er, anybody know any gossip? Or got any pictures? Come on, don't feel shy!
Like, have you heard the Marcia has been sold to the lady behind the curtains?
What was that blue mini doing on a garden wall on Keble Park South a few weeks ago?
And what has happened to the old St Andrew's Church restoration site?
First, a spectacular event in aid of the Village Panto (Jack & the Beanstalk, December 8-11th) will be the
70s NIGHT! at the Bishopthorpe Roxy
featuring "Glad to be Glam" on November 13th. You don't know where the Roxy is? Get with it! And dig out your flares and purple shirts with rounded collars!
The Millennium plans are going well. The glass tumblers and coffee-mugs with their distinctive village Millennium crest are going fast (so order your's now). And the Bishopthorpe 2000 Calendar will be out on sale ANY DAY NOW. It'll be priced at under £4.75, it will look fantastic, and it will be available from Lister's, Riley's the chemist, the Ebor, the Post office, or from Lance Dunn via order forms . You can see a sample calendar at those places and at the library and the Co-op. More details of the calendar (including previews on this site) will appear soon.
Meanwhile the Pageant is gathering shape: over 200 replies have come in so far. Many (about 150) people came to the meeting at the Junior School in September to hear what's going to happen, and went away enthused. There'll be a similar meeting in Acaster Malbis in November. And an e-mail list has been set up for the pageant - for details, ask in the comment box below.
A really attractive Christmas card featuring a painting of the Palace gatehouse by the late Peter Marshall is also on sale in aid of the village millennium fund. It's available from the same sources.
Paul Danon of London W5 says: "I think Andrew Dunn is a great geezer, even though he's from the south". [17/7/99]
(Perhaps that should be in "gossip". Discuss.)
Goyle Weir of London N4 (who may be Romy's brother) asks [23/8/99] "was Paul Danon a friend of yours before he wrote that?"
Martin Scott of Bishopthorpe thinks this site is "impressive" but asks for something on Bishopthorpe United. Give us the info, Martin!
And LOUISA SMITH of Skerton, Lancaster, writes "Hello Mum!" but continues:
"Cracking to see Bish finally get its own web space... More pictures, please, to combat homesickness! I would well recommend Bishopthorpe as am excellent place to live and this site certainly does it justice. Keep up the good work." [25/9/99]
Let's not be formal about this. Enter your details (you don't have to, though a name and location (even a telephone number or e-mail address if you'd like us to respond) would be very useful, and we categorically declare that no details will be passed to anybody else). Then enter any news, gossip or comments about this site in the 'comments' box. If it's suitable it'll be posted. We'll probably put it up even if it's actionable. Go for it! Note - you'll probably get an error message after you click SUBMIT. IGNORE IT - the thing works, I promise. Just press 'Back' or whatever to carry on. The info you submit reaches me. I don't know why the message appears, but I'm working on it. |
