Sunderland
Mk III , RAF
The Short Sunderland was used in
the Berlin Airlift 1948/49. At some times there were ten flying boats
on their way between Hamburg and Berlin, where they landed on the river
Havel and were unloaded by boat. Among other things they transported salt,
which could not be brought with normal airplanes, which were suspectible
to corrision. These flying boats were resistant to saltwater, they therefore
had no problems with rust.
