BTEC National Diploma in Media Studies

at

St Joseph's Campus, Woolwich Road, Abbey Wood, London SE2 OAR.

The St Joseph's campus is just one of three related to Bexley College. It's situated just a couple of miles down the road from the main campus at Tower road. St. Joseph's campus has a lot to offer, it has a very friendly and relaxed atmosphere. It's surrounded by peaceful woods and a quiet neighbourhood.

The Course

It's a two year, 18 hours per week, 36 weeks per year course. Entry qualifications are a minimum of four GCSEs at grade C or equivalent. It will allow you to persue your interest in the Media Industry or progress to Higher Education. The course is absolutely free.

If you show an interest in films, radio, journalism, photography, sound engineering, camera operating or public relations then this is the course for you.

 

 

The Subject Units

Media Workshop

This is one of the most practical parts of the course. It includes the creating of your own vox pox/interview, radio station, internet webpage and video production.

Writing for Film and TV

A look into the production side of film and TV. This unit includes the production of your own soap opera, cop show, news broadcasting and others.

Working Practices

This unit mainly looks into the consumers role in the media, how audiences are attracted to certain aspects of the media and why?

Photography

Another practical part in the course. You will be taught how to handle a professional photographic camera and then put it to use. The developing process will also be taught to you. Work in this unit will include designing and producing CD art work, photo journalism and fashion photograpy.

Media in Context

A brief look into media law. This unit will give you a good background into the do's and don't's of the media industry. It will also familiarise you with the language used in the media world.

Moving Images

A unit that can be quite practical. It concerntrates closely on the film industry and gives you the opportunity to get behind the camera and create your own film.

Print Editing

A professional journalist gives you a look into the world of journalism, concerntrating on hard news, feature writing, interviewing skills etc.

I.T.

Gives the students a chance to become familar with the computer system and get up to date with their work.
