Beating Gym leaders...
So those tougher fights getting you down eh ? well never fear cause here is all you need to know about gym trainers, and how to beat them.
Brock : Brock is the first trainer you come up against he uses powerfull rock element pokemon he has two of them, : Geodude , and Onix the huge rock snake that is at the top of the page. Rock pokemon are weak against water but sadly you don't have any unless you chose squirtle at the start of the game and if your playing yellow version you definately will not have any water pokemon. we have to do our best with what we have which is probably something like this
Blue / Red version : Pidgey or Pidgeoto , Charmander , squirtle or Bulbasaur , Pikachu , Butterfree, Beedrill, Rattata ,
yellow : pikachu , rattata , pidgeotto, Butterfree and possibly anything else you run into
you need to raise your pokemon a little before battling brock as a Butterfree will help far more than catterpie besides its only a few levels also try to get all pokemon to at least level 10 before fighting brock
A good technique againt Brock is with Pidgeotto although his attacks will be quite weak against rock pokemon his sand attack will stop a lot of their powefull attacks hitting giving you a fighting chance. Pikachu's electrical attacks do little against rock pokemon but he might just help you scrape through, as for the others it depends on which attacks you have use your knowledge of elements to defeat brock but if that fails just keep on tapping away at his pokemon until they faint. If you chose sqirtle at the start his water gun or bubble attack will take Brocks pokemon down fast the same goes foe Bulbasaurs vine whip otherwise get Butterfree and make sure it learns it's Confusuion attack with this you should not loose.
Types to use : Water, Grass , Bug.
Types to avoid : Fire , Normal but if thats all you have it will have to do.
Brock's Pokemon : Geodude Level 14 , Onix Level 12
Misty : Water Pokemon is this trainers chosen type this is bad news for charmander but good news for Bulbasaur you should have more pokemon at your disposal by now but if you need a plant to help defeat Misty then just head north out of the city after beating the trainers on the way up head to the left then down into the grassy area and you can catch a Bellsprout. with this at your side along with a powerful pikachu perhaps , then you should not have too many problems with misty also depending on which version you are playing you may have an Oddish instead of a Bellsprout, if you do he is just as effective.
Misty's Pokemon : Staryu Level 18 , Starmie Level 21
Types to use : Grass , Electric
Types to avoid : Fire , Rock
Lt.Surge : Electrical pokemon all round here don't waste your time with Pikachu or Squirtle here as Pikachu's attacks wont be effective and Water pokemon are weak against electric pokemon with this one be smart , hopefully you should have Sandshrew now and maybe a Diglett give Sandshrew the Dig Tm you got from team rocket in that guys back garden or wait for diglett to learn DIG at level 19 and he shouldn't be any problem as Sandshrew is immune to electrical attacks just watch out for non elemental ones like Bodyslam if Raichu is a higher level than you then just fill the rest of your team up with some of your favourites and beat Lt.surge with little trouble.
Types to use : Grass , Ground , Rock , Fire,
Types to aviod : Water , Flying , Electric
Lt. Surge's Pokemon : Voltorb Level 21 , Pikachu Level 18 , Raichu Level 24

Erika : This time it's plant pokemon to battle against. First stock up on the old anti poison items from the pokemon mart to cure your pokemon when they get hit with poison powder. If you have Charmander or by now probably Charmeleon you shouldn't have too many troubles as plant types are weak against fire but strong against water pokemon so avoid them. If you don't have a Fire pokemon you should go for any Psychic pokemon like Drowsee that you may have grass pokemon often have poison as a second type which is really weak against psychic attacks Butterfree could help you out with its confusion attack again here. As well as sandslash if you don't have fire types just pull out your strongest pokemon but avoid rocks as I've found that one vine whip attack can usually take down a geodude even a few levels higher in one hit. Old pidgeotto isn't a bad bet either or any other flying pokemon as their attacks will be super effective.
Types to use : Fire , Psychic, Flying, Ice
Types to avoid : Water , Grass , Ground
Erika's Pokemon : Victreebell Level 29, Tangela Level 24, Vileplume Level 29
Sabrina : If you want the marsh badge you will have to beat Sabrina and her Psychic Pokemon this one isn't too difficult just go for your toughest pokemon to take em dowm quickly also if you want to try being clever try out Drowzee or a Gastly and try matching their psychic powers against her Kadabra's Drowzee can learn Dream eater through a TM this will only work while the enemy is sleeping but is powerfull against a lot of Pokemon it will prove very useful against some of the ghost pokemon trainers arround in the Gym with her it is also useful against Sabrina. Now your pokemon are of higher levels and you have had them a while you can use your knowledge of them to judge how they will do against Sabrina or if you have a Kadabra you could use your knowledge of his attacks to know which pokemon they are weakest against and choose them for the battle.
Sabrina's Pokemon : Kadabra Level 38, Mr.Mime Level 37, Venomoth Level 38
Koga : Koga uses poison type pokemon which have few elemental weaknesses so just pull out your toughest pokemon and beat the crap out of them don't worry about your pokemon becoming too powerfull and starting to ignore your orders as once you beat koga Pokemon up to level 70 will obey you. Once again stock up on the old poison cure. If you wanted to go for a particular element I would say give a fire pokemon a go as a lot of Pokemon are weak against fire. Another good scheme would be to use Drowzee/Hypno to hypnotize and eat the dreams of your opponent this is good as while pokemon are sleeping they cannot attack. A top tip to save items is if you get poisoned with Drowzee/Hypno hypnotize the enemy before using poison cure just in case the enemy should use a poison attack again just after you cure yourself. Also dont forget one of the weaknesses of poison pokemon is Psychic use this to your advantage
Koga's Pokemon : Koffing Level 37, Muk Level 39, Koffing Level 37, Weezing Level 43
Blaine : Ok it's fire pokemon in this gym so naturally it's sensible to go for water type pokemon so take a few of your toughest water pokemon with you into the gym try perhaps Gyrados, Lapras ect but hopefully your favourite pokemon should be strong enough to defeat his pokemon anyway regardless of type unless it's something like a plant, for example I was able to defeat all of his pokemon using only my charizard's slash attack due to it's extremely high level (aproaching the obedience limit of 70 ) with this knowledge you should be able to put out Blaines flame with relative ease and then the volcano badge is yours.
Blaine's Pokemon : Growlith Level 42, Ponyta Level 40, Rapidash Level 42, Arcanine Level 47
Giovanni : Finally the last Gym leader and also the team rocket boss, he uses ground rock and the odd poison pokemon poweful fire pokemon can beat most of his pokemon however defeating Rhyhorn and Rhydon is a real uphill struggle plant and water pokemon however can rip his pokemon to pieces, Gyrados' or Blastoise hydro pump attack is a good bet for killing his pokemon, If you want to use any of the two legenday birds you should have collected use Arcticuno as Zapdos' electric attacks will cause little or no damage. Be sure you are totally ready for this fight and also be sure you are on full health because Giovanni has more pokemon than all of the other gym leaders he has 5 and they are all strong. When it comes to Nidoking and Nidoqueen use psychic pokemon to take em out easily
Giovanni's Pokemon : Rhyhorn Level 45, Dugtrio Level 42, Nidoqueen Level 44, Nidoking Level 45, Rhydon Level 50
Now you can control all pokemon in the world go as far as indigo plateau so you can fly there in future and go for the elite four take your favourite and strongest pokemon and get ready for a tough battle after you beat the elite four you can evolve capture and trade your way to all 150 pokemon once you beat the elite 4 you can enter the forbidden dungeon where Mewtwo awaits.
The Elite 4 are 4 of the strongest pokemon trainers in the world and you have to beat them all in one go so take a varied range of pokemon types and your strongest pokemon use the following information to choose your team and also bear in mind that after you beat the elite 4 you must continue to defeat your rival too so be sure you have plenty of revive and cures and potions to revitalise tired pokemon between battles.
Lorelei is the first up she uses water/ice pokemon so pull out someone who can stand their attacks first she has 5 pokemon and here they are.
Dewgong Level 54, Cloyster Level 53, Slobro Level 54, Jynx Level 56, Lapras Level 56
Then you have to continue to Bruno he uses Ground/Fighting pokemon he also has 5 pokemon he is like a combination of Brock and the master of the fighting dojo he has the following pokemon
Onix Level 53, Hitmonchan Level 55, Hitmonlee Level 55, Onix Level 56, Machamp Level 58
Now you must move on to agatha this old biddy uses ghost and poison pokemon so you will have to use a psychic pokemon such as hypno, a ghost pokemon or one of the Abra family it must at least be a kadabra
It's another 5 pokemon job so be ready to use health items before the battle here is the list of her pokemon :
Gengar Level 56, Golbat Level 56, Haunter Level 55, Arbok Level 58, Gengar Level 60
The final member of the elite 4 is Lance he uses Dragon type Pokemon so prepare for a hard battle it's yet another 5 pokemon job so be careful, I was able to defeat this guy with just Charizard but then again he was level 90 Best bet is to use either an electric or grass for gyrados a water pokemon like Blastoise or a Grass pokemon like Venusaur for aerodactyl and if you have one an ince pokemon like Arcticuno,Jynx or Dewgong for the others as Dragon pokemons one weakness is ICE, here is a list of his pokemon :
Gyrados Level 50, Dragonair Level 56, Dragonair Level 56, Aerodactyl Level 60, Dragonite Level 62.
and just when you are thinking YES I've done it you find out that your rival has beat you to it and you have to beat him just imagine him much more difficult than before and having all your pokemon half dead so for once he stands a chance against you here are his pokemon :
Pidgeot Level 61, Alakazam Lavel 59, Rhydon Level 61 the last 3 pokemon depend on who you chose at the start of the game.
If you chose Charmander : Arcanine Level 61, Exeggutor Level 63, Blastoise Level 65
If you chose Squirtle : Gyrados Level 61, Arcanine Level 63, Venusaur Level 65
If you chose Bulbasaur : Exeggutor Level 63, Gyrados Level 61, Charizard Level 65
Pokemon Gold/Silver Gym Leaders.
Falkner : This is the first Gym leader that you'll meet in this pokemon adventure he inherited this gym from his father and has only a few pokemon so it shouln't be too tough as long as you have your full group of six pokemon all aroun level 10 or above if possible the only pokemon to avoid are bug pokemon like Caterpie , Metapod , Spinarak, Weedle , Kakuna , Beedrill or Ledyba Butterfree isnt so bad as its confusion attack can be useful. Also avoid grass pokemon such as Bellsprout. As your starting pokemon will probably be your strongest take it with you but be aware that Chicorita is weak agaist flying attacks the best bet is to trade a Bellsprout for an Onix in Violet city and also to catch a geodude and use that aswel as rock pokemon are good against flying pokemon and if you can catch a Gastly from Bellsprout tower you shouldnt have many problems. To fill up your team just use a few of the normal or flying type pokemon that you have trained up a bit that way if it cames down to all the others you have being knocked out their tackle attacks might just finish the job. If you lose train your pokemon up a few more levels and then try again.
Pokemon to watch out for : Pidgeotto is Falkners top pokemon
Attacks to watch out for : Mud slap
Andy T's best bet :
1. Your starting pokemon
2. Gastly
3. Geodude
4. Onix
5. Sentret
6. Pidgey
Bugsy : On to the next Gym we find this Bug pokemon trainer once again as long as you have been training your pokemon well you should be able to take him down if you chose Cyndaquil to start with it should now have evolved to Quilava you should not have any problems at all once again Chicorita or perhaps Bayleef will be at a disadvantage but should be able to cope if you have trained it enough Totodile or Croconaw should be able to handle things pretty well to this trainers toughest pokemon is Scyther it's fury cutter attack get more powerful every time it uses also your flying pokemon such as Hoothoot Spearow or Pidgey and their attacks such as peck ,and gust should take out any bug pokemon pretty quickly aswel.
Pokemon to watch out for : Scyther
Attacks to watch out for : Fury Cutter , it just keeps getting stronger
Best Bet : 1. starting pokemon 2 Spearow 3 Pidgey/Pidgeotto 4. Gastly 5.Geodude 6. Anything will do
Whitney : This leader uses Normal type pokemon so this is the place where gastly or perhaps if you've been training it a lot Haunter or even Gengar will really be useful its ghost powers will make it practically invincible as normal attacks can't hurt it also rock pokemon will be useful here as normal attacks aren't very effective against them other than that just use your favourites as long as they are well leveled up you wont have any problems here. Watch out for miltank itas defence is high its rollout attack is a real pain as it seems to knock out pokemon quickly at vital times and its milk drink gives it loads of life just at the time you think you have it finally beaten
Pokemon to watch out for : Miltank
Attacks to watch out for : Rollout , Milk drink
Best bet : 1.Starting pokemon 2. Gastly/Haunter/Gengar 3.Geodude 4.Onix 5+6 Strong Pokemon.
Morty : Looks like it's Ghost pokemon on the cards here so forget using any phiscal attacks you have to use special attack to even hurt ghost pokemon so be smart when you choose your attacks wisely before you use them the main type disadvantage of ghost pokemon is ground so if you have a well trained ground pokemon such as Dugtrio or Sandslash or a rock pokemon with ground attacks will do well against them try using attacks like Earthquake or Dig another thing is that although ghost pokemon are supposed to be strong against psychic pokemon their second element (Poison) isnt so if you have any psychic pokemon use them here to take Mortys team apart with ease if your lacking in psychic pokemon such as hypno or mewtwo or mew if youve been trading from red and blue use pokemon like Butterfree that have psychic attacks such as Confusion.
Pokemon to watch out for : Gengar its curse is a real pain
Attacks to watch out for : Curse and Shadow Ball
Chuck : Fighting
Jasmine : Steel Steelix Mineral badge
Pryce : Ice
Clair : Dragon Kingdra lances sister
