dundee FC - you have done us proud this season. Reaching the target that Ivano promised us, is an achievement to be proud of, and at this moment we are just building for the future, to put in a challenge to the Old Firm in the coming years.

There have been so many talking points this season, Caballero's goals, Caniggia signing, Juan Sara Hat-trick in the Derby game, Gav Rae's call-up, Top 6 finish and much more, but my favourite has been the upturn in Dundee FC's fortunes and the promise of much, much more to come from the Bonetti's.

Anyway Bob - Groetjes Uit Nederland (greetings from the Dutch Dees) and keep up the good work on your excellent website. It's great to be a Dutch 'Dee, but I'd rather have been at Pittodrie cheering the team on.

    Hello Boab!

As the webmaster of your *Little piece of Scotland* site, I thought I'd drop you a line to let you know the details behind a project you might have heard of.

The Dundee FC CD is a collection of Old and New songs about the club, (NO x-rated or controversial material), put together by fans of the club and featuring some of the players currently with the club. (And with proceeds from the sales going towards the Dundee Youth Development Fund).

A website has been set up to promote the CD, and events are currently being put into place for signings etc when the cd is finally released. (The week beginning 23rd April).

It would be nice if you could, perhaps, report this on your site, and perhaps placed the link *to* the site as part of that report?

    The site is based at...http://trip.to/dundeecd

  • Click here for details of Purchase

  • Currently we have only two links to other Dundee sites, would you like yours added to the list?

If you reply would you quote the exact URL to your homepage and by what name you would like it to appear on the site?

    Thanks for your time!

Maybe Dundee are becoming like Scotland and we have to do everything the hard way, like lose a lead to 10 men.

No real criticism aimed at Ivano, but did he go to Largs with Craig Brown.

When Killie went to 10 men we should have freshened the team up as well, to get the benefit of new fresh legs against a weakened team. Unlike Craig Brown, let's hope Ivano has the sense to learn from this situation. Though in his defence we haven't had the benefit of this situation often, unlike our opposition have ;-)

    Hi Boab,

Having seen Rae put in ANOTHER sterling performance against the Killie, surely he must be in with a shout at a starting place against Poland, I have two valid points to back this up.

    1) Scott gemill is KAK
    2) Gavin like most of us plays better away from home ;)

`Missed chances` how that phrase has come home to roost. I must admit I`m relieved we`re still in with a chance of top 6 and that our next 2 games are away from Dens.

The playing surface is becoming a joke - whats going on Brian Robertson ?? I used to play in the same amateur team as him and he was always a perfectionist when it came to his work.

Its ironic that for years and years we`ve had the best playing surface in the country and finally when we get talent worth gracing the turf it starts to resemble the local tattie field.

In reply to Lindsay Taylor, the St Johnstone fan, like a lot of people you've got it all wrong. Dundee's foreign imports are not a jaded, over the hill mob. Of those playing regularly only Caniggia and Romano are over the age of 31, and Romano hasn't played many games.

If St Mirren did have a load of foreign players playing for them I don't remember any of them, so their public attraction must have been so small that they're forgotten. Who can say that of Caniggia, still playing with the wings of youth at 34, did you see any of his gut busting runs against Hearts on Wednesday? He still adds 500 - 1000 on to most team's home games just to see him play.

Carranza is 28, keeper Rocatti 26, Nemsadeze, captain of Georgia, 29, Sara 24, Caballero 22, Coyne the Australian 22, Artero 25 and Marocco 25.

We have just signed a £7 million pound rated 19 year old with competition from Ajax, Fulham and West Ham, and we got him for nothing, it was his choice to join Dundee. The guy's ! got 10 caps for Georgia already. 18 year old Marco Russo, an Italain wonderkid, will be amazing in a year or two.

I don't know where you got your facts from, but this is certainly not a team based on old men "Waiting for God" or anything else. It is built on youth and experience, a balance every team must have if they want to go places.

I may be the only Dees supporter who felt a bit sympathy for Gary Bollan. I have known Gary since he was a bairn and he's a hell of a nice guy. He actually trained my Under-10 team when he was aged 12 YEARS OLD, and he did it with a maturity and love of the game that left me no alternative than to admire him throughout his career, though he does profess a dislike of Dundee. (he was a United supporter for Christ sake). The last time I met him in a local cafe he was surrounded by St Johnstone players but still found time to come over and have a chat about the old days. (when he trained my team). Though he still had a go at my team, Dundee, he did it in a fun manner, and his raving comments about the standard of player Dundee have brought in earlier in the season, made me admire him all the more.

Don't be jealous, Lindsay, comparing us with St Mirren will not make these excellent players we have go away and there's many more coming in the 3 year plan the Bonetti's have set. By 2003 F.C. Dundee will be one of the main challengers to the Old Firm. I have no doubts about that, already one of Hibs top men is talking about leaving. I mean your team no malice, that's the great thing about the East Coast compared to the West. We can disagree but not fall out. I hope Saints improve and give us a better game next season, and you returned to this site to give your views, even in defeat, that deserves our respect. AWRABEST, SAINT JOHNSTONE.

    Sam,
I'd suggest you get in touch with one of the Supporters Clubs as they will have buses going. I'd imagine most will have spare seats on them if you give them a call. The Dundee Supporters Club at Thistle Street, or the Dee Club in Lochee are probably the best options.

That's one game I won't make, due to other commitments. Away midweek games are awkward for me to get to at the best of times. That's why I really hate re-arranged fixtures.

I won't even be near a radio on Wednesday. :-(

I hope you get to the game and really enjoy the result.

I'm glad you concede Dundee, were entertaining, certainly the second half at least. That's the point I was trying to put over regarding Dundee's season and why most of the Dundee fans are so encouraged this year of greater things to come.

We played far better against Celtic and Rangers and lost. Where as the Saints beat Rangers. Those things do make the difference when you look at points and League positions, but I still prefer the Football I'm watching this season, than that of the previous two when Dundee were Very Average, yet higher in the League?

I can't respond to your comparison to St. Mirren of a few seasons ago, as I can never remember them having any class players in their team, home grown or foreign in the past 20 years?

Dundee's dream of that top six place is still alive and you can pass our thanks onto Gary Bollan, if he ever calms down.

    Yours in Football.

    Hi Boab,
Well a final word from me on a couple of the points raised and Saturday's game.

I will concede that Dundee were entertaining in patches on Saturday and certainly alongside what we loosely term as a defence your attack looked fast and skilful. However, every goal Dundee scored was painstakingly set up by a Saints defender which must be a little concerning at least.

Saints played a style of football which has dogged our entire season i.e. reasonable for the initial 30 minutes followed by an inability to string more than two passess together. But if not for Bollan's final blunder it would have been a draw.

What next season brings we can only speculate and most Saints fans feel we have a major re-building job on our hands for with our midfield and defence posted missing most of this one. If Dundee do 'gel' next season then perhaps a higher league place may beckon.

I would finish on a couple of points of clarity. Few Saints fans could question the commitment of Geoff Brown to the club considering he saved us from a fate similar to Airdrie/Clydebank. Although certainly most of us would like to see bigger name signings from Geoff.

I would also mention our crowds have never been that great and frustratingly this seems to be regardless of how good our football is (this was true even in the glory Ormond days I believe). That is something Saints have to live with and budget for (which they have done successfully). Dundee's crowds may be on the increase - but not that much.

And finally I would remind you all of St Mirren a few seasons back who brought in ageing continental talent at great expense and fanfair - they are still reaping the reward of that policy.

Anyway - until next season (or maybe later this one if you don't make the top six which would be a miracle if we made it) ...

    Re-Saints Fan

In reply to the St Johnstone fan. If league position was all that was important there would be few Dundee fans still ranting about their team just now.

But, the truth is, your team don't play entertaining football and that, I'm afraid is why your crowds are so poor whilst ours are going up. I'd walk a million miles to see Caniggia and Co. play, they're great value for money, win or lose. The losing factor I put down to the time it has taken for them to adjust to the SPL style. By next season, watch out, this team will take some beating.

What you need is a Chairman or Director whose one love in life is St. Johnstone. We have that in the Marrs, Dees fans all their lives and putting their hard earned money into the club of their dreams.

I predict a 4-1 win for Dundee tomorrow. If it doesn't happen feel free to criticise me. But I don't believe you're team are in the same class. That's my biased opinion, right. Good luck.

    RE-guest book

    Lindsay

First I'd like to welcome you as the first visitor to my site, as a Football fan of another club wishing to express an opinion.

I agree with a lot of the things you have said, especially about your team, but differ on a few, but that's what makes football the game it is and why it takes up so much space in our newspapers.

Firstly I do believe St. Johnstone are an average club, as were Dundee. If you want to take that as an insult so be it, but it's my opinion and I stick to it. I have watched Dundee v St. Johnstone games over the years as you probably have too and lets be honest, they have not been classics. Apart from one particularly disastrous game at Mc Diarmid under Cowboy McCormack which ended slightly heavily in your favour.

Yes the Saints sit above Dundee presently by one point, by your own admission you are playing abysmally, that's where the difference between our teams starts. Dundee may not have been winning games as consistently as their play merits, but they have entertained the fans. One example and I'll use one you will probably be able to relate to. The Dundee Saints game at Dens where you equalised in the last minute. Yes it was a point to the Saints, but definitely 2 points dropped by Dundee on the play, but for some inspirational goal keeping from your keeper you would have got nothing from that game, but that's football.

This isn't the odd isolated occasion this has happened to Dundee this season, however it is a new team that are all learning to live in a new country and play as a team. The bottom line is they will finally gel and that's what every Dundee fan is waiting for, as we can show brilliance in flashes during games, but aren't finishing the opposition off unfortunately. Dundee too have not been able to field a stable team for one reason or another all season.

The League position may be crap, but the entertainment level for 90% of this season certainly hasn't been, if you're a Dundee fan.

I hope you will be able to assess what I mean on Saturday, if you watch the game as a Football fan rather than that of your Manager, who only appears to see his own team play.

As for statistics, you can make them what you want. Only 4 teams have scored more goals than Dundee this season and only 3 have conceded less. Dundee were the only Club last year to make an operating profit. Who says they can't do that again? It's no secret, Dundee have said they will have to sell one player a year to keep the others here. They have already sold Rab Douglas for £1.2 Million this year.

I'm sure that makes up quite a hefty portion of the wage bill. Can you honestly say you wouldn't want to see Claudio Caniggia play for the Saints? If selling a goalkeeper to keep players of his ability at Dens is what we have to do. I'm all for it. Just like when the Saints signed Balatacha he was a revelation to Scottish football at the time.

I hope you enjoy the game tomorrow also, but not the result. One last thing, average team accounts for at least 8 teams in the SPL this season in my opinion, so don't take it personally.

    Dear Boab,

I read with interest your assessment that it was about time Dundee gave an 'average' team a showing up on Saturday.

From that I take it the team I support, Saints, are the 'average' team in question.

Forgive me for pointing out an age old football quote - the league table does not lie. And unless I am mistaken Saints sit a point above Dundee at present.

The irony of this is not the fact Saints are currently above yourselves. Or even that if Dundee do get a comfortable victory on Saturday (which on Saints current form and injury list would not be surprising) the gap would be a dizzying two point in your favour.

No - the irony is that by any Saints fans admission we have had a much poorer than average season. In fact our season has been abysmal. We are horrendously inconsistent, leak goals badly and have went out of both cups to shocking results.

So let's keep things in perspective when it comes to 'average'. Certainly Dundee have had an above average amount of press coverage. And there is no doubt the wage bill and debt of the club will be above average.

But when it comes to results on the pitch you've had exactly the same season as us - crap (only we haven't been beaten by either of the bottom two - or yourselves - yet).

Anyway - enjoy the game ...
